    I agree with Blitz except the turnrate part. The game is designed around it where if some heroes had a faster turn rate it can make some heroes really difficult to deal with. Puck can can change directions and blink away after euls or phase shift leaving no possible window to be caught, it's only the turn rate which makes it possible to catch that pesky mf if she tries to turn before a blink. Heroes like Bat slow turn rates and it's a great element to his kit. AM's blink direction would be impossible to read feom his animation if he turned that quick. So no, turn rate has a place in dota, it's a flaw but it's a good flaw and the game is fundamentally built around it.

      League actually also has a recipe system. You can buy all the components individually first and then there is another cost when you buy the upgraded item. You can't buy just the recipe, which isn't a big deal in league since you don't lose gold when dying so you don't really need to get a recipe before the components.

That game is basically dota without the "outdated" game mechanics. • @JAPSICLE
      @JAPSICLE 11 месяцев назад +36

      Righttt??? DOTA's mechanics and game design is basically telling the players to be methodical and precise because each action has its consequences. Like if you didn't pay attention to your courier when sending it to the secret shop then it might get killed by the enemy. And the simple act of items getting delivered is a way of counter play as well, kill the enemy courier then you can deny them their items or their survivability in their lane, or if their courier is killed then the hero needs to buy the item themselves which can put them in danger.

      while I do agree with your overall conclusion, I must point out that HOTS is not dead, actually; even now it has quite a vibrant and active community, and the queue time does not take more than a min or so. It is in fact abandoned by the developers, of course, so you obviously hear nothing about the game and so on, but it is still out there, it still has quite a significant player base. So if the developers were to resuscitate the game, it would be kicking right now as well.

    dota is like the art of war, you need to properly coordenate with your team, use your resources (and sometimes the team resources) wisely, have a strategy, have a gameplan with itens in mind, with timing in mind, with early/mid/late game in mind, all while you react to your opponent or make them react all that while you try to keep a good gold/xp lead

    Turn rate is literally the main reason why League's balance always feels bad for ADCs. When the system mechanics make ranged characters inherently overpowered, you have have to play an insane juggling game as a designer trying to make certain character abilities weak, make certain items balanced for both ranged and melee characters, etc.; and overall this makes balance infinitely more difficult than it needs to be. So many toxic metas could have been avoided if they just kept turn rate.

Then i got back to league in 2019 i only reach platinum. After a year i got back at dota 2 again, first 2 game is hard, i need to adjust. But after that it was all good, peak 2018. Dota 2 is all about mechanics, when you know the mechanics you can come back anytime while LoL is all about reflex, speccialy in higher rank. I know this because i notice that the older i got, my hand doesnt listen to my mind anymore just like the good old days.

    LoL = all about reflex

    • @ImKioto97
      @ImKioto97 4 месяца назад +2

      That's just not true. The reason you peaked lower everytime you came back to league is because the game has evolved a lot in the last years and the average player is way better and has more game knowledge. For example 8 years ago no one even knew what wave management was. Nowadays it's a fundamental of the game and even gold players know a thing or two about it. You can be bad mechanically or have high ping and still be high rank in league, because it's all about decision making and anticipation, not reaction. That's how you get players that hit challenger at 150 ping. Mechanics are important, but there are way more important things.
      I can't talk about Dota2, since I haven't played it. I'm sure it's very difficult, everybody seems to have the same opinion on it. But your League take is wrong, or at least obsolete

The role 4 and 5 in dota, the support and jungler in lol. Many other things that don’t transfer from a game to another. I know plenty of dota players, where they are good, playing league for thousands hours and still being bronze. Once you properly learnt one of the 2 games, you won’t probably bother to get good in the other one, because both the games need A LOT of time (years), to get decent at, plus they are very old games, with players that played for a decade and there is no way you’ll get to their level unless you are 12yo. Both games are very good, dota kinda has a deeper macro, league of legends has a more arcade gameplay, it’s more fun to play characters there. I find league of legends players to stick to just one character because the learning curve of the character itself is huge, while on dota it’s more tactic and you can easier hop from a character to another according to what team needs.

