Oh my goodness, thank you so much for this video! I started using builder gel with peel base and the first nail I went to pop off took forever and I thought I was doing something wrong but this makes me feel so much better!
Because of you I bought everything for builder gel and tried it for the first time. The only tricky part really is working with the nail forms cuz I had no length but I only need it for the first time while I let the length of my natural nail grow out so it was definitely worth it. I gotta try the gel top under the peel base trick next time! This was a great video!!
Thank you so much for this video! I’m trying to get the hang of builder gel and peel base. Clear dip would always lift when I popped dip off from the peel base.
Thank you. I have been on the fence about the builder gel and peel base to cut down on acetone exposure. Plus I love the idea of changing my colors every few days vs two or more weeks. Have you tried any other builder gels?
Thank you for the thorough video: I’m still trying to figure bout my home fix for thin nails so this was very educational. One question: could you address how you treat the free edge during application? Specifically, do you wrap the tip with the protein bond, base gel, builder gel and peel base? Thanks so much!!
I personally don’t wrap the tip because I don’t experience lifting at the tip or sides. But if you notice you have issues in those areas; definitely cap them with all of those
Really want to start builder gel and peel base! Just have to get over my fears and take the plunge, but we’ll see if this happens 😂 this video is so so helpful and informative, thank you so much!!
This was great. I do have a few questions. How long do your nails last with this method (any issues with them popping off between dips when you don’t want them to)? Do you have to clean your builder gel brush or do you just leave it as is since it’s in the self contained lid? Last, how often are you removing your builder gel completely and doing a whole new set? Thanks for a great and informative video!
Sara Anderson yes - so if I do 2 full layers of peel base, I risk them popping off or chipping easier. If I want a mani to last a full week, 1 full layer is good enough for me. 2. I do clean my brush. I take a lint free wipe or paper towel and put some rubbing alcohol on it. Then I gently wipe my brush on the paper towel to clean each side of the brush. I only wipe once per side. I don’t need all of the BG off, just the excess. 3. Almost never. I’ve only removed it completely 2x since May. 😅 I find that doing fills are soo easy and not time consuming at all. If I want an entire BG refresh, once a month starting from new isn’t bad at all.
hi carole you post / make such informative videos love them all. question... when you apply gel base coat BEFORE PEEL BASE after curing do you wipe off the tacky layer of the gel base then proceed with applying the peel base
This was so helpful, thank you! My TD BG is on its way to me and I’m trying to fully educate myself before my first attempt.. 😅 Question: If I were to switch my mani every week or so, would I have to fill growth each time? Or is it ok to dip over small amounts of growth until you get a couple weeks in?
Fill in growth as you feel is needed. 💞 our nails grow at different rates so I may need a fill more frequently than someone else because I feel mine grow fast. I do fills every 2 weeks.
Just found this super great video! Thank you. My nails are thin and I want to protect them. My question is: can I use the BG from triple d in the bottle with same results? Same technique?

This video is amazing and so helpful. Do you think the builder gel in a cup works just as good as builder gel in a bottle? Also, have you tried other builder gels? If so, what's your favorite one?
I’ve tried a handful of builder gels, both in a pot and bottle. I prefer jar for the most part, but I have fallen in love with Kimberz Kreations and Dipalicious Nails builders in a bottle! They’re sooo clear, great quality, great strength, and the bottles are soo incredible.
so did you apply the builder to natural nails or did you have tips on already? i need like a full video with from natural nail to completed nail. i’m new to all this so i want to make sure i’m doing it all in the correct order.
Super helpful video! I’m just about to use builder gel to build onto my nubbies using a form. This is only my 3rd try. I used Triple D the 1st time and loved it. I used IBD hard builder gel the 2nd time and found it more difficult b/c it wasn’t really self leveling. I am about to try my 3rd builder gel which is NYK1. I don’t have their base gel or top so I’m using Triple D’s (hopefully that won’t be a problem). I was wondering if you prefer self leveling builders for creating length, or harder gels? And is Triple D your fave builder? Any video on this topic of building long nails using forms or otherwise? I’m on Marla’s Mani Fam FB group (I’m Rula Shin) so I subbed after seeing some of your amazing nail art pics there! You’re very talented!

Carole Annette Thank you so much for responding to my question and for providing the link! I’ll definitely be watching your channel, looking forward to what’s coming next :-)
I really enjoyed the video. I have been thinking about using builder gel. However, I am curios if builder gel will assist with nail growth and strengthening them?
Yes!!! Since I don’t remove my builder gel, just so fills, my nails aren’t prone to breaking and don’t lift like they would with dip powder! My nails are the longest they have ever been!
Carole thank you so much for the step-by-step. I've been using peel base and can't get it quite right (they won't come off neatly), so I will try your methods. One question: what brand bond do you recommend? There are many and they really vary in price. Do you prefer the non-acid? Thank you!
