The original full scale Fokker DVII wing is actually quite complicated. Other than the ribs between the Cabane struts, all of the ribs are different as they get thinner toward the tip. I understand for a plane like this the kit is better off being simpler construction so they will get completed.
The main reason Fokker airplanes are so popular is because of how the name sounds. The owners just love it when they hear people say, "Look at that little Fokker go!"
Retired ATC, it was always fun to tell a pilot to follow the Fokker, them have the pilot come back and say follow the MU-2 (Mitsubishi)? Cause the local pilot in the MU-2 was a pain in the…
My grandfather was a WW1 veteran . He served in France in the US Army Air Service. After the war they changed the name to the US Army Air Corps. He got kut in the mid 1920s. I used to have his original photo album but it got lost in some moves over the decades. One picture in particular meant a lot to me. It was a pic of him leaning on his Nieuport 28 fighter somewhere in France during the war. They make a full size replica of the Nieuport 28. Id love to build/ fly one.
Reminds me of a place I used to visit back in the 70's: The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in NY. It's still there and they have a web presence (They even have a museum now)
I know about ailerons and rudders and all that. I know about Bernolli's principal , I think I would be good as a beginner, I need lots of bravery first though.
Yes Bert! There are many viable, and cost-efficient camera and mounting options. In my meagre opinion, it may assist in taxi, take-off, landing. Hardly use it at all. Best! 👍🇺🇸🇨🇦👍
I know of the Fokker already though it was a German ww1 or 2 plane. My grandad was in WW2 stationed in Iwo Jima, and he loved meet the fokkers. He thought it was a funny movie, but yeah, If I ever get rich I'll start out with a little gyroplane.
fokker what? What did you call me? Lol did you guys see meet the fokkers? lol anyways, this is a great plane! lol it even has prop guns and stuff yuk yuk. But, really great job on showcasing the plane and I would love to learn how to fly one day.
Complete curiosity question here -- what is the benefit of building a replica at 80% scale? Is it really that big of a money saver when it's that close to full size? Or is it to get around some FAA rule or something?
I saw a different video where the owner of the company said they scaled down some models to reduce the weight of the aircraft to fit into the light sport craft category.
I just purchased a DR-1 from Robert. I asked him when I first contacted him regarding the less then 100% scales and his answer was due to the current "modern" engine options not being as big in "size" vs equal power like they were back in the day. So per say the 80% were better matched in relative size over all keeping things relative in scale.
Must be nice to have that kind of money to prepay $250,000 for your own funeral. I wouldn't call them fools, but what they did in a risky little sub was foolish.
Was going to build one of these, after bringing 3 ultralights home and never flying any of them, and them taking up a lot of space and being a hassle to move around, I switched to quadcopters. Fully aerobatic, fit in your hand, your backpack is your hanger, you can carry them anywhere including overseas (fly those Alps!), and best of all, they are fully aerobatic and your feet stay ont he ground, with your eyes up in the air. Crash all you want, no medical bills. Did I mention, about 1/5th the cost for a high end system? And a whole lot of work. You'll never finish building this. I'm not joking. You will never... finish... building... an airplane.
what is all that stuff? that's cheating! they had a compas on the floor then an altimeter and one other gauge I cant remember. airspeed maybe? and fuel gauge. some had oil pressure. but they definitely didn't have all that fancy stuff lol. but seriously its beautiful. great job.

Some of my favorite videos! So many unsung builders across the country! Thanks for the share

No, no. Them Fokkers were Messerschmidts.

I know what you are thinking.
I love ww1 aircraft and fell in love with this plane. AWSOME THANK YOU 🙏
80% you say? Wouldn't have guessed. Looks amazing!
Stunning aircraft well done
Very nice. Congratulations.
It’s my dream to build one of Robert’s airplanes. I’d love to build his Nieuport 28.
There is one of these at Murray Field in Eureka, CA
Great video.

I can hear the title music to "The Blue Max" in my head as i watch this.
Beautiful airplane. I’ve always been interested in building one of these.
Finish that Zenith first.
Let’s see it!!
May be good for a few months a year up there in the cold weather!
That is the coolest paint job though I've ever seen on a plane!
Absolutely true Robert always answers!
I’ve always wanted someone to provide a 80% Boeing Stearman kit. That would be awesome.
i'd say reach out to Robert Baslee, the owner of Airdrome Aeroplanes, and see if he would be willing to make a one off for ya.
Make this happen and take my money haha
Beautiful plane, nice paint scheme , just one question, Why 80%, why not do the 100% scale so it replicates the original?
I used to drive through Holden, MO on my way to work and back and never knew that there was a guy building WWI replica aircraft there.
Looks like fun! Would love to own a open cockpit biplane.
this is my idea of flying, just perfect.
ha ha dang actually sounds good ! , I want them set up with paintball guns ....
I would like to see more on the engine build.
Beautiful
Sweet!

