timeless af, nobody was prepared for this when it was released. a fucking masterpiece
Not even Neon Indian, hasn't made a song this good since
@@UreksatheJade
He hasn’t made any music since then for some ungodly reason, dude had the world by the BALLS, 1.7 million views for a indie musician is INSANE and he just stopped making music
Too bad he disappeared
he released a banger album last year. la madrileña is the new slumlord don't snooze on this one too lmao
that synth intro still holds up after 200 listens.
Can confirm that it holds up after 350 as well
The Earrape at 0:01 ?

Best part of the whole album is that fleeting few seconds by far, never fails to throw grade A certified chills up my spine
I was not hooked on the first listen but after the following 100 I'm kind of getting into it.
99% of you won't see this... hey 1%
TomoMelon hey you

MASSIVE cinematography skills. There was some insanely long 1-cuts in this, wow. Amazing song too. 11/10
The whole concept of this song it's just awesome, it's not only a song, it's a experience, you can actually feel like you're in the video, and the song it's just perfect, a very original piece of electronic music with the seal of neon indian all over it. Bavo Neon Indian!

Have you seen the video they did for their song "Annie?"
This goes out to all the slumlords during the quarantine

I just randomly clicked this and am sold
The best music nowadays you have to give a chance.
me too, just clicked and BOOOOOM! Just love this!
I found this guy through GTAV. His song Change of Coast is the GTA Online theme
Same! Then listened to Polish Girl, then Era Extrana on RUclips a few times. Over a year later I'm a hardcore fan!
New House Production Studios me too!
The intro could be an entire song in itself. Absolutely kickass from top to bottom.

I meant "^" in as "I was wondering the same". Sorry for the confusion.
No jacket, the future dies because of people like you
So whats the fuckin name of the intro song
Alan Palomo
he is dad material.
this take me back to a sweet spot in my life. 20s, carefree, anxiety ridden, naive, dreamer, pothead. with a girl on my side. living together. sharing with friends with similar tastes. moving in the artsy scene. listening to trippy stuff like this. getting inspirations from every artists and genres and mediums. it was an era of exploration, of adulting too.
those times will never come back.
They’ll never come back with that attitude…never stop dreaming, believe in the moment ❤️
That beginning riff needs to be a song. COME ON
I've been trying to find out if it's from anything since this video came out
Tis da rizon song is a god
Wait what? I can't find it
It is... It's Slumlord.
im recording it and making it my ring tone in reverse *0_0*
One of the best introductions to any song in at least a decade. This guys deserves a prize or something.
and the end of the track O_o

Gimp and the briefcase
Music like this puts me in a jazzy type of mood, just bobbing my head, maybe ready for a party to start somewhere lol..dope music
this guy's really a true musician, GOD bless him. good.
The echoing voice during the italo disco track playing at 5:22 is that of a 1980s Italian DJ named Marzio Dance. Some clips of him DJing and speaking over tracks (as was often customary in Europe) are on RUclips. The track itself is: Xenon - Galaxi (1983)

The driver is no-doubt hinting at Kavinsky. The red attire, red glowing eyes with something over them shading them, the strength, the driving, that's totally Kavinsky.
Yeah but Kavinski doesnt allow girls to be hurt.
@Kevin Sch my man
Yea especially with the synth beat in the end, sounding like a transition for his song Protovision. And if you watch the music video for that song, he's running from the cops, so this video right here is the prequel to Protovision lol

