In about 1986 I drove across the road bridge next to it, so we got a nice view. It got refurbished years later and a new coating was put over it that eliminated the need to be repainted as often as it had been.
There is no other bridge like that in the world. I will never forget seeing that bridge while on a bus crossing the bridge next to it for a day trip to St. Andrews.
Thank you for sharing your amazing cruise. You really bring to life your adventures plus you explain the history and facts .
That bridge looked modern to me. I would never have guessed that it was that old!
It is cared for meticulously, they even developed a special paint that would protect the metal work and resist fading and of course the humid air above the water. Up until about 10-15 years ago, one part of the bridge was always surrounded in scaffolding as they painted it. No sooner did they finish, they had to start again on the other end. Now the paint is good for 20 years or more before it needs to be re-applied. Of course, it is continuously inspected by engineers.
Tony, I’m sure that you came away impressed with Scotland and Edinburgh. We’ve been to Scotland multiple times but you just got a small glimpse of how unbelievable Scotland is. The Scottish Highlands are beautiful heading north from Edinburgh and worthy of a land vacation on its own. As has already been noted, there are many, many places in Scotland that are truly iconic destinations. On one of our trips we actually were able to get into Balmoral Castle as it was being readied for the Queen’s arrival a few weeks later. So, plan to go back for a more thorough exploration of that wonderful part of the world.
That looks like a long ass tender ride! Danggg!!!!
I’m with you Bonnie. I never would have guess it was 130 yrs old either
This was great thank you for sharing i have been enjoy everything you have shared from this long April adventure
OMG - I LOVE that bridge - I couldn't wait to see it when we went to Scotland - I could have stood all day and looked at it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this Tony! I’m sure I will never get to experience this ride. The views of that bridge was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this experience.
I did this tender in 2019 and it was a highlight of the whole cruise. Well that and ah-mah-zing Edinburgh. That city stole my heart. ❤
Amazing structure for its time and endurance. Thank you for showing us this. Scotland is on our bucket list and this tour should be included.
A much longer ride than I thought. Thanks for sharing. 💯
When we were (June 2019) we were delayed in leaving the ship because of weather conditions. Coming back the dock was mostly underwater, but I mostly remember how cold and rainy it was. Edenborough was spectacular.
That is why I cruise Holland most of the time… Very educational and historic sites around the World🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
This is so interesting! Thanks, Tony. I learned some cool stuff today! I liked how you showed the footage and just popped in intermittently with tidbits/ narration. Immersive indeed! 👍👍
Thank you for bringing us back to this exquisite bridge. We had fog in 2015 when we tendered to Queensferry bound for Edinburgh castle. Excellent excursion. Can't wait to see your footage of this amazing castle.
Wow, what an awesome view of the bridge and the Firth of forth😊
I loved this ride! Felt like I was there!
Pretty cool stuff! Thanks for sharing, Tony!!
The bridge reminds me of a huge Erector Set (vintage toy before Legos). This bridge is beautiful. Thank you for sharing Tony! Have a safe trip home.
Greatest place in the entire world! Hope you enjoyed it.
I like that they have educational narration as it sails. That's pretty cool.
Very cool, Tony. I love excursions like this, sit, watch & learn!
Great video Tony. Looks like youre having fun!
We just took this tender ride last August so you brought back wonderful memories with this video. Loving following your trip.
Thank you Tony for the amazing history as you navigate past the 1882 Cantilever Bridge. As George and I tend to explore other towns with similar bridges, the web-page of "History of Bridges" has additional information. This Scottish design of a Cantilever Bridge inspired the construction Engineers of Dubai to build one very similar.
Hey Tony. We were standing on the Fife side watching the ship leave Edinburgh and had no idea you were on it! Hope you enjoyed our beautiful homeland. Cold yes (not always, we do get some sunshine too), but full of character .
Thanks for sharing your experience. Scotland and England are our next land tour we have booked.
Spectacular footage and it’s wonderful to hear the history! Thank you, Tony!
Very nice! Scotland has also so many beautiful parts. I went to Loch Lomond once with my mother and we both loved it.
The people are so nice and welcoming there and it has a really special atmosphere.
Happy Saturday Tony.
That was very cool that you got to do a different tender to the pier. 👍
And I would have never guessed that the bridge was that old. It looks very new to me. I'm going to go and look up some more of that bridge. I'd really like to see it closer up than you showed us.
Safe travels home to Jenny!!!! 😃
I loved this video and your perfectly timed and just right narration. I felt like I was right there!
Thank you, Mr. World Traveler!
This was amazing!!! Thank you Tony! 😊
My homeland ❤ ( was my home town ) i pleased to hear you enjoyed your self. In Scotland ❤ If you ever get the chance again to visit
You must go to the Highlands you would love the scenery there too 😜.
Have a Good weekend 🥰
Hi Tony, glad to see you. Your videos are always edutainment. I enjoy the educational information as well and how you entertain as you record 👍🏽
I really like this. I wouldn't turn away further "experience" videos!
That must have been amazing experience to see. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thank you for a amazing ride!
Thanks for sharing the information on this amazing bridge!
Thanks for taking us along...commentary was PERFECT🌟🌟🌟 Very Enjoyable Video🌟🌟🌟
Sorry this is late Tony, welcome to Scotland 🏴 I hope you enjoyed my home town x
Having Been over both bridges it is nice to see a different perspective from the water. Thank you
Thank you!!
What a great trip, I imagine you are home now! Enjoy your Jenny!
Thank you again Tony! Please try not to have so much fun! Scotland is one on my Bucket list! 😂❤🏴🛳️
Hi Tony. A few years ago I sailed out of Rosyth on a Fred Olsen cruise to the Baltic on the Balmoral. That meant that we sailed under all three of the Forth Bridges. It is an experience I will never forget.
