I am retired, but like to watch DIY videos just in case if I every look for contract work or part time work if needed. Thanks for the sample class on jewelry. Very helpful!!
Wow! Lindsay ... very well done. Some RUclipsrs produce videos that have the facade of instruction but are really just self aggrandizement. They are talented like you but do not teach much. By contrast, you taught me something today and I really appreciate it. Thanks!
I really liked this VFlat technique, because it allows in a small study to be alternative to the background getting a new effect. Thank you Lindsay for your precious help.
I have been on the fence for awhile in regards to purchasing V-flats, but after seeing these images and how simple they are to use I am sold! Thanks for sharing Lindsay!
I love this video it is so very useful and especially with you showing the setup and the changes you are making and why and the results. The only thing i may of preferred if anything is knowing the camera settings you were using at the time and possibly the power setting of the light.
Thanks Lindsay. Such simple techniques to create a range of portraits with a completely different feel. Love the tip about collapsible V-flats too. Beautiful images as always.
Lindsay, thank you for this video!! I purchased v-flats recently, but have not utilized them like this, yet. Now I know how to use them, and they are perfect for my small studio space.
Just Love Lindsay, very wonderful energy and a very good trainer. Am taking her training on CreativeLive really wonderful trainer. Thanks a lot Lindsay. Much Love from Nigeria 🇳🇬
I've shot similar to the first set up before, but that third one is amazing (so is the model) Shooting in a smaller space, I need set ups like these to create
Thanks for the info, it's more a refresher as I've been using V-Flats since the '90 bouncing light into them for a different effect. Still nice to see the newer v-flats, will have to investigate and purchase.
Thank you Lindsay for this beautiful tutorial. I remember seeing the end result on Instagram. You're my favorite photographer. Blessings to you and your amazing team.
Always to the point and informative, love it! I use v flats ALL the time, and first 2 setups are what I usually do, will definitely try 3 one, to bounce it got the high key effect. Exited! You are always an inspiration to me ❤️
It was great meeting you at WPPI this year; as always I enjoy watching your videos always informative. Regarding DYI, I made a mini V-flat for table top photography and it came out ok, but regarding these v-flats, I think I will stick to the spanish proverb, "when its cheap its expensive". So I will just go ahead and order one to try it out. Thanks again for your video.
Wow, you got a new subscriber here! Really cool & informative... I think I’m gonna make my own mini v-flats & try this out with product fotografía! Thanks again! Love the inspiration
Your black and white shot is so beautiful, could you please share how you achieve that chromy looking skin. I have been trying to get that effect with little success, many thanks for your wonderful teaching.
Thank you so much for sharing. The only downside is that now I want to purchase two more V-Flats! LOL. Looking forward to experiment with negative fill!
This is great! I have a question about which stand/boom you are using for the main light? My current stand doesn't work well with my umbrella, but I can't figure out which stand to get for my profoto b1x lights and would love to hear from you which one is in this video 😊
hmmm.. why doesn't your stand work well for your umbrella? Not strong enough? If you check learnwithlindsay.com I have a gear section. I believe the boom arm is the avenger D600 telescoping arm.
@@lindsayadlerphotoPhotography it is strong enough, but the type of stand is a pole, I believe it's a Manfrotto something with a sliding attachment for my light, so the umbrella gets "caught" by it. It works amazing for my beauty dish, just not the umbrella. Plus I love that it has wheels :)
@@lindsayadlerphoto Also, you don't list the stand on your website ;) (Unless I am somehow blind - which is possible.) Thank you for the information though! I will look into it :)
Thanks Lindsay, Shot#2 Not sure about having the VFlat on the opposite side of the model (unless small studio space would reflect the light bk onto shadow side of face. ) You have the umbrella 'flagged" by the other VFlat should be enough. Also, in your sample image, you see the V flat edge on the side. Just my op.
Thank you so much! I believe it's a c-stand from Impact. I don't recall if we used a counter weight on it or not but generally no. The lights and modifiers are not that heavy that it's required.
@@cashino I personally think they are totally worth it. One time I tried ordering full size v-flats from another company and it legit cost more to ship them than the actual product! The ones I share in this video have FREE shipping... so that def helps.
@@lindsayadlerphoto Wow I am in the middle of watching your 'Creative In-Camera Techniques with Lindsay Adler' halfway in :-) Back to the subject, yes a nice to have foldable ones and good to hear about free shipping. I have a gear folder on youtube so it will go in there till my lotto numbers come up. Back to your B&H vid :-)
They are definitely worth the cost, though, if it is something out of your current budget you can try and build your own. They will probably not last as long, but at least you can use these until you get enough clients and save up for them. ruclips.net/video/w3nCRhUl6D8/видео.html
Sometimes Ai think there are people who go around the internet and thumbs down every video they come across. There isn't a single thing wrong with the production or information of this video. No reason to be petulant
I'm sure you can make your own... but it's a pain to be honest and the quality and construction don't come out the same. I had a discussion with the company (v-flat world) about how they compete with DIY versions of a v-flat. They pretty much said they built one themselves with DIY material and that the cost was nearly identical to their manufactured version. The nice thing about buying something like this is the construction, quality and support. You don't really get "support" if your homemade version breaks. Also the thickness of the v-flats from that company you can't get anywhere else either. You're basically paying for all of the R&D they did and knowing that you don't have to be bothered with spending time putting something together. I've done the DIY route, painting giant pieces of foam core and it comes out subpar. This is a quality product therefore you pay a premium, but totally worth it! Hope that helps! :)

Lindsay,
Those flats from B and H are hugely expensive. Do you use any other type of v-flats or can you make your own?
I'm sure you can make your own... but it's a pain to be honest and the quality and construction don't come out the same. I had a discussion with the company (v-flat world) about how they compete with DIY versions of a v-flat. I should also mention that a lot of the cost has to do with shipping.
Making them is super easy. You just tape boards together the right way. There are guides all over the internet.
Lindsey, how do you blow out your highlights , like you say in some of your videos?
It just means overexpose
@@lindsayadlerphoto Thanks Lindsey. Tom
Lindsay, do you worry about the vertical join line in the v flat or do you ignore it and photoshop it out later.
Hi Lindsay - Quick question, do you think with lower 7 foot ceilings this would still work?
Yes! These ones are more compact! These are only about 6ft. :D
Greetings, nice video you have got in here.
