I love how they all stay in character. I'm a recent convert to this show. Discovered it accidentally, as it's virtually unknown where I live in the USA. I understand it's highly regarded in the UK, as it should be. Forget the modern big-screen reboot. The ORIGINAL Dad's Army episodes are hilarious. The series may have ended 4 decades ago, but they're brand new to me!
I know how you feel. I accidentally discovered it while trying to find something to watch (I can't stand most American tv). It's such a funny and refreshing show.
Dads Army had its very own special charm and soul , that endeared the tv viewers to love it for near on 10 years. Very few comedies captured the viewers hearts like this little gem, written by genius writers Perry and croft. With brilliant character acting and hilarious scripts, Dads Army is a classic that was part of a Golden Era of British comedy from the 1960s and 70s............miss those wonderful times
Arthur Lowe altering his glasses and cap right at the end there during the "squabble." And the laugh that Arthur Lowe and John Le Mesurier shared at around the 2:21 mark was simply brilliant to watch. What a truly wonderful cast of actors! And an amazing clip to keep watching.
I'm currently playing Pvt Frazer in the stage version of "Dads Army", it feels great to be able to keep these wonderful characters alive for future generations, the audiences are still laughing in all the same places and still loving it, we even got a round of applause last night for the "What is your name?.....Don't tell him pike" line 😂😂
So nice to see some of the cast impromptu like that. It just brings into focus what a professional, tight group they really were. The series is my comfort in an increasingly dystopian world. Cheers for posting!
So neat to see these great thespians who were in their grand characters away from the set. A timeless show I've truly come to enjoy. Long live the past efforts of the Home Guard. From the States, Keith
Thank you, UK L. As you may be aware, the greater majority of the cast were soldiers et al. during World Wars One and Two. Kudos. *Rest In Peace* - and All the Best. Rab 😎 🍻 🌠 🕊 👋
Despite A.R.P. Warden Hodges being a smarmy character, he also made me lol in Dad's Army and especially when he and Capt. Mainwaring were always bickering at one another! Warden Hodges to Capt. Mainwaring: Now, Look 'ere, Napoleon! 🤣🤣
By the time of the second series the writers were basing the main characters on the actual actors. Hence, John Le Mesurier really was very close to Arthur Wilson. Having said that Bill Pertwee was nothing like Hodges. I met him once and a nicer fellow you couldn't wish to meet. Also he starred in Round the Horne as he was quite a good impressionist.
@@glen7318 So I gather. It's well documented that after the first series the writers based more of the characters on the actors own traitts. Hence Wilson as Century22 points out, bares more than a passing resemblance to John Le Mesurier.
One thing that always bugged me was seeing promo images for the Dad's Army movie in which Mainwaring is wearing the 1970s horn rimmed glasses that are clearly Arthur Lowe's own and not the little round wire framed glasses from the 1940s. Its a small thing but it catches my eye every time.
The Blue Peter Episode on 29 Apr 1974: Peter Purves does an introduction, and explains that on Sunday 5 May 1974 Jones' van will be appearing in the London to Brighton run. Captain Mainwaring then drives Jones' van onto the Blue Peter set, and is interviewed by John Noakes.
Here I would have been almost four and so Play School age. My interest in Dad's Army started when I was old enough to watch the programme. The Deadly Attachment is the best episode of the lot!
How brilliant David croft and Jimmy Perry Let these fine actors basically be themselves It shows that they liked being in each others Company and could so easily fall in to character.. Part of what makes me happy is Seeing them happy.. 😊
This was my Halloween costume and one person got it and walked up to me and said "England shall be crushed never to rise again" and cowered in a corner.
I find reporters in these situations annoying, they push a microphone at these people expecting 'that guy off the telly' to 'do his thing' but forget the great writing isn't there to make them shine, the lads do well with what they have but are slightly terrified to get into too much adlib
There will never be anything like this again.......brilliant and sadly missed.
Absolutely 💯%
Indeed, its Sadly missed ...
The way they could just transition into character so effortlessly is why we loved them.

Some things never age
It’s loved here.

There was an american version, can't remember what it was called though.
It seems to get better and better with age, it's the subtle things that one missed before !
Love how Arthur Lowe keeps smiling and trying not to laugh. A great video, thanks for sharing.
You got to love these guys.
They 'll never die......
Arthur Lowe smiling. Priceless.

