the craziest dice i got was on the catarn mobile app against the cpu, the dice chart was a u shape with the most common roll a 12 and the least common roll the 8 and 5 (thai had double of each from my first 2 settlements)

I think you made a mistake at 20:39 should have worked with table to get a brick to cut off blue. Others would have worked with you to stop road, would have set you up for a settle (low odds you get that compared to another city, but its 1 more out) and uses you useless wood brick.

Actually I could’ve just used the YOP and port all my sheep to plow. That was the critical move that needed to happen. I make worse decisions under time pressure, something I’m trying to get better at.
Love your content, Dylan! There were a couple head scratchers here lol why not play aggressive knight @ 14:20? No reason to hold 3 knights ever imo.

That last turn before blue teased you were taking about settling, but a city would have been way easier 3 to 1 brick for ore sheep for ore and wheat for ore
so many mistakes from you. especially not cutting blue off there at the end? what the hack... his intention was clear and you could have stopped it and win the game
dylighted is legitimately bad at the game now, I’ve been saying this for months
@@arnavagrawal3786Dylan was always a mediocre player, regarding calculation and tactical awareness. What makes him a great player overall is his superb social skills. When you take out the social aspect from the game, like in the 1v1 Catan, Dylan can't compete for the podium.

Dylighted there should be AI models that apply to catan more or less out of the box, since the amount of hidden information is small. It would however require potentially large cost for compute to train.
Yea the biggest thing is that it requires funding, time, and passion.
Even when you create the statistically optimal game play AI, it still won't be that good since there is a lot of player interactivity in this game. Just an example from this game where Dylan had to consider going for devs instead of first city, as city makes him appear stronger and get blocked more likely. That's really hard for AI to take into account because it depends on skill level of other players or game meta in general. Also trading with other players can get tricky, but I guess this is something AI can overcome. But when it comes to tactics based on trust/respect like port trading, noneblocks, insurance, I don't think AI is up for the task. It would certainly help you as a player in certain areas, though.

Nah it’s just variance, when you play a lot of games you’re going to have games that have rare dice scenarios
I had the opposite luck … both my settlement were on 8's and its rolled TWICE all game … safe to say I only got 3vp
I've found 8 is consistently the worst of the high pip numbers. I hate having to rely on 8 over 6

defending the 6/11 with the YOP was more important than the 3:1 port IMO
I think the 3:1 is needed in this spot. The critical move is cutting back on the 3911 to plow Blue
@@DyLightedCatan 3:1 more important for sure but that spot wasn’t really ever at risk whereas the 6/11 was. And that would have killed blue’s chance at road.

I’m surprised you didn’t use your 2nd year of plenty to build on the 6-11. That would’ve given you access to brick and blocked blue

I think blue did a very god job placing his settlements. Picking the 6-5-10 removed both 8-5-10 and 6-9-10, thus weakening his opponents.
Also, Picking the wheat 5 with the second settlement was tough but a must, as it was the best wheat spot in the game. he also gets a starting wood and he can go to wood 6,9,4.
Why wouldn't you just got 4,9,2 and road to 5,2 then instead of sacrificing an extra wood and ore. Especially since you secure the other spot by placing on the former but not vice versa with the latter.

I don't understand why people use the normal dice instead of the "card stack" option... the game gets so much better T_T

I once had 0 7s in a game with 37 Turns and 4 players. That's a likelyhood of 0.00000000019%.
Obviousely pretty boring game otherwise, as the player who was a bit more lucky than the others just steamrolled as we didn't have an ability to block them.
That slow play was mess up.

Btw, "3 cannot roll again" is a huge mistake that I see many people making... Thats not how probability works.. Dice dont have memory... The probability of a number rolling is NOT changed by the past. Obviously, if you have never been in stock market or played poker for serious money, you are not trained in recognizing and processing varriance..
I was saying this to say “I can’t win if more 3’s roll” rather than “oh the 3 rolled 5 times, it can’t roll again.” Hope that gives more context
My family doesn’t want to play catan with me anymore bc I watch u too much so I’m better than they are 🥲
