That's a fact! I'm an ElderGoth, and this has happened to me. Pretty much all of us would cheerfully help a kid. Okay, maybe gloomily help a kid, but the kid is getting help!
Metalheads and Goths are some of the best people you'll ever meet. Saved me from getting crushed in a mosh pit as a short 17-year old girl in the wrong shoes.
@@BettyBamBamlmao. I love that no serial killer would dress as a goth. They’re trying to pull people into a sense of security and be as non-threatening as possible.
This literally happened to ME last week at the mall food court. It was totally packed and there weren’t any empty seats, people had to share. I looked around and there was a punky looking goth guy sitting at a 4 top by himself so I plopped down and said Hi. Turns out he and his 2 lady friends (who were in the restroom) were in town to rescue a SNAKE! and the women were from my hometown! I gave them some tips on where to waste a couple hours before snake rescue time :) Anyway, I always used to tell my kids too, look for a mom with a stroller or a punk-y person if you’re ever lost. They’re good people. ❤
Hahha sound advice. Most people who look like gloomy, edgy weirdos are actually big softies who care deeply about helping others. We just wear black and spikes as a defense mechanism 🥺
I actually just got to this minisode (I'm behind 😭) and was thinking about how great this story would be for MFM Animated. What a delight to wake up to this morning! Simply the most heartwarming. 😊❤
I love this story so, so much. I always wished I'd had the confidence to be a goth in high school, and really admired the one gal who had liberty spikes, because (I realize in hindsight, almost 40 years later) she gave absolutely no fucks. But she was always pretty cool to me.
I have been seeing this all over TikTok for the past few weeks and I saw on Instagram recently so I thought I have to see if there’s a full video of this because I keep getting cut off on some of the parts so I found the video and it reminds me of the time that I used to get approached by little kids and they would ask me so yeah I feel how this person is feeling. That is so sweet though and also a good thing for the mom to teach the little one to ask for help if they find a goth or punk or Grandma that is so sweet I now listen to the full video and I’m happy
My bestie was a goth when we met in college. They later told me that most people found them unapproachable- saying no one ever sat in the seats right next to them even when it was crowded. But I loved their long blue hair with a side shave so I complimented them on it. Basically from that moment on, we were best friends. Still are.
Honestly, probs pretty statistically sound advice. Even my emo-ass self wouldn't forsake a vulnerable person despite my general lack of enthusiasm toward them [#people in general]. Generally speaking the predators are gonna appear "normal"
I was that little girl... no Goths in 1965 though! I did go up to women though and would ask if they'd seen my momi, a lady with red hair? Have you? No one ever was chill enough to help this way and it is brilliant!
Except not all people like kids. I hope that, when I'm old and look like a Goth "grandma" that some random kid doesn't come to me looking for help. I'm more likely to foist them off onto someone else and try to get away as quickly as possible.
The point of the advice is not to help them find someone who LIKES kids, but to help them find someone who won't KIDNAP them. Do you actually ARE still the right choice for the kid in that moment if your reaction is "Oh he'll no. Where is your mom. She needs to take you back now" as opposed to "Oh look. An unattended child. I want to keep it." Even if you do nothing to coddle their feelings, the kid gets home safe if they ask you instead of the well dressed man with the kittens in his car.
The January 20th, 2025 My Unsung Hero on NPR is another great example! Little girl got on wrong train, mom freaked out seeing a punk walk up to her, but he helped her get off at the next stop and take a train back to her mom.
I wonder if most goths have trauma or emotional struggles, so they understand the important of not inflicting pain on others. I would love to know if there was ever a goth serial killer. But I doubt it. Wouldn’t make sense since serial killers are always trying to be non-threatening.

An ElderGoth ☆☆☆☆☆

I’m an ElderPunk with Goth leanings, this story made me so happy & proud tbh.
That mom is so smart and also so funny. I love the fact that the mom was like “you remembered!” 😂
While Goth people may be considered generally safe around children, this story is obviously fake.
Fellow Punk and Metal Head, can confirm that we will help!
The way she holds the kid up to the employee just cracks me up.
No one is more outwardly authentic and honest about who they are than a goth. Makes sense to trust them with a lost kid.
As a punk this warmed my heart. 🖤💕
I love the Mothman flipping us off patch on the jacket!
Where can I get one?
Thanks! I had to go back and check!
same!
I’m sayin’. If a kid goes up to a clean cut, handsome, god fearing gentlemen . . . Congratulations, you just asked Ted Bundy for help.
God forbid if he’s charming😂
At Toys R Us we announced “There’s a lost mommy in the store,” which usually got some chuckles. Maybe we should have requested volunteer goths too.
Granny here and you betcha I would help!!
Goth here! I will protect a strangers child/pet with my life!
This is so great!!! That mom has the right idea, every visibly goth or punk person I've ever met has been a top notch person.
Metalheads and Goths are some of the best people you'll ever meet. Saved me from getting crushed in a mosh pit as a short 17-year old girl in the wrong shoes.
I was expecting it to be that the kid misheard “cop” for “goth” or had some other misunderstanding. Was not expecting those instructions from mom 😂
Same! I kept trying out sounds in my head (“Agoth? Agot? Agatha?”) I didn’t even get to cop.
Well I feel more noble wearing my full length leather duster jacket to the store now.
cried when I heard this on the pod, crying watching this now. I love this story.
Aww, wholesome story, and good advice!
I absolutely plan to tell my kids this advice.
Same!!
There was a case of a serial killer that dressed as a grandma, so maybe not a grandma 😕