Top de mais 🎉
That looks phenomenal 😮
He did an excellent job for sure.
Wow. autstanding! which plans did you use? what are full specs?
Stewart sells a linen colored glue in addition to the turquoise that works better for white and yellow top coats.
THIS is the very plane I would have built if I got into flying. I've been wanting an Aerodrome 80% Fokker D.VII for years.
great video
Love it -
Beautiful job! Do you have more information about Darrel Porter in Missouri who makes the propane/oxy machine gun simulators, please?
Excellent
Truly a bygone era old world charm freedom machine .
Cool video. I recognized a piece of footage I shot!
More than one!
500 lbs and 100hp has to be fun. I have a spare 1000cc BMW motorcycle engine from my 78 R100. 60hp, that might work too. Very interesting!! 8) --gary
I’m in Orange Beach,AL., what area in Alabama do you fly? If that’s ok to ask? Love this! I’d imagine that’s awesome fun right there. Beautiful plane
cool im found of the d3 myself :)
I see that behavior from Texan June bugs as well. You aren't kidding in the slightest
This guy is real brave though, and building alone would be a challenge. Very smart and brave. You need your horizon thing. Your altimeter.
I know about ailerons and rudders and all that. I know about Bernolli's principal , I think I would be good as a beginner, I need lots of bravery first though.
How aboot install a rear-view camera?
I’ve thought about it. I guess I could clamp it to the vertical fin?
Yes Bert! There are many viable, and cost-efficient camera and mounting options. In my meagre opinion, it may assist in taxi, take-off, landing. Hardly use it at all. Best! 👍🇺🇸🇨🇦👍
Sorry wasn't being sarcastic, my dad uses keels for our roof sometimes. AND IT WORKS!
Def have to do 5-color lozenge on this one. The best fighter of WWI. Specifically banned in Versailles Treaty.
How do i find websites to find kits?
Waay cool. Waay.
What a dream

This guy is smart
A VW engine and an 84” propeller don’t seem like an effective pairing.
EDIT…. Ohhhh it has a prop redrive 👍
Yes, 2 to 1 redrive
I want one... or maybe two.
For dogfights...
You know... ;)

No wire Strings on the Prop screws :I
🔴
pretty little fokker for sure :D
That would be an interesting project to have a Subaru 2019 2.0L engine in it. More horse power and faster.
A 25k plane. Reminds me of the fools that paid 250k each to take a death dive in the Titan.
Must be nice to have that kind of money to prepay $250,000 for your own funeral. I wouldn't call them fools, but what they did in a risky little sub was foolish.
oh no not junebugs flying against your windshield like while your flying? WAIT THEY CAN'T FLY THAT HIGH CAN THEY I THINK HE MEANS ON THE GROUND.
Rule # 1 of flying. Don't panic!
Want! And now put 9 microturbines instead of the radial!

Hey choppergirl, this is choppergirl, from 1 year in the future! You were blind then, now you can see again :-)
Why only 80% scale???
oh yeah keels will keep water out.
Why waste your time and make it 80%. Make it 100%
what is all that stuff? that's cheating! they had a compas on the floor then an altimeter and one other gauge I cant remember. airspeed maybe? and fuel gauge. some had oil pressure. but they definitely didn't have all that fancy stuff lol.

Freedom baby! But.....I'll stick to motorcycles. They're SO MUCH safer! 🤣
Ego. . .
It's here.
Not to be sad, but I want to have the life expectancy of a dog that big as I cannot be very long. Usually dogs that big don’t live 9 years nine or 10.
German engine for German replica
Roll Tide!
LOL,"designed to be unstable"
Yabut, how is a 1916 aircraft design “experimental”? Hmmm… Oh dear. 🇨🇦🇩🇪🇺🇸
All aircraft from that time were experiments. I don't think it could ever be certified. So it mostly checks out.
This is what happens when you start over regulating things... Taxes, taxes and MORE taxes, and bureaucratic nonsense.
All home built kit aircraft fall under the "experimental" category regardless of when they were built
