    In the day I grew up on a Ts 90.. I raced a TM 100 and in 1975 I had the formitable RM 125 s....
    I never got over my lust for the KX400 back then. I still want one.
    And a Montesa , and a Maico and a Hodaka... Haha. So many bikes to love !

    I have a tip for you guys racing air cooled bikes. Don’t start the motor until the 30 second board has been up for about 10 seconds. The cooler engine temp will be worth a few HP for the run down to the first turn. About 1/2 way through the first lap you will feel the motor become less snappy as it reaches full operating temp.

    • @1hardcorebiker1
      @1hardcorebiker1 5 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely love the comment! I've preached the same technique to countless riders, including those on my MX team, one of which is an AMA #1 plate holder.
      This engine temperature affect of power production holds true with modern bikes as well. I insist the bikes not be started too early. Perfect timing is when the gate drops just seconds after a modern bike reaches operating temp and systems go open loop.
      It's hilarious and so foolish when dudes sit on the line reving the piss out of a modern 4 stroke till its boiling over. Finally when the gate drops they're way down on power.
      Good call man. Glad to see someone else who actually gets it.

    The narrow monoshock YZ's were heaven on earth in the late 70's compared to a twin shock bike. I had a 79 zy125 and a 78 Husqvarna CR250 at the same time. I could not stand to ride the Husky any more so I sold it.

    Thanks Ken for the off bike visual. If I haven’t gotten punted off the track by one of those Evo 3 bikes mixed in at the start the Evo 1 / 1977 bultaco pursang 250 would have been up front with the pack as proven in the 2nd moto. #203 💪 OA / P1 🏁

    Back in the 70's when I was racing Dave Richards had a Rokon 250. He always got hole shots. Had the leap of a snowmobile compared to the CR's which weren't great out of the hole and the RM's and YZ's just couldn't get through the gears fast enough to catch him. He got passed down the track. Bombardier. Just one gear. I rode a 76 YZ125.

    • @charlesshort4287
      @charlesshort4287 6 месяцев назад

      I said the same thing about the head being DG, nothing wrong with it, that line up had some nice bikes, and a lot of time and a lot of fun for sure making them all look new again, and for some one who got to ride/race these bikes when they were new, it's makes my day to see one every time, much less to see a whole line up ready to race on the gate, I will be in Birmingham next week for the race, I missed Daytona this year, I have spent my whole life riding/racing and there's not to many other things I would rather be doing, the old 2 strokes of any make , it don't matter, big bore air cooled even better, I started out on a 74 TM100 , in 1975, and to day 94/01 CR250, & 81YZ465, all my son's bikes now, there is nothing better than a few laps on a track,