This story is so sweet 😭 I love to see the Nick Terry treatment!! I'm going to put this on my playlist to watch when I'm sad 💖
Yep, as someone who knows goths I can confirm goths are some of the safest people to be around.
This story got me weepy in the car when I heard it a couple months back.
I always think about it when I get dressed.
I've had a similar experience. A little kid came up to me and asked if I was a goth. I said yes . The the kid said cool and just walked away 😅
Hahha sound advice. Most people who look like gloomy, edgy weirdos are actually big softies who care deeply about helping others. We just wear black and spikes as a defense mechanism 🥺
Every time I hear this story I cry I love it so much x
Holy crap that mom is cool as hell.
I love you Nick Terry!!!
I actually just got to this minisode (I'm behind 😭) and was thinking about how great this story would be for MFM Animated. What a delight to wake up to this morning! Simply the most heartwarming. 😊❤
I'm a former punk, and I would gladly put my life on the line to help/save a child.
This story gives me goosebumps every time ❤ I’m so glad you did this one 🖤🖤

This warmed my old crust-punk heart…

This is one of my favorite emails! I was in love with it when they had it on a minisode! Thank you for making it into an animation!! ❤😊
Eeeee!!! I loved hearing this Hometown and am delighted to see it in adorably animated form.
Little teenage Georgia with her choker ❤
I love this one. Makes me misty every time.
Came here to say the same. Brings me to tears each time . In the good way. 🥲
NICK!!!! Another masterpiece!!!!!!
I was not prepared for how wholesome this was!
Wait but why did this make me cry?? Go Mom, you're doing something right.
Likely an ex goth/ punk herself. 😊

Omg one of my fave minisode stories!
Oh this is just so sweet and funny and truly true, ahh my heart! 🖤
As always, well done Nick Terry!!!!!!!
Mother&*#@in magical. I love it.
Randomly found this on Instagram and had to see the whole thing
This is so true, can’t think of any goths that are bad people that I know 😅😅
Literally just forwarded this to my 12 year old ❤️
Smartest parent ever!
Love 🖤, great story! Nick did it again!!
I think about this story all the time 😅
Same! I was so excited when I saw this pop up lol
oh i was so hoping for an animated of this story!
Beautiful as always!
One of my favorite hometowns!! ❤
The second I heard this minisode I thought.. I can’t wait to see this animated 😂
I have been waiting for this to be an MFM animated!
Goth / Emo who is also an older sister, I can confirm that I will (and did) help a small child if they need any help
Honestly, probs pretty statistically sound advice. Even my emo-ass self wouldn't forsake a vulnerable person despite my general lack of enthusiasm toward them [#people in general].
Generally speaking the predators are gonna appear "normal"
This gives me such joy. :)
Exactly what I tell me kid. A goth, a grandma, or a biker.
😭So true!!! This got me tearing up... 💖
One of my favorite hometowns.
One of my all time favorite stories.
I want more stories like this one 😭😭
Love this sooo freakin much!! It's my feel good watch ❤
Yup. Perfect choice. I was just thinking about this story yesterday
I love the 14 year old wannabe goth Georgia
I'm gonna cry!
Yessssss love this story
So heartwarming and true....I'm tearing up

First! And I love this story, it’s one of my favorites!❤
I love you guys

OG Goth here. Can confirm.
I love the “bomb” hold/presentation of the child. Not at all accurate.
I'm a lazy goth and I miss my pet rat that used to chill on my shoulder!! RIP Ms Frisbee
Now I know 😊
Its the witches of the creek 🧙♀️

Was the dad of the pointing kid a callback? Feels like we’ve seen him before.
I think he’s in Hot Dog Justice, reading the boring newspaper before the hot dog statue got kidnapped 😆🤣
safe humans!
I've heard goths are instinctually good at cobblery. Any truth to that rumor?
I dress pretty punk or goth and if a kid asked for my help, I'm dropping everything to help them. Same when I'm a punk goth grandma
Love this advice! But I would add bikers onto the list as well.
😂❤❤❤
Marilie Ports
Also bikers. Look for bikers.
I was thinking the same thing while I watched the video!
This is so smart but I would honestly be afraid of giving my kid the wrong signs to look for and having them end up with Richard Ramirez.
I was thinking this too haha, sometimes scary looking people really are scary
Real Punks are Really good people. fascists co-opted punk!
