The main island of Taiwan, lying just over 100 miles from the coast of Southeast China, has been home to various indigenous tribes for centuries. Largely undiscovered, I was intrigued to explore the country on two wheels. This country is inhabited by almost 24 million people and has two-thirds of its landmass covered by mountains. My journey starts in Chiayi, the gateway to Taiwan’s mighty central mountain ranges, before embarking on a 5-day journey to some of the highest roads in the country at an altitude of 3000m. A mix of Chinese, Japanese and indigenous cultural influences, Taiwan offers a land of mountains, tranquil forests and a diverse cultural experience.

ABOUT ME:
In 2013, I started my solo travel journey, leaving Indonesia in 2016 to become a full-time traveller and RUclips creator. My background in International Relations has fueled a profound interest in exploring different countries. My content focuses on exploring different cultures through the lens of a solo female traveller, aiming to capture real-life interactions and experiences.
My travels kicked off with a five-month trip across Asia, after which I moved to China in January 2017 to work as an English teacher-my first time living abroad. I left China in 2018 to fully commit to creating videos on RUclips, where I share my travels and the cultures I encounter.
Living nomadically since 2016, I settled in England in early 2022 after marrying my British husband, David. Now based in the UK, I continue to travel and share my adventures on RUclips.

Thank you! It was okay actually as it was broken down into 2 days of riding 😊
Welcome to Taiwan
Thank you so much for your kind comment 😊
Hi, thanks for sharing from Taiwan! I had a similar experience a few years ago riding along the Taiwan No. 3 north-south highway. After Jiayi, I found myself the only person traveling after nightfall on a seemingly endless stretch of winding mountain roads without streetlights and hardly any sign of life. It was scary. So even a few dozen kilometers of mountainous roads in Taiwan can often take much longer to complete than if you're riding along the coast. Use plenty of time. Otherwise one would at least miss much of the views that a ride in the mountains is supposed to offer. Glad you were safe.
Taiwan is definitely on my bucket list. I truly admire how they have stood up against china and become a technology hub. Can't wait for next parts of your journey.
Thank you so much for watching, Keen! I agree that Taiwan as a country is very resilient. You can watch the other 2 videos here:

My #1 place to be! Can't think of anything as amazing as TAIWAN 😍
Thanks so much for watching!
Hi Syifa, nice to see you exploring on a scooter again. I found your channel, when you were scootering through Serbia - I think it was around Easter some years ago. And we're approaching Easter again... I'm interested in seeing a bit of Taiwan, especially, since I recently finished producing a CD of a group from there, who base their music on the ancient indigenous culture and traditions there. It's funny, how I come to explore various countries through their traditional music, and then I get to see a bit of these countries through your travels and adventures. Looking forward to more from Taiwan.
Awww Diz! Yes riding a scooter in Serbia was excellent. Loved creating that travel series. I am so glad to hear that you are able to travel to countries through music and I am able to showcase it to you through these visuals. Happy Easter 🐣 and hope you’ll eat bunch of chocolate easter eggs for me 😂
@@SyifaAdriana Thanks! Happy Easter to you and Dave!
Hello Syifa thank you again for showing the place in Taiwan. 😊
It feels so beautiful when the road passes through hills, villages, and mountain roads🦉💕
Ahhhh thank you so much! There’s a different sense of freedom from riding a bike that you just dont get from anything else. I am sure you understand it too. Thank you!! ☺️
You will be safe and Warm in Taiwan. I wish you experience happy the beauty of Taiwan.
You are filled with adventurous spirit, riding a motorcycle alone in the mountains of Taiwan, truly daring. Wishing you happiness
Yes welcome to Taiwan ❤❤, I was waiting for this upload ❤
You are not crazy but interestingly crazy. Be careful riding the narrow hilly roads and stay safe. Would never imagine going alone on such a long ride but you are one daring solo rider.
Peter 😂 I’ll take your comment as a compliment 😊 I think I like to dream of things that challenge my innermost self and see how far I can go with that! Thanks a lot for watching.
Awww I wish I could give you a hug seeing you exhausted and scared when you arrived in the accommodation after a long ride 🫂❤️
Absolutely!
You did a really good job! Welcome to Taiwan!🇹🇼
Awww thank you so much for watching!

I just found your channel and I am planning my first motorbike trip around Taiwan. This is a great preparation of the expectation. Thank you for your video. Will be watching more.
you are really so brave and crazy^^!! as a Taiwanese, i would not drive on the mountain road after sunset. Be safe and take care.
Taiwan is beautiful and worth a visit
Planning to visit Taiwan 🇹🇼 ❤
Thanks so much for watching!
Enjoy your trip, taiwan’s scenery is beautiful
You are so brave to do this! I wish I could learn to ride a motorbike someday 😅
Aw thanks a lot, lovely! I think we both are brave enough to solo travel in the first place 🧡 I am lucky that I was taught to ride at such young age and grew up in a country where traffic jams were so hectic 😂 It gives me so much confidence to ride elsewhere. I am sure it’s never too late to learn how to ride ❤
Taiwan's mountain roads are prone to fog and rain due to altitude effects. Be careful to keep waterproof and warm. Welcome to taiwan
Quite unusual..not many vloggers have showcased Taiwan..the view looks similar to Darjeeling and Sikkim hills..thank you for sharing
It's so shocking to see how similar the rural roads and their vibes are to that of Indonesia. Literally feels like home watching this. Thank you for your inspiring experience, Syifa.
Wow your journy made me fall in love with this country,it's comfortable, safe, calm, clean, green.basicly i fell in love
Yes, Taiwan is beautiful country and the beautiful people and beautiful anythin Taiwan is Iindependent
it's not😂
Taiwan is not a country😂
@@mikeyL-os5cf hi~China little pink CNM and NMSL 😝🤣🤣🤣
China's pink pig has made Taiwan, an island country, famous.

