Hamiltons' singing is what in part made this band so very purely unadulterated rock. Along with pretty much every other element that made this band what it was.Hamiltons use of oh -so beautifully dissonant chord choices, but most importantly, the staccato- style open air riffage, and when he chose NOT to play, created the tension of a hydrogen bomb when the next chord came, which all us TRUE fans just hung on and clung to. Stanier's closed mic'd better than a metronome, cut -right-through-the mix- style, perhaps some might say his snare sound on Betty as being the best snare sound ever recorded .Stanier rebuked, when I interviewed him after a Detroit Aftertaste Tour show "Just my snare, cranked up as high as it would go" Of course it didn't stop there if you knew what to listen for, Henry's bass tone and style were a perfect one-two punch and a perfect match for Stanier's frenetic playing. Add that all up with Page's rhythm for each song whether it be his use of feedback, jazz- infused chordal soloing, or use of panning. You get a band that, in my opinion, for four ground breaking albums, made true rock fans step back and think " holy shit, this one of a kind gem is going to spawn so many other wannabee weak assed spoon fed we can do that too!? bands...... and sadly, it did.
Saw them in this era open up for Korn... to this day remains one of the best surprise shows I’ve seen. Wish they’d never left the stage. Epic throw down.
Saw them in Dec 1994...great show. 2 songs into the encore, Page reaches down to high five someone in the crowd and gets pulled in. Then, there's a huge melee in front of the stage, security jumps into it, and then all goes quiet for a few minutes. Then, Page runs back onto the stage, runs up to the mic and says: "Well, that's it-see ya!!!"
Can't wait to see Helmet at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland in March 2015. I've seen these guys several times, and it's a damn shame that they got so little air play. Traveled to see them at Double Door in Chicago, got to see them at a $1.07 show for WMMS at the Odeon in Cleveland back in the 1990's. We slammed our way all the way up to the stage. Unbelievable guitar riffs, amazing band to see live. Page is a rock god. Love you baby!!!
Yeah, he was 37 during this show, and when Page rebooted Helmet he had to tune down due to the strain on his vocals, last drop D tune he did was with linkin park, he's still got it at 60 but its hard on him
Damn amazing. I remember jammin to this back in the day in the 90s definitely a band that should have took off in mainstream getting more recognition but they're still jammin n touring I heard wit SP
I saw the Betty 20 year reunion tour in 2015 and they actually sounded much better then they do here. Page was spot on with the vocals, he sounds weak here in comparison. They were tight, precise and loud as hell. They f-ing blew the doors off that club that night. Just awesome! Can't wait till next month to see them on their 30 year tour. Got to meet Page after the show. What a cool down to earth dude.
Seen them at the Metro in Chicago oh about 95 96. Melvins opened up for them.Anybody seen that one? It was by far one of the loudest shows I ever seen. And sounded great!
These guys were without my biggest inspiration! I booked the "Betty 20th anniversary tour" in Stockholm last year through my label Red Heifer Productions facebook.com/redheiferproductions One of the best nights ever! ruclips.net/video/CkwPs7aFof8/видео.html
Sorry mate! I was a little sloppy when i wrote done the description. It describes the original show from 1997, but this was the only thing i received from my friend who worked at the TV station during that time. With other words. This show never aired on swedish television..
Theres another source that contains the whole concert. Unfourtunately its audio only, but the sound quality is excellent. You can find it here: www.guitars101.com/forums/f145/helmet-1997-06-13-hultsfred-sweden-flac-fm-664349.html
It's not the style, it's just that he's not a great singer. Helmet was always about crunching riffs. And the 90s were the most forgiving to sloppy live performances.
what is the drummers name ? Stanier am i right ? i want to learn drums and fucking beat the shit out of my drums like he does. he's fucking awesome. HELMET IS FUCKING AWESOME !
I agree, he was one of my inspirations to learn drums. Very creative as a drummer as well. One of those drummers who aren't easily replaced. Cool style.
Rebecca Broughton yea but stanier had those mean ass blast trough every wall sound like he did in the song: I Know, Pure, Speechless, Tic, and many many more. Not that i don't like the new drummer, but staniers sound is unique. But it's Helmet so it'll always fucking rule anyways ;)
I know. I sent him this and he commented on it. This was also the time when i spoke to John Stanier after the show. He hit himself with his drumstick right over his left eye. He looked like he got punched in the face!
John Stanier .Fuck yes.
John Stanier is a MACHINE!!!
Peak Stanier. Beast.

Helmet is one of the best alternative rock bands of the 90s
Saw them in this era open up for Korn... to this day remains one of the best surprise shows I’ve seen. Wish they’d never left the stage. Epic throw down.
They also replaced KMFDM for the Ministry show. No complaints
Saw them open for Primus front row in Paramount pre 2000 ATL 😅 SICK
Stainer just incredible.
Helmet is so fucking dope. I love their music!
John is an absolute beast on those drums
I wish the 90's never ended..
I love drums and bass 💪💪👏👏
Helmet, wish I could have seen them live during this era....
Saw them in Dec 1994...great show. 2 songs into the encore, Page reaches down to high five someone in the crowd and gets pulled in. Bobby Ingals you can , theyre in tour rn
@@stevegarcia521 not the same members tho. They still kick ass I'll admit that, fortunately
@@DonnyBomb aww damn that sucks :(
John Stanier is unbelievable.
One of the best, hardest-working bands IMHO. Look at Chris go, havin fun.
HELMET the best inspiration of my life !!
This is Helmet at their ALL TIME BEST !
I couldn't agree more!
Best fucking rhythm duo for Mr. Hamilton.
yikes
this isnt rob echeverria or Peter Mengede on 2nd guitar...
nah their prime was 90-96

