    I think it is a really bad idea to get into this certification before the security+. You need the fundametals of security before thinking how to break any system.

      Are you sure I never did the network security plus and I've been doing pen testing on and off. I know it pretty well. If your new and brand new to it then yes, I would agree. Otherwise, no, you're incorrect depends on the skill level.

      for me security+ is:
      -1/3 of interesting information
      -1/3 very theoretical not interesting/boring not very useful inofrmation (access managment/risk managment)
      -1/3 information i already know
      I have buy book, and I really think that I dont need this cert as prerquisite for Pentest+.
      I think Security+ are for only very beginners in IT which want jump into cybersecurity field.

      I dont see why people say I learned it anyways I dont need the cert. When your talking about jobs that pay this much why wouldnt you just take the test. 500$ is lunch money for people who are talking about getting jobs that some of these higher certs will pay.

    Is there any reason to take the CEH rather than the PenTest+? CompTIA put out a whole list trying to argue the merits of their cert over the CEH, but obviously they're going to be biased. As I see it, though, it really does look like the CEH is crazy expensive while still being just an entry or intermediate level cert that may not boost your earnings that much, while the PenTest+ is much less expensive while providing a lot of the same things. The only selling point I can see for the CEH is that it fulfills the DoD 8570 requirement, while CompTIA is still waiting for DoD approval for the PenTest+ to do the same.

    • @livebythews
      @livebythews 5 лет назад +3

      If you want to get a job working for the gov in cssp positions, I would advise the CEH. if you truely learn all the objectives, it's also good, but other than that, the cert is lackluster for the cost.
      HOWEVER, the new 8570 certs include the comptia CySA+ as a fulfillment for all of the CEH required positions.
      CEH is a great HR attention grabber, other than that, there are way better technical certs.

    Does it provide practical training like ITV Pro like virtual machines if it doesn't then there's no point. Pen testing is practical experience generally.

    Hey I have a weird situation. I'm taking a course at my community College for free that deliberately prepares you for the CEH and I have the CEH book and ecouncil lab access. Yesterday comptia offered $50 to do their comptia pen+ beta test for $50. If I pass i get the cert. Of course I bought it cause you can't be any comptia test for 50 bucks. But question is do you think I can use the ceh as a study guide and course material that would prepare me for pen+? also I'm not trying to overwhelm myself cause I'm trying to get the entry splunk cert also. I scheduled the exam at home, far out as possible. End of June. I'll prolly end up rescheduling

    I want to start self teaching myself IT before I sign up for classes at community college. Where is a good place to start? I've heard people say to study A+, then progress to Network+ and Security+.
    I am also unsure what field I'd like to study in. My community college offers courses in Computer Network Support, Computer Programming, and Computer Systems Analysis

    • @mr.demiurge5700
      @mr.demiurge5700 5 лет назад +1

      Depends on what you want to do. If you're going to focus on programming, for example, there's probably no need for the A+.
      Try dipping your toe into each IT field that looks interesting with whatever resources you can find online. I wasted some time studying to be a software developer only to discover, after my first C++ class, that it wasn't what I wanted to do all day. On the other hand, I went into my network fundamentals class completely clueless about networking, only to discover it's actually something I find interesting and feel like I could get pretty good at. I wish I had reached those conclusions before I took classes related to them rather than after.

      Definitely figure out specifically what you want to do in IT because it can make a HUGE difference in the path you should take.

    • @jayem5807
      @jayem5807 5 лет назад +1

      I would try Computer Systems Analysis first, depending on the class description, it'll probably be a good stepping stone to both, especially networking. I took a class on Computer Systems Information Technology and got my A+. I'm now self studying for my Network+

    If I have very very limited Linux knowledge will Linux+ be good to get upto speed?
    I have Kali Linux and doing my CEH Exam in a month, I have Network+, Security+, A+ CERT and quite proficient in these skillsets but Linux is something I always pushed aside from a young age, I wish I took it seriously. Windows is still my preferred OS but, I know I need to make the switch soon. Merely installing an app in Linux is a complete pain to me.

    • @rockklimber24

      I'm on the same boat. I passed the security+ and sscp and I'm focusing on the pentest+ next and this time I know I actually need to learn hands on so I sucked it up and paid 200 bucks for the pentest+ labs from the CompTIA site. It guides you step by step through all the different tools and how to do stuff on their virtual boxes. Highly recommend. I'm going to try to go through the labs several times.. I'm not interested in simply passing the test because I really want to be a penetration tester and have the knowledge to actually do the job