Pink people made in China put the island nation of Taiwan on the map.
Wonderful point of view. Can’t wait to watch the next episode!
I have been to Bandung several times for work, and the forests and mountains in Indonesia are also very impressive.
Welcome to Taiwan.
😊🇹🇼❤️
Welcome to Taiwan
I subscribed to this channel 👍
Thank you for taking us to so many amazing places which are so far off the beaten track. You are a very courageous young woman to tackle so many of these lonely places alone. Take care, and good luck!
Thanks a lot David! That is so very kind of you 😊 It gives me such satisfaction to read comments like yours!
If you're originally from Indonesia many inhabitants in Chayi mountainous areas ( Jou people )and around Sunmoon lake (Sau people )are likely your brothers and sisters because both of them are Austronesian indigenous people and have inhabited there since time immemorial. For many experts Taiwan is considered the cradleland of Austronesian people who spread across the pacific from Taiwan to Maori in New Zealand including Indonesian Archipelago.
I do not know what brought me here to your channel. 1st time viewing one of your videos. I had no idea how rural parts of Taiwan is. You are lovely and like your calm way. Happy Trails
Driving speed on high mountains will be affected by road conditions, gradient and gasoline conversion efficiency. If you want to enjoy the scenery and take photos at the same time, it is recommended that (1) the daily travel distance should not exceed 80 kilometers. (2) If the first scenic spot in the morning is more than 30 kilometers away, you can start at 7 a.m. (3) On roads above 2,000 meters above sea level, 30 minutes must be reserved for each trip interval due to low gasoline conversion efficiency. There are many hot springs in the central mountainous area. You can plan in advance for your next trip so that a soak in the hot springs can relieve fatigue.
Indeed and thanks for your comment! I left very late even according to my standard as I was too anxious to start this journey. I spent the entire morning doubting myself and tried to find courage within me to embark on this solo riding adventure. Thanks for watching!
you are daughter of this world, ❤...we realy love your video😊❤
Service at the petrol station! Wow! Great video again. Love how you just totally go for it!
Thank you, Aubrey! I would be lying if I said that I wasn't nervous. I definitely was therefore I left so late! It’s often taking the first step that’s the hardest and the rest will follow along ☺Your comment is such a reminder that kind service I received at the petrol station is worth being highlighted 🙏

Hello mem I am your big fan since from 2020 when u visit our India arunachal pradesh in rengging village.lots of love from arunachal pradesh ❤
enjoy your stay in Taiwan
Welcome to taiwan, be safe and I sincerely recommend that you stay as long as you can ❤❤❤
I think it is a pity that the first day of the trip passed through Alishan and Yushan National Park and drove at night. Because the scenery along this stretch will make you feel in awe of nature and mountains.
MMBCU is a very nice motorcycle, enjoy your trip!
Scooter, not motorcycle.
Wow... Terima kasih syifa... Hati2 di jalan
I like the pace of this video. Nice and easy 😀
Another great video. I live in Zhuhai, Guangdong, not that far from Taiwan. I may visit there someday. Taiwan is famous for many things. I think when it comes to food, their tofu stands out. Not sure if you've heard of this, but according to Wikipedia, the Polynesian people have originally come from Taiwan between 3,000 and 1,000BCE. This is pretty incredible.
The scooter you rode is not kymco, it is sym which also made in Taiwan, its a good scooter and very popular.
Tiwan is a beautiful country enjoy it ❤❤❤
Hello, very interesting and beautiful impressions. Best regards 😊👍🏻
Awesome Vlog & Hard Traveller With Scooter ❤❤❤
7:00 I know what you mean. I have been there before driving down from Alishan for the first time and at night. Absolute nightmare, especially when buses are coming up and take the whole curve to turn and get you unaware. Thank you for sharing your experience.
2/3 of Taiwan is made up of mountains, with more than 200 peaks over 3,000 meters high, rather than a flat forest island. It's larger than what you see on the map because it's a three-dimensional island.
Yes indeed! I was aware of the fact that Taiwan is very mountainous. I have watched a lot of documentaries about mountains in Taiwan ☺️ However I wasnt aware of the fact that I had booked an accommodation just outside of Yushan national park, which is a different national park than Alishan altogether 😂 Thanks a lot for watching
@@SyifaAdriana Enjoy your Taiwan adventure!💪💪💪
beautiful country
I love your voice, music, and video.
Went to Sun Moon Lake w/my friend. She was from Taichung, so it was a day trip. Very nice.👍
Be careful and have a nice trip ^^
Hello Syifa Adriana. Very interesting video. 🌹🍫
Such a beautiful Indonesia girl❤
Great video. I managed to hire a car while I was there. Just needed my Australian and an international license. Had my first accident in 30 years there, thanks to a scooter and a speeding Lexus AWD.
❤❤❤good luck with your trip ❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing ❤, I have subscribed the channel. 🎉
1.40 memories is so adorable 🥰.
Take care guys
enjoy
Salut... Sehat selalu mbak
Tetap samangat dan tetap hati hati
Salam dari Jakarta
Be careful to ride scooter especially on the mountain road and enjoy your trip through Taiwan. I also enjoy your film very much.
Have a nice trip and sweet dreams
You'r so good, Wellcome to Taiwan, Have you a nice jurny.
Thanks for the 4K!!!
You are so welcome 😊
Beau travail ma chère. MERCI !!!
Did you know that if you stretched Taiwan's east side and "flatted" down the mountains, Taiwan would double in size and stretch way Eastwards?
Safe ride,enjoy the tour!❤😂
Thanks so much for your generous super thanks 😊
