Love you, but I believe in teaching oneself and not always looking for someone to lead me or teach me when I can teach myself. I am transitioning into film producing and have two producers making me do everything, stuff I didn't want to do or thought I would do, and they make me do it on my own. They tell me to go out there and make a pilot, learn an editing program, etc. That's all they do, and I have to figure it out on my own. I've been picking up skills I never had. They have very little hands on. I think it's important not to engage in" learned helplessness". This is a term I learned in psychology class at my local community college. I love learning and motivating myself. I coached one person I know for fun and to test the waters. She enjoyed the process. I used the GROW method. In the end, she decided she could not overcome. It was her mindset. Anyway, I fundamentally think people can do things themselves and this culture is teaching folks they need a coach to hold them accountable. You hold yourself accountable when you realize you have failed. Again, I love you but let's teach folks to self-motivate. Self-motivation is a problem in America functioning under false belief they need to be led (happens on our jobs every day. The boss needs to teach you like you're some kind of idiot). As you can see, I'm done with that. Get out there, folks. You can do it. Just do it! Look for resources. Learn to read and write. Learn to talk. Put your big lady undies on.
You can NOT teach yourself something you don’t know. That’s why having a guide is the key. Maybe you like spending time trying to learn something instead of finding someone who can help expedite the process. But do what you like!