Hello again @CarolAnnette! I hope I’m not asking too many questions! I just got my OG Dips BG and a LED/UV lamp to do my first attempt. However I did not get any protein bond or gel base! I do have Mia’s Secret Protein base on order but did not not buy the Gel Base coat to use under the BG. Finally my question, can I use another brand of dip liquid called “Bond” in place of the gel base coat? If not, can I use a dip base coat under the first layer of BG? I never have lifting problems from any brand of liquids and dips. My cuticles are not oily, quite the opposite actually. Do you think it would be okay to skip the Mia’s Secret step AND the gel base step? I’ve watched so many “how to use BG” videos my mind is spinning 😵💫 on the sequence of products to use! Thanks for any guidance you can offer! P.S. I also intend to use a dip liquids top coat, not any gel top coat. So after the BG final layer, I THINK I’m not suppose to wipe off the tacky layer of IF I’m using dip powder right after? I would just use dip base coat and the dip? Do you see how confused I am?! Sorry!
Hi Carol! So dip liquids cannot be used to apply the builder gel. You may experience lifting, popping off, etc… If you were to try to do this process without bond and gel base, don’t replace them with the dip liquids. Just leave them out. After it’s all cured, yes, wipe the tacky layer off with rubbing alcohol and a lint free wipe. Then you will be able to dip right over the top ☺️
AMAZING!! So much good information for a first time user! I still have a question, if I wipe the tacky layer off of the BG and want to do gel method tomorrow with the peel base, do I need to do gel top coat first before peel base?
I’ve never used the OPI bond, so I’m not entirely sure. If they claim that it’s to prevent lifting and ensure longevity and maximum adhesion of gel and acrylic products. - then yes!
I don't understand whether or not to cure the peel base? I got Shayenne Peel Off Base Coat, and on the side it says UV/LED Gel Polish. What do you think? In the video you say "When it's time to..." & "Make sure the peel base is dry" - does yours dry or get cured? 😅
Hey! Most peel bases on the market are air dry. (The one I use is air dry as well). You may encounter peel bases that require a UV light to dry, so if you do use one of those, it won’t dry on its own.
If I don’t use peel base, do I just put gel top coat on if I have to file? No base coat? Also, if I choose not to use peel base, do I have to file off powder to remove and change color?
during your first application, I believe you used a gel top coat prior to peel base. Do you apply top coat again prior to peel base on your fill? I didn't notice.
The gel top coat prior to peel base is totally optional. I think the glossy surface of the wiped builder gel or gel top coat helps the peel base remove easier.
Hi. In my other post I shared that I had a reaction from gel top coat ...I think. But perhaps the builder gel flooded my cuticle. Hmm. Would that cause red swollen cuticles for 2 weeks now? I guess it makes sense if it got under my cuticle by mistake and then hardened when curing since I was ok before?
If you’re sensitive to gel products, definitely ! That’s why I had to cut my thumbnail so short. The gel has seeped under my nail and down my cuticle area; affecting my skin on my thumb more than any other nail.
@@CaroleAnnette omg and I know we are careful. I'm trying to get use to putting it on with my knuckles facing me so it can't run down but I think I was using my finger rest so it shouldn't have run down...but anything can happen when we run around during the holidays. Ok... thanks! I just had to redo 2 nails and they feel good so far.
@@CaroleAnnette Hi, this morning I've been looking close to the affected nails, and I agree I must have allowed the gel to flood a few cuticles. Big lesson learned the hard way. This really smarts. Now that I think about the pain, it kind of feels the same as a sliver. I thought that I saw cuticle skin growing out and didn't want to bother it cause it was so irritated...but it's builder gel. Feels better after I gently removed it. Hopefully I found the culprit. Thank you! I must have done it on more than one finger.... like 4 are irritated but not as much as this one where I removed it. I efiled gently on the others. Going to leave my nails alone a couple more days to allow cuticles to heal. I've used builder gel for so long... months... can't believe I did that. Grr.
No, you don’t have to do it with clear dip. And if you’re asking about the teal mani, it’s not a decal. I stamped it on :) ruclips.net/video/i7AgtAszpbc/видео.html
The base gel you use before using the builder- can it be any gel base? Like the opi one? Can you use builder without the gel base and just go to the application after the bonding primer?
Yes, you can use any gel base you have on hand. You can use the BG without the gel base, however, it’s prone to lift if it doesn’t have the base to adhere to.
So I don’t have a light and I just want to use a peel base and use dip powder method. Will this still peel off well without a builder gel? Did you say use a top coat after peel base but before dip base?
Is the builder gel hard gel? If so you can’t do the soak off method correct? You have to file down the builder gel after soaking off the soak off gel color or dip color right?