Helmet is back 2016 with a new album. Page Hamilton is the king of riffs still.
Real??? :'O
Helmet without John Stanier is like RHCP without Frusciante, or pancakes without maple syrup.
Holy Helmet🎸. This is a great clip. Pete M on the other guitar. That was the Real Helmet. Pagey Henry and John 🎸🔥
You know why he temporarily rejoined?
I think this is why they later started playing their songs in Drop C
Yeah, he was 37 during this show, and when Page rebooted Helmet he had to tune down due to the strain on his vocals, last drop D tune he did was with linkin park, he's still got it at 60 but its hard on him

they just come out and play hard, nice....
Saw them in 98 with the Melvins. Same lineup. Unreal!!
Kinda interesting how they use the Beetlejuice theme to open the show and then Page Hamilton goes on to date Winona Ryder a few years later!
Awesome quality video. What a terrific live band. Sound is terrific. Thanks for the upload!
Damn amazing. I remember jammin to this back in the day in the 90s definitely a band that should have took off in mainstream getting more recognition but they're still jammin n touring I heard wit SP
Sometimes it's better to stay out of the mainstream
This performance gives me a sense of the pure exhilaration the Band is probably feeling.
lots of great moments in this one stanier powers the show page is rocking out!!! In their prime!!!!
Beetle juice, Beetle juice, Beetle juice
Stainer looks like Shooter McGavin from Happy Gilmore in this vid lol. Great vid though, best band of the 90's. Great guys too.
Haha, John read that. Said "I find that false, because that guy has piercing blue eyes. And I'm not that old yet."
Disagree with best band of the 90s assertion.
The best band of the 90s was Type O Negative, also from NY.
However, I did see Helmet in Dec '94 at the Palace in Hollywood, and it was a great show.
Lmao he totally does used to think that all the time. Stanier is a fucking legend.
@Elijah Taylor It def is, Elijah Taylor. As you suggest, others are free to choose their own.
That ESP Horizon is iconic .
qyue pedazo de banda carajo!

Someone I know saw them around this time and they also said they were the loudest band they had ever seen. Must have turned it up to 11 back then.
I know someone who saw Helmet back then on the Korn tour supporting them and they said Helmet blew them off the stage.
I saw helmet this year I remember because its the only tour stanier uses a yellow drum set
That’s how I know too... looked for videos with that color drums. That’s the one thing that stick out when I saw them rip the shit up.
Che figata
amazing,exeletne

dont know who the other guitarist is but i love how hard he is jamming out, and his tone is sick as fuck
Chris Traynor
helmet its cool ,i remember the long time ,all right .
Good tune
That´s a very high hihat!
This drummer should teach lars how to drum.. That drumming is fucking awesome
This style of music gets truly exposed when played live with no vocal filters.
Crimson King It's kinda like complaining that your Ferrari doesn't haul groceries well. You might be missing the point.
It's not the style, it's just that he's not a great singer. Helmet was always about crunching riffs. And the 90s were the most forgiving to sloppy live performances.
Crying
I was there
Thankfully he sings better live now
Yeah his voice is pretty off here for most of the songs except maybe "its easy to get bored".
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 .... WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's me or Page is totally out of tune singing Unsung?
He is out of tune...
sounds like he couldn't hear his vocals.
Mengede and Echeverria were solid, but the stage presence of this guy makes him the best second guitarist that Helmet ever had.
+Vhaldemar90 nah hes a bit overkeen
Chris Traynor, current second guitar player for Bush
Get them tigers
HELMET HAS ALWAYS RULED 🥊
Greatest band ever, fuck all the rest.
what is the drummers name ?
Stanier am i right ? i want to learn drums and fucking beat the shit out of my drums like he does. he's fucking awesome. HELMET IS FUCKING AWESOME !
I agree, he was one of my inspirations to learn drums. Very creative as a drummer as well. One of those drummers who aren't easily replaced. Cool style.
halfpipefreak The current drummer of Helmet is not bad at all Kyle Stevenson on the Drums now for Helmet is a very good drummer.
Rebecca Broughton
hahahaha epic comment XD
in my case if every helmet song had a pussy i'd lick and fuck it everyday lol xd
Rebecca Broughton
in that case i'm in helmet :D
hahaha maybe a future member lolll
whos playing drums ???anybody?
John Stanier
Russia!!!!! ❤
Who's the guitar player on the left?
+Cody Beaumont He's a jumpy little guy!
Cody Beaumont Helmet is still the best band of all modern day times.
Chris Traynor
Yep, Page is very flat. Probably can't hear himself very well. No in-ear monitors back then?
28:26 nose
batteur puissant
5:08 FKN HLL
on Unsung poor Page is completely off key
lol who cares about singing anyways, it's rock !
Stop wasting.
Ha
This is great, but Hamilton's singing is really bad. Shit
I know. I sent him this and he commented on it. This was also the time when i spoke to John Stanier after the show. He hit himself with his drumstick right over his left eye. He looked like he got punched in the face!
His vocals were always terrible, and I say this as a long time fan.
helmet was all about them riffs....page wasnt great but wasnt terrible either.
He never was a very good singer. A lot of energy!!
Alejandro Romero what the fuck ? He actually is a perfect singer for the band! Pretty clear in his words and executions tf!
@@stevegarcia521 correct, would rather hear his vocals than any other actually. it works
