The guy in video knows what he is talking. The older versions of the M1070 1992-2003 don`t have the diff locks from side to side. They only have the front wheel drives and interaxle locks or power deviders from axle to axle. The newer versions do have both locks (axle to axle and wheel to wheel). Newer version is M1070A1 with Cat C18 engine.
Why wouldn't these trucks be great for logging? They were designed for hauling heavy loads, like full battle tanks off road for the army . The only downside I can see is parts availbiltiy when one breaks down.
the mechanical parts like the engine and trans are everywhere only the more specialty stuff like tires wheels eletrical things and air brake parts are hard to find
@@brianb-p6586 2 strokes don't really make sense in this application, it would have to always stay on low gear and use a whole lot of fuel because of much lower torque they have compared to a four stroke at lower RPMs(talking about the Detroit 2strokes)
You think that 2-stroke diesels are unsuitable for low-speed applications,@86? Do you realize that the the largest diesel engines in ships are 2-strokes? The Detroit Series 92 is long obsolete, but it produces the about the same torque at its rated peak torque speed (1200 to 1400 RPM) as four-stroke diesels of the same displacement (12 L) in the same era.
He has no diff locks (only power dividers). That is why. They are not that good in real offroad scenario. You want heavy military semi for bad offroad...you better buy used MAZ 537. Much better offroad, not so good onroad.
Didn't use differential lock, that's why. The M1070 can easily handle hills like that with even heavier loads, but the operator also needs to know to use the diff lock, which this fellow clearly didn't.
@@siegfriedkuhlechner7718 it is not 6x6 it is 8x8. And civilian Kamaz is not really that good. It also lack lockers all around. Put load that heavy and Kamaz would get stuck just the same. Military MAZ 537...that would be different story..bigger tires, full lockers.

If they made the HUMV and MRAP for sale this is possible
Check the government auctions can get em for a decent price they almost always missing some parts like doors and stuff though from what I've seen
M1070 has full differential locks, why didn't he use them?
That’s what I was thinking too, amateur’s , I’d hate to dee em in an old Mack with a Quad box (18-20) gears.
Could be broken?
@@DJHumla Could be broken, yeah. But if it can't be used even here, what's the whole point of the thing? This is no tarmac, you know.
in the original video he says it doesn't have differential locks but I think the guy just didn't know all the controls in the truck

The title of the video is incorrect, this is not a 6x6. The M1070 is an 8x8.

@ickleshouse the original M1070 has a Detroit Diesel 8V92TA; the newer M1070A1 has a Caterpillar C18.

Jesus Lives , God is Love
It is failing due to lack of traction, not lack of power.
How is this a 6x6 when it has 4 axles? I'm 100% sure this is an 8x8, and if not, then it's an 8x6 at minimum! However, I'm sure it's an 8x8!
7 speed with a single speed transfer case?
5 speed with a 2 gear transfer case.