RIP Gents, thank you for the laughs! Only thing missing was Walker 😢🌹

Such loveable characters. The complete Dads Army DVD collection is my greatest treasure. After watching the final show I start again at the beginning!
Every clip of these guys is a treat to watch!
What gem! Brought tears to my eyes for both humour and the nostalgia. Jimmy Perry on the bus as well.
Love Dad's Army one of the best programs ever done
Bill Pertwee's casting as the warden was inspired, that officious little bully was the epitome of a certain type of public servant.
This is literally my fav dads army video on the net.
Brilliant program with brilliant cast. Remakes of this brilliant show will never be as good as the original chaps.
They and the British Home Guard have been made immortal by our gratitude.
Great upload! They all ad-lib so well as their characters, and nice to see they all seemed to get on well.

What a gang!
Just imagine how funny it must have been recording this series.
I love the tussle at the end. Arthur Lowe adjusting his glasses, no doubt the plan to turn round with them skewiff. 😂
I am 39.... And recognise this as the best TV of my youth. With family
With family.
Great show and fine cast! Well done boys, this kind of mild humour is missed.
Oh what a treat to have been there, lovely to see them again
The interviewer is superb . The cast members are fantastic . A TV series that showed how quality was the only criteria that things were judged on .
Really enjoyed Dad's Army. Great stuff !! 👍👍
Thank you, UK L. As you may be aware, the greater majority of the cast were soldiers et al. during World Wars One and Two. Kudos.

Rab 😎 🍻 🌠 🕊 👋
Thanks for sharing this clip! 👍🏻
Clive Dunn as
Lance Corporal Jones is my favourite in Dad's Army. I absolutely adore him! 🥰
This is excellent and very interesting and informative

I love Ian 'Pike' Lavender's 70's sideburns!
Love these guys lost count of the times I was in tears of laughter bless em all 👍😂
the warden is mint!
Despite A.R.P. Warden Hodges being a smarmy character, he also made me lol in Dad's Army and especially when he and Capt. Mainwaring were always bickering at one another!
Warden Hodges to Capt. Mainwaring: Now, Look 'ere, Napoleon! 🤣🤣
John Le Mesurier barely had to act; Wilson was just a natural extension of his personality!
and looks mighty fine in those shades.
He actually based sgt. Wilson on himself

@@timelordtardis And apparently arthur Loew was as pompous as Capt Mainwairing

lovely stuff....... jolly good show.
I love this.

Mainwaring: What is it with the sunglasses Wilson? Who do you think you are? Keith Richards?
That was just like watching the TV show.
The chaps are well refreshed after a nice long lunch! Brilliant

Superb
There's no words to pay these justice
The original cast made a Dad's Army film in the 70s. Very funny.
Truly a Great Show with a Great Cast and Crew!
Brilliant
It seems so innocent compared to the daily horrors of this bloody modern age. How I yearn for them. 😪❤️
Absolutely brilliant
Brilliant.
Brilliant!!!
Watch it every time it's on.
Absolutely wonderful.
I was but 2mths old,. AC (After Conception lol) when this was filmed.
The Beatles of British comedy...imagine crowds like that appearing for sitcom stars today.
Happy days!
Some appreciation, please, for the interviewer's comb-over.
I do wish O could have seen thos when it was happening 🙂
I love these guys.
Why are you wearing those sunglasses? Brilliant!!
5 May 1974, the London to Brighton rally - according to Dad's Army Timeline
You are correct. I have amended the title and description accordingly. Thanks.
That was delightful
Nice!😄
Private Pike said innit , the lout !
Pure gold.
Often copied, never equaled!
Absolutely. The recent movie proved this 100%. The original Dads army was perfect.
God bless them all, brilliant when comedy was comedy not like the crap today .
Their chemistry is great. lol
Adorable
Britbox - Tommy cooper - series one/episode four - Arthur Lowe at the end 👌
Jones is my favourite character is corporal Jones
Oh happy days !
Bloody 'ooligans!!!
It’s a shame that James Beck wasn’t there.
Sadly there was no mention of mrs Mannering!!!
I bet Le Mes is smoking a joint.
Gen X stand for your royalty
is that james beck on top of the bus or another extra?
RightSide of 40 I'd say it was James Beck - wonder why he wasn't in the interview
It's not Beck, he died the year previous. :(
I actually think it’s Jimmy Perry.
Would love to know how much they were paid per episod
Thank god ! They are not like the fake or moody celebrities of Hollywood orNY broadway !
Not bad ⚡️

I bet Walker is waiting for an Uber.
If this fantastic comedy was made today. It would be full of all sorts of pc bullshit.
t
A lot of egos competiting
What on earth are you talking about