    Turn rate and secret shop exist because of hero balance and also sets apart players who can micro and know stats. There's a clip of a Spectre with litteraly 1 hp because of her armlet, and carrying a rapier. She used Phase and she was able to walk through somebody and just keep stabbing them in the back and move over perfectly between each auto attack from the enemy to stay out of their turn rate and never get hit She won, and then proceeded to win the match because she understood this 1 mechanic most people just decide to get mad at and not master. It also balances heroes like Terrorblade who if he could ult out his asshole instantly, would be undefeatable. There's also nukers like Zeus, powerful stunners like WitchDoctor and Ogre Magi, and powerful game ending ults like Warlock's ult that would become too good if they could instantly drop one behind themselves. These miliseconds make a massive, huge difference in high skill play and if turn rate didnt exist the game would become a whole lot less fun and less strategic. It would also throw more than half the roster under the bus and leave the game in a state of a very boring linear meta.
    Secret shop exists because it's part of Dota's neutral game, which matters WAY more than League's. Every second of your position, where your team goes, etc. matters so much and having a part of the shop outside of spawn safety is part of this neutral game. If it didn't exist, characters like AM would be uncatchable and would just stomp lobbies if you couldn't utilize warding and smoking secret shops.

    • @MgMast3r
      @MgMast3r 11 месяцев назад +4

      My issue with dota balance, which is still way superior to league IMO, is that there are just some outlier heroes that Valve just refuses to do anything about, even tho' they could easily. I'm talking about the usual smurf heroes everyone has been complaining for years on end, the tinkers, arc wardens, I guess mby the huskars& meepos too tho' not nearly as much as the other 2, arguably the invokers & pucks too cause what were once rare picks only played by folks who invested tons of time in 'em , are things you see once every 3-5 games (or once every other game in Voker's case). Things like his shard EMP being like a Enigma black hole on low cd with tons of mana drain for instance, are NOT cool.
      Aside from those tho' , it's generally much better. Yea, there's some patch favs but there's always niche counters that genuinely work well vs 'em with the right items & playstyle. We see carry willow in TI being hit or miss basically, and mostly miss in pubs, yet broken in the right conditions.
      But I just don't know why do Volvo & some of the community INSIST on nothing being done about those mentioned heroes that legit most of the community hates and the games honestly feels way better off when no1 plays ' em. Who's even having fun in a game vs Tinker or Arc Warden besides the mf playing 'em? Their kits are inherently just toxic design, as if made by some 12y ol that wants to ignore most of the game mechanics, bypass most counters and just play on GM mode stomping regular, "pleb" heroes that have to play by at least some rules.

    Dota2 is a masterpiece MOBA that isn't really comparable to League, but both games are fun and challenging in different ways. (A big asterisk here for League, since I am referring to back in the day league that was infinitely better than it is now.)
    I play Dota since like 2003-2004 and League for 2 years back in S2-S3. Played both games competitively, or at least with that mindset and I gotta tell you I had fun in League.
    It's really not comparable to Dota in terms of almost anything. The Depth in Dota is something magical, the variety this game has is probably in the realm of chess games variety.
    You can see incredible things not thought possible, almost every year at The International. It's crazy!
    Anyway, with that said I don't think the two games need to be compared. They appeal to different audiences. I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the fast paced gameplay league had to offer back then. It was extremely fun to destroy and outplay people on my Orianna and Ezreal. Unfortunately I think Riot chose a very bad way of balancing League in the long run.
    Long story short Dota is better, but not everyone wants to have to go through a university of theory just to be able to understand what's going on in a game and that's fine.
    That's how legacy games usually are. Especially one like Dota where the game evolved enormously over its lifespan, but a lot of mechanics and even heroes are nearly identical to what they used to be 15 years ago.
    Edit: Oh and btw I'll always respect Riot for Arcane. They completely destroyed Valve in the animes department and that shit is a masterpiece! ;)
    Edit2: Pretty good video too now that I finished it I guess we feel pretty similarly about the topic.