Thanks Tony! That's an amazing story.
Excellent narration skills Tony. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Tony, it has been a joy on this ride/cruise with you. Maybe, one day I'll get to visit some of those places before I get too old. 😊
Sure love the boat ride. Thank you for taking us. Really felt like I was there. Could almost smell the sea. Thanks again. Always love the content
We have really enjoyed the videos from your European trip. Can’t wait to see all the vlogs that will come once you get back to lido hg
My husband and I enjoyed Edinburgh immensely when we were there two different times.
Very cool bridge. Love the design. What a fun ride. Thanks for the narration and sounds of the sea! Keep the vids coming. Thank you. ❤👍
Thanks for sharing the video of where we'll be on June 10 on the Regal Princess. We're certainly looking forward to it.
Tony thank you so much for sharing this video. Scotland is one of my places to visit do list.
Nice view of the bridges. Thanks. Felt like I was on the boat, but warm in my kitchen!
Thanks Tony - it was particularly interesting for us because we go to the same port in August, on the Rotterdam's Northern Isles cruise.
Thanks Tony!
Tony Thank you for a wonderful boat ride to Queensferry I have visited Edinburgh many times we stayed at a hotel that had views of the Bridge we have a connection to Edinburgh as my father in law was born there and came to Australia many years ago.
If you ever get the chance to go back (or if you're reading this and you are due to go), break away from the group to have a lunch at the Hawes Inn. It is right beside the Hawes Pier that the tender takes you to. The food there is phenomenal and in the colder months, they have a real fireplace burning away. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff too. Thoroughly recommended for any visit.
The bridge was the first to be built with a then new material called Steele. I was fortunate enough to have sailed under the bridge on the original Royal Princess in 2002. The ship had to sail on low tide to just make it under. Love Scotland
Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤❤
I am so jealous of this trip!
We had a sunnier day than you had, but it looked like you had as enjoyable an adventure as we did. There is so much to see in Edinburgh, I wish our itinerary had included more than one day there.
Fantastic filming Tony. I have been to Edinburgh several times but have never seen the Forth Bridge. 🌍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌍
I loved that! Thanks, Tony!
I’ve been tendered in there many times and never knew this bridge was so old.
Beautiful bridge-but what a long cold tender ride. Wow.
I've been on a train over that bridge. It's a must do next time you get to Scotland.
This is an excellent post. Thanks.
Beautifully well done. 😊 Than you .
Thanks for the view…..as always great video
That was an amazing trip. I don't know how you managed to take that elevated looking video but bravo. L❤❤
Thank you that was beautiful
Awesome thanks
Great Filming Shots
Fabulous video Tony! Can't wait for you video on Edinburgh
Wow!!! Talk about waking someone up!!!
When painting a never ending paint job, here in Scotland we say it’s like painting the fourth road Bridge’ cause it’s never ending. There are a team of painters that start at one end and work there way to the other, never ending task. A useless piece of Scottish info 🏴🏴
They used to use a lead based paint to do the job - now it's all been painted in a new hitech paint - so now it shouldn't need painted for another 30 years...
Welcome to Scotland, Tony.
This is a bucket list for me. I have English, Scottish and Irish heritage.
Great video Tony 👍 👍
I love you and Jenny Tony and I have enjoyed seeing the glee that you demonstrate as you show where yo've been, but if I have to wear a coat during my cruise, I'm out.Yes, I'm missing out, I grew up in Chicago. I have seen and felt enough cold to last a life time. I am from Puerto Rico. The 1st winter I was in Chicago, broke all records. I will pass. However, I have really loved seeing your adventure. Keep doing what you're doing.
Great video ❤❤❤❤
Try an hour ferry ride from Oban Scotland to the Isles of Mull and Iona. Cars, vans, small coaches & people. Then a two hour ferry on the Caladonian MacBraye from John O'Groats (most northern part of mainland Scotland) through the North Sea to spend 2 nights on Orkney Island. Do NOT miss Orkney Island! Or Plockton, Oban, the Highlands, Inverness, Ullapool, Ft Augustus, Ft William, Loch Lomond, Ben Nevis; in Edinburgh the Royal Mile, Hollyrood and Edinburgh Castles, New Town, Waverly Station, Sir Walter Scott Mounument, Princes Garden, the "closes" on the Royal Mile, Greyfriars Bobby, Grassmarket, Lawnmarket, the West End... It's all magical! Glad you got a taste of Scotland, Tony! 🏴
We're rooting for you in Excalibattle.
Great video.
Nice!
Wow that's a long ride
How cold was it on the ferry? 🥶🥶🥶
Good question! It does look very cold for the end of April! :)
I would love to see it myself
Is there season opposite of ours? I know Australia is, there Winter is our summer.
Tony, wish I had known you were going to be at South Queensferry, never thought I would see Tony in my neck of the woods. We take the Forth rail bridge and the others for granted, guess many people are the same when something is on their doorstep.
Tony it is NOT Edinborro it's Edinburgh, think of it as pronounced Ed in bra.
I’m in Fife and we pronounce it Edinburra. 😂😂😂
@@fionaalder122 I'm in Fife and pronounce it Edinbra
Felt like I was there with you …..
How long was the tender ride seemed very long way from the ship
After that tender ride, I’d have to run into a coffee shop and regroup!
What? No singing of that famous Elvis song "Love Me Tender"?
Carnival doesn’t want to go into port looking tacky… getting rid of clothes lines won’t change that 😂
I love watching the cruise ships coming into South Queensferry, did you pay extra to get on this boat ( Forth Belle ??)
Next time you are in Scotland we should take you to try out a kilt - I'm sure that would increase the viewers numbers..😂😂
The boat was how the cruise ship got us a ashore. No extra charge.
Good Morning Tony
Doug!