ryan gosling needs to collab with Alan to make a badass video
It’s fucking INSANE how popular Neon Indian was in retrospect, for a Indie musician to have 1.7 million views for a music video just like that is insane, crazy how just decided to stop for so long he had so much momentum here.
Holy fuck I forgot how good this video was, HOLY FUCK
I wish he continued making songs. The band just dropped off the radar.
Can someone please tell me songs similar to this? I really liked this style
This video used to be banned in my country
In the middle of May
In the seconds of the very last shades of day
I see that nobodies kids anymore
Though we look that way from the 24th floor window
Cause it's easy to be the miser when no one's the wiser
Easy to shake down
Easy to glean the green from Bay Ridge to Queens
Easy to wear the crown
They say that this place ain't got a heart
Cause I could still hear the beat
And every night is oh-oh-oh-ah-oh, oh-oh-oh-ah-oh
From all the way down the street
It goes on and on and (as long as you got the money)
On and on and (as long as you got the money)
On and on and (as long as you got the money)
On and on and (Slumlord doesn't care)
Staying out of hallway and hold tight till Saturday
Cause you got the rent to pay
Dreams are shelling out next to none, with no Rubicon
Well honey, those days are done
Shelling out three G's, for four walls and keys
Hey, at least you can run the town
Shaking our pockets loose, but hey what's the use
I guess we're takin' it sitting down
They say that this place ain't got a heart
Cause I could still hear the beat
And every night is oh-oh-oh-ah-oh, oh-oh-oh-ah-oh
From all the way down the street
It goes on and on and (as long as you got the money)
On and on and (as long as you got the money)
On and on and (as long as you got the money)
On and on and (as long as you got the money)
It goes on and on and (but they want that money)
On and on and (they want that money-eh-eh-eh-ey)
On and on and (they want that money)
On and on and (they want that money-eh-eh-eh-ey)
Neon Indian is amazing!! big fan for 5 years now!!! beautiful music, amazing song 💚
10 years now
Amazing video, notice how everything seems to be taken in one continuous shot. He explained this in his Ted talks for a movie which I assume is an influences for this video. 10/10 song and video, keep doing it man. I and many if any friends support you 100%
I got a real Clockwork Orange vibe from the intro I love it
Alguien está viendo esto en abril del 2019.
A pesar del tiempo sigo amando esta rola. ❤🎸
The Spanish Fish enjoys this tune.
part italian ahahahahahah
la discoteca in una maniera diversa!
Wow! This is perfection in a music video, so many interesting nods to some of my favorite films and filmmakers loaded into this masterpiece. Not only that, but Neon Indian has long-time been one of my favorite artists because his music evokes such similar feelings of the likes of Gaspar Noe, Nicolas Winding Refn, PT Anderson, etc. This is just so beautiful. Intro reminds me of a toned down version of the intro to Enter The Void - the disorienting thumping beat, the fonts and colors. Opening two and a half minutes are completely Drive influenced, the Los Angeles nighttime cinematography is strikingly similar, the car at 1:53 is the same vehicle Driver (Ryan Gosling) drives. The entire club entrance is so reminiscent of Boogie Nights and a hint of Goodfellas with the tracking shot. The interior club scenes are so Nicolas Winding Refn its hard to believe its not him directing, it screams Only God Forgives. The last bit of the video reminds me of Hotline Miami (not a film, of course, but a game based on and heavily influenced by art-house films, specifically Drive) and Drive again, perhaps with some Oldboy influence (the tooth extraction with the wrench is definitely a nod to both films' disgustingly morbid but incredible scenes) I could go on and on in this comment with more references and similarities and how stunning both the story and visual aesthetic style is in this video, but I'm too blown away right now by this to even think.
+Dan Glanton Adderall's one hell of a drug.
+Dan Glanton You should check out "The Wraith" from 1986. The red rider definitely comes from that. There is also a little bit of Miami Vice and The Terminator in this video too. Nicholas Winding Refn was inspired by a lot of stuff like that. For 15 years I have been wanting someone to show a love for the 80's like what Tarantino has for the 70's. The past 5 or so years in pop culture have been delivering on that. Kung Fury anyone?
+Dan Glanton there are also references to fallen angels (the fisheye motorcycle ride at the end), and pulp fiction (the briefcase glow)
ok dis hard
Its an amazing homage 🎉
Its amazing, I really need the song time of time. It happens oooover too much!!

