Can I ask why you keep your vocals SO quiet in the mix, man? I can BARELY hear you at times. The way you create these instrumentals, the backing vocals cut through very sharp sometimes and in general everything around the instrumental is kinda suffocating your voice. Is this genuinely how you prefer to mix?
Dave, with all due respect, I can hear him just fine!👌 his cover is on point and vocals are beyond the charts. Maybe is something to do with what your audio inputs are...?
Okay you might have interpreted what I said a bit too literally. I can tell the difference between his vocal and the instrumental, problem is the instrumental isn't entirely an instrumental so his vocals are about even with whatever backing vocals are left in the song and as someone who makes vocal covers myself, I've been of the mentality you want your own vocals pushed up higher in the mix as to separate yourself from blending TOO well with the song. It's a vocal cover, so to me, they should stand out more. No doubt his vocals are on point and they sound really good, just wish they were louder.
@@DaveScottBass I watched your covers and they are good. I understand your opinion but like sixfiction here, he just does it to how he feels comfortable with the way he runs his covers. I can't tell if your judging him based off of his voice or not.
Thanks for the kind words man. What I've said is only a critique/question about the way he mixes. Like I said before, dude has an awesome voice, better than mine for sure lol.
Hey Dave thanks for the thoughts. Few problems here, some songs can be butchered with EQ and de-centering so right away that kills any sort of balance in the mix. This leads to huge variations in how the song will sound on different devices, phone speakers will bring my voice out more, headphones will bury it more. In general though I am going for the closest thing I can get to a studio sound, as in, sounding like my voice is part of the song and not significantly higher than the instrumental. Sometimes my ear can be off, or if it sounds the same in all my vids then yes that is my mix style (for covers). Original music would be a whole different ball game as i can actually attempt to do things the right way. Btw I checked your channel for reference and I dig you voice dude. I actually have some good feedback for you on your high end because you remind me of myself in part of your technique. DM me on insta if you are interested
