What am I even doing? Today's my birthday & I'm just waking up & brewing my coffee & getting ready to go teach- waking up to Dustin's beautifully-animated story feels like I'd received a surprise present from an old friend to start the day.
Happy birthday! May you have the best year yet my fellow Murderino friend!! (What am I even doing? Probably overthinking everything about the above message. I couldn’t figure out how to word that in a way that didn’t sound stalker adjacent, so just know I tried. Last year no one wished me a happy birthday and it bummed me out so I vowed never to let that happen to anyone else on my watch. And I sincerely mean it. Anyway, SSDGM!!)
One morning I woke up, went into my living room, and found a bat sleeping on my large floor speaker. I immediately called my husband, who was on his way home from night shift. In the 10 minutes before he got home, I totally bonded with the bat. (It was all one sided, I'm sure.) We ended up wrapping it in a dish towel, and my husband climbed the tree in our yard to give the bat a perch. It screeched its little screech a couple of times and eventually flew away. That was 30 years ago. I've loved bats ever since.

I just love this so much! Growing up in Pennsylvania we used to get bats in the house all the time over the summer because my dad would leave the basement door opened.
I once pulled the cover off our outdoor gas grill and rolled it out from under the awning. When I set it down, a tiny brown blur I thought was a small bird flew out from under the side table and back under the awning where it landed on a rafter. When I looked up at it, a fuzzy little brown face with huge ears stared back down at me.
I saw bat in the title and I hoped it would be the story about the mom whose kid touched a dead bat and got a call from the school but decided to go see Barbie first before taking her daughter to the hospital
I encountered a bat that snuck into my home. My wife woke me up to tell me there was a giant moth in the bedroom (to which I tried to go back to sleep, thinking I was dreaming). It turned out to be a bat, we opened a window and it went on it's merry way. So I guess I know how I'd react to an unexpected bat 😝
Use of Vivaldi's "Winter" here is perfection!!! 🎶
I was going to say the same. Very well done.

As a former security officer, I have assisted in the capture and release of dozens of bats. They're not dangerous.
*unless they’re carrying rabies
@LikeTheProphet That's pretty rare. Most bats are just chilling 😎
8 foot tall skeleton. Check.
