    General Rule: For the proper eye relief for most shooters and scopes, the back of the scope eyepiece will be inline with the rear of grip, just as you have it here. Some scopes have more generous eye relief than others, and some shooters prefer a more aggressive (closer to the action) cheek position, but for most this will be the correct position.

      @@KyloBedo- I’m a gunsmith, so I’ve mounted a lot of scopes. I always start with this position. Depending on the scope and the shooter, you may need to move a little further forward or rearward (maybe 1/4” or one space on a picatinny rail), but it will be very close to this initial position.

    I've always found that setting up on the "system" in a comfortable natural position with your eyes closed then open your eyes, you can then move the scope to the correct eye relief. This prevents unconsciously moving to compensate to the scope vs moving the scope to your natural cheek weld, position and sight picture.

    Always thought magnification mattered. When to shoot 1000 yards and didn't adjust the scope at all. Was too busy trying to adjust the moa / windage and hit the target. Didn't notice my scope was set to 6 power. Hit the target fine with that magnification.

    Do you plum the scope separately from the bore?.
    My most comfortable hold on the weapon results in a minor cant of the rifle so I adjust the scope on a plum line so the scope is level with gravity.

    I always end up using cantilever mounts. Using regular rings I can't get proper eye relief. I don't know why but even with my 6 dasher in a mdt acc chassis, regular rings I have to adjust the LOP all the way out and even then it's not correct.

  • @markthibault8579

    Great overview. I've found that when prone, I need my scope noticeably farther forward than when I'm in another position such as sitting, kneeling, standing. How do you set up the eye relief to be useful in all positions for PRS? Do you put it in a position that is a compromise, or is it biased towards the positions you use mostly in a PRS match?

    • @michaelturner6361
      @michaelturner6361 10 месяцев назад +1

      Set your eye relief in a tall standing position and you'll find it works great for everything except prone, where you may have to lengthen your LOP to increase your eye relief. Great if it's a prone only stage or zeroing, not ideal when you only need to get 2 shots off from prone.

    • @markthibault8579
      @markthibault8579 10 месяцев назад

      Same. Usually, the cheekrest is knocking my muffs askew. To that end, a chassis that allows you to move the cheekrest forward would be wonderful. Though, that adjustment axis doesn't seem that common in most designs.

    Sometimes your eye relief can change depending on thickness of clothing (summer-winter). Also would like to see you wearing ballistic shooting glasses when you are live firing, and also to double up on hearing protection (ear plugs and muffs). Please stress gun safety to your viewers. I did like to hear that your citizen militia stopped armed robbers with AK-47's that had just blown up an armored truck and killed the driver...so your well trained law abiding citizens armed with pistols killed 4 of the criminals...AWESOME! Much love from the USA where our right to keep and bear arms is still alive and needed!

    No offense, but you need to focus way more on utilizing proper eye protection, than you do proper eye relief. You’re setting a bad example for shooters who watch your videos and see you shooting without eye pro. Not good. Not good at all.
