- 85 series Case International brake system repair. 885 model in particular, but I believe the brake system on this and some other series are all similar. I found an article on Red Power Magazine,
www.redpowermagazine.com/foru...
where I got the info, and I shot this video to
accompany it. Feel free to ask any questions.
UPDATE
This worked like a champ. Once everything was back together I bled the brakes with a harbor freight brake bleeder and now I've got brakes again.
If you've ever wondered if creating a video like this one makes any difference. It does. My 685 with only 2,100 hrs lost ALL braking over the past winter. I tried several solutions - none worked until I spotted your video. To be sure, removing and replacing this reservoir is no small task. There is almost no clearance for hands or tools under the dash. I ended up removing the hood and the battery box just to gain access. The 'return' line stand pipe was out of the reservoir by 3/8 - to 1/2". Further, one of the small brake cylinder standpipes was out about 1/8". I super glued all of them back in after a clean up. Reinstalled, bled brakes following CASE instructions - got the best brake pedal I've ever had with this tractor. Thank you for your effort.
That's why I started doing it. I had such a hard time figuring things out on my own with the whole farm start-up, I figured folks out there could use some hard-earned wisdom. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you so much! I have been struggling with a freakish brake bleed malfunction problem. This would seem to explain it all thought I have an older version of the reservoir on a 784. I cant wait to check this out in the morning!
Thank you! I lost all brakes on my Case IH 895xl. Took it apart to day, and indeed the steel pipes had slid down on both return and pressure side. Thank you from Norway!
You're absolutely right no info on this at all, even in the maintenance manual there is a blank on the brake system, thank you so much from Cornwall England
Thank you sooooo much for this great video. I followed your instructions and got the brakes working on our Case International 885. Everything was exactly as you described. Thanks from Ireland.
Thanks very much for the video.
I’ve owned an 885 for 25+ years and never knew that
Found your video today. I wanted to say thank you for it. You help us out with are 695. Once again thank you very much I hope you and your family doing well.
Merry Christmas
Just had today a local Case dealer on the phone and he told me exact the same what I have with my case tractor. Many thanks for visualizing this before I take it apart. 👌
Thanks much. Hey, it makes the job a whole lot easier if you go ahead and take out the battery tray.
@@bignatehobbyfarm I have a Case IH 5140, the battery tray is just under the cabin on the front 😀
That is what I'm gonna try on my 895. It had good brakes at first then over a few years it gets to none at all. Thanks for the good video
Thanks, from Cornwall UK
Thank you !! first time it was ever shown properly really appreciate it.
I want to say thank you for doing this video, I had the same problem and with your video I now have plenty of brake now, thank you again
You, sir are the finest of men! Cannot say thank you enough for your creating this video.
Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! I’ve struggled with this for days and couldn’t understand the issues with the tank draining. Your the man, great video and you saved me from going nuts. If you get to Arkansas I owe you a six pack. Bob!
I'll hit you up on that some time

Good deal
ahhh man i have one like thet one in south mexico i did exactly as you instructed in this video and i saved my self 400 usd un servic tech
thanks alot
Thanks for the video. Working on 584 brakes.
It might be easier to do the whole thing if you pull out the battery tray. I need to replace all the rubber lines on the reservoir, and I'm going to go that route.
I had the same problem with my Maxxum 5130 caseih good lesson for all of us
THANK YOU for this video. Our CASE IH 685 is having the same issue - this gives us a place to start.
Hope it helps. Very rarely do the seals inside the axle brake assembly fail, so 9 out of 10 problems you will have involve all that mess down there below the steering wheel assembly. Then bleeding the brakes of course, but that's fairly simple.
Mine was a case 380b tractor loader.
Had the same issue on our state tractor case ih 585
How far back in should it be pushed? The metal pipes to the reservoir
The metal tube should be flush with the bottom edge of the plastic nipple
Thank you very much for your reply
Which line is the drain line that’s referenced in the article you linked?
The fat line is the drain line.
@@bignatehobbyfarm awesome thank you for the quick reply