    • @MgMast3r
      @MgMast3r 11 месяцев назад +9

      I think League has balance issues that run deep and have become unsalvageable w/o low-key remaking the game - a rabbit hole of toxic design needing to be addressed by more toxic design (most modern hero kits since several years now), or reworks, in a game of ever-rising power creep so there's no getting better.
      But Dota doesn't have these issues, just a few outlier heroes that the game'd prolly be better off w/o (stuff like Tinker/Arc Warden) that almost no1 likes playing vs or with those, but it's just a very small nr of heroes. In a sense it does make it kinda frustrating that Volvo just leaves 'em like this tho' ... Aside from that, the inherent, core game design is indeed a masterpiece and with such a solid foundation of "every move you perceive as broken has a reasonable counter, sometimes easier to pull off than you think to the point that it acts like an eye opener when you DO figure it out & feel like you've ascended to a new level of game knowledge" , it'll inherently just offer a more rewarding & exciting experience for me, while with League it's more like a thing to play on the fly, kinda like a mobile game.
      That and, the fact that the clients feel like decades apart : P Blitz should've mentioned this...

    Dota 2 is just much more complex than LoL
    I can even say Dota 2 is much more easier to build items due to having a guide unlike in Dota 1 where you literally have to memorize every recipe + items required to build specific items heck even bots of Dota 1 ( even easy difficulty ) can play well against a seasoned Dota player and if a LoL player decides to play a high rank Dota match that person isn't gonna have a fun time especially there are wave blocking and careful ward placements in the map so you won't get jumped by the enemy team while farming and also there's creep denying.
    If you had the feeling of being level 5 while the rest of your teammates are already level 7 or above that's the feeling of always being creep denied especially if your enemy is good on denying you creeps to prevent you from levelling up.

    My only issue with League was, that every fucking character gets crazier and crazier with the movement ability.
    I get it, the game is fast so the characters need to be fast as well, but then my stupid-ass that was maining Xerath, Vel'Koz and Vlad is an equivalent of stabbing yourself into your thighs with a screwdriver while trying to do squats.
    At least in Dota my mains even if they are not meta, still can win the game and adjust to the meta, or at the very least you can support by stacking, warding/de-warding, smoke up your team and do harm to the enemy team by scouting out their stacks and having deep wards to spot smokes.
    Afterall, DotA is more about information, so if your pick sucks, you can always play the long game, evade enemy as long as possible in hopes you'll outfarm them :^)

    Someone has said it, every Dota player probably said it in their mind, but I'll say it anyway. To me, what makes Dota "Dota", are the small things. Every mainstream MOBA I've played, ML, Hahahaha (LOL), and including Dota have raw stats item. Such as damage, defence/armor, resists. But for Dota and Dota specifically, there are these small things/mechanics like true strike/evasion - esp the low/high ground miss chance mechanic, individual stats and main attributes, passive breaking, front/back attack and including the most important mechanic, turn rate. Turn rate is by far the most annoying and important aspect of game mechanic. It is also what divides the ranks. While in the high and very high MMR it's up to the mistakes/strategy/draft to win games, in mid to low MMR, it's the mechanics. And if you watch low rank games, you'll always see them waste time trying to attack as range (such as Sniper) but as the enemy melee catch up they turn again without actually getting an attack off. They kept spinning without attacking due to turn rate. So only people who actually knows the mechanic can control/use the kiting system in Dota effectively.

    IMO DotA is built around its items and LoL is built around its champions.
    A DotA player will say that LoL has shallow build diversity and overall game mechanics(denying creeps, access to jungle for whole team, greater map mobility)
    A LoL player will say that DotA is less exciting due to slower game pace, turn speed, really strong CC, and bland heroes(personality/simplistic abilities)

    I don't agree with the ''bad game design'' of dota's buying mechanic. I had my fair share of games won because we knew the enemy team had a key item to buy in the secret market and couldnt get out of base, so we waited around with a ward to snipe the courier and make sure their PA wouldnt suddenly pop outta base with a divine or a Void with a refresher. It is convoluted but it is not pointless. And turn rate is goat, it might be one of the biggest mechanical reasons why Dota is harder and more strategic focused. Cuz positioning fking matters as infinite kiting is next to impossible. Also it is a mechanic that you can abuse.

    "15 consecutive games of league" has the same vibe of "8 hours of deathmatch on shipment" or "3 hours of working out in a gym"
    the appeal is that you weren't thinking much, so it's less mentally exhausting
    3 games of dota feels like 3 separate and different rollercoasters, you'd be pretty tired of rollercoasters for a bit and might consider a chill time on a ferris wheel for while
    but goddamn if you're into it after every moba game it feels like you were so close to making a breakthrough on improving, so you queue another one hoping that that "it will happen this time"
    *sigh*