As someone who's been listening to Neon Indian since they released psychic chasms, meeting Alan at one of his shows, asking him about his side project at the time(VEGA), and remembering when his laptop got stolen with all the work for a new album he had on it...... I can't believe this video is at 1.7m views. Shits crazy to me.

That was a pretty good movie
it was a fun project, aka slumlord
+Rene Napoli :o !!
+Rene Napoli you are the man! :o
You are the guy of the bike & helmet!? cuz if that's right you are the man! :D
Dragore Fonseca, guy on bike is not me, I'm the Slumlord at end (see credits) hope you liked the video still :)
Rene Napoli well, even so you are great at the end, greetings!! :D
By the time I hit the play button, the song was already over. I think Neon Indian invented time travel or something.
Do anyone catch the subtle Michael Jackson's "Thriller" sample here? - Great tune, awesome video!
sim! total!
Where does he do that?
What manner of ear candy is this, and why is this just now appearing in my life in 2021?
so he finally starts listening to toro y moi. thank god. ive had it up to here with polish girl
you do realize the album is named after his other Alias "Vega" right? hence why the style on this album was reminiscent of the songs he made under that moniker.
haha, Derrick Beckles as one of the Electronic Murderers. I instantly wondered if he was supposed to be an LMFAO-type (and then the helmeted Daft Punk type kicks his ass)
Drive, and Enter The Void influence is very strong here
I agree, but watch the intro to Boogie Nights, the inspiration is obvious. That was also made before both Drive and Enter the void.
Good catch, you are totally right! Love PTA
OMG so true !
It's a healthy mixture of Drive and Boogie Nights (the intro)
are those song titles? i'd love to listen to the music that inspired this
Love the Video *-* !!!!
Not even sure I should tell you to skip to 1:00.
Must everything be a blood orgy? You're sooo avant-garde bro
i love when it suddelny turns into PANIC AT THE DISCO
Amazing best thing I have seen in years
would much rather hear this on the radio, rather than todays 'chart music'
that's not much of a compliment, a punch in the face is probably better than listening to today's chart music.

holy shit why didn't I ever bother to listen to them until now...that was incredible
Getting some serious Boogie Nights/Goodfellas vibes.
1987`s retro vintage euro disco style
sounds like Toro Y Moi
great song, great video, great album
someones a pt anderson fan
+SambaSunnySideUp All that was going through my head at the start. Tracking shot just screams Boogie Nights and the when the gangster left the car, just thought Burt Reynolds.
Obviously influenced by Jean-Luc Godard, PT Anderson, Robert Altman, Scorsese, Kubrick. Long steady cam shots rule.
Or a Scorsese fan, since the tracking shot in Boogie Nights was influenced by the tracking shot in Goodfellas
I think Nicolas Winding Refn more than paul thomas anderson
Because of Drive? The whole 1980s aesthetic existed long before Drive. The first half of this video is essentially a reworking of the opening scene of Boogie Nights.
Alan Palomo (Neon Indian) has expressed his love for Boogie Nights many times in the past and wrote an article on Paul Thomas Anderson. I definitely believe PTA is a bigger influence than Refn here.
Did 8:12 remind anyone of Tame Impala - Past Life?
ChrispyCremes now that you mention iy
a little bit
This is amazing. Neon Indian has only gotten better.
Now who can tell me how the fuck he's not more popular than Kanye West?
AndroidDoctorr shut the fuck up kanye is a genius. ppl in the comments have to realize what makes things popular. when i listen to flying lotus i dont get surprised that he's not on the rqdio but he has massive critical acclaim.

hotline miami i guess

@@ReneNapoliActorHey just saw this. You're slumlord? If, so awesome job! :)
Slumlord briefly appears in the music video "Annie". At the beginning of the episode, Slumlord is seen giving Annie a ride on his motorcycle. We don't get a good look at him, but the license plate on the motorcycle is unmistakable.