Hi, I am doing a coat of gel top coat over my BG and my PB is adhering to the BG when I try to remove it. I even tried putting base coat and 2 layers TC over the BG before putting the PB. I do let the PB dry. I have tried 1-3 coats same issue. BUT I have been using clear dip powder after the PB. I didn't realize I could eliminate this step. :) Do you think that is why I have an issue? I cannot get the dip to pop off and my nails keep getting damaged. I do file and use cuticle oil. Please help! The PB is unt. Thank you! Marley
When you say put on top coat before peel base for regular dip powder users - do you mean apply a UV gel top coat to the nail, or do you mean a regular polish top coat? Thank you!
I’m not sure about that line of powders from KS, as I’ve never tried them. But French pinks, nudes, clears are typically known for base colors under other dip powders.
@@CaroleAnnette thank you, and I have another question! I like to change my mani weekly, but don’t need a fill weekly, nor have time for it, is it ok to redo a mani (dip, gel, regular polish) in between fills? Technically there is a little natural nail there...I wasn’t sure what I should do!!!!
Is builder gel used over tips? Or do you use builder gel to build tips the builder gel is the tips itself? Can you use the peel base without builder gel?
@@CaroleAnnette that's the 1 i have...but haven't tried it yet. Peel base and i are on speaking terms now...thanks to the gel topcoat trick. I have Sparkle & Co peel base too. But it didnt work the last time i used it
Do you use peel base with gel liquids? I used to use it with dip liquids and it worked great, but ever since I switched to gel liquids I cannot get peel base to work 😒
I’ve done it a few times and it works great for me, both under gel polish manis and gel method manis. How many layers of peel base do you do and what brand peel base do you use?
I'm using UNT. I've done 2 full coats and 2 full with a strip down the middle. When I used dip liquids I would do 2 coats avoiding the cuticle and edges and it worked amazing but I cannot get it to break loose when using gel.
Omg your gel really loves it! Wow! Have you tried a gel peel base? One that you can cure prior to applying gel? I have on from Nail Addict LA. I’m just throwing out options because if UNT can’t do it, idk what other non gel peel base that can.
When trying to apply pro base it is all goopy on my nail from the peel base that is on the nail. I do let it fully dry and it still happens. What am I doing wrong?
Revel pro base. And sorry I wasn’t very clear. The peel base is all goopy as soon as I got paint on the pod base before I dip. Almost like is becomes a liquid again and makes my brush all goopy.
Man, I wish I'd found this before I killed my cuticles and nails removing dip powder! 😮🤣 I noticed that Nail Addict has a different name now. Isn't the same product?
You can also mix the dip powder with the builder gel! The acrylic from the dip powder turns the gel into a polygel-like consistency and applies like polygel! I love doing this with pretty glitters like sparkle&co. Less time, less steps, and for me less extra bulk on the nails :)

Do you know if Triple Vitamin Keratin Bond is the same or similar to Young Nails Protein Bond?
I know that it is not. Their Keratin Bond is designed for their dipping system, I’ve used it before and it definitely didn’t help me with lifting
during your first application, I believe you used a gel top coat prior to peel base.
Grr.
Omg yes! That’s exactly how it feels and looks when I realized there was gel under there and had to remove it so my skin could properly heal.
@@CaroleAnnette I've been spraying Bactine on it. It's nice and cool and disinfects the area.
Do you use top coat after the builder gel fill when you do a fill, like you do after the full apply?
Yes! I absolutely recommend using a gel top coat after you’re done doing the fill.
Question...do you still need to build an apex with clear dip if you use builder gel?
Also where did you that that cute nail decal?
No, you don’t have to do it with clear dip.
And if you’re asking about the teal mani, it’s not a decal. I stamped it on :)

It definitely will work without builder gel.
I have a video on this exact method but using dip powder only, no gel.
Do you have to apply anything to the builder gel before the unt? If I’ve worn it a day and already removed the sticky? Thx
No 🥰 I just cleanse the nails to ensure there’s no dust or oils
What about the peel base can you use the peel base on the naked nail with tips?
Is the builder gel hard gel? If so you can’t do the soak off method correct? You have to file down the builder gel after soaking off the soak off gel color or dip color right?
This brand is a soft gel, it does soak off.
Thank You! I’m going to go buy some ☺️
Hi, I am doing a coat of gel top coat over my BG and my PB is adhering to the BG when I try to remove it.
Thank you!
Yes, UV gel top coat
Are there any powders that work as well as builder gel under dip that protect your nails?
Would Kiara Sky All in one work to protect nails?
I’m not sure about that line of powders from KS, as I’ve never tried them.
But French pinks, nudes, clears are typically known for base colors under other dip powders.
How do you clean your brush after using the builder gel? Acetone?
Rubbing alcohol and a small wipe. :)
@@CaroleAnnette Thanks for the quick reply!
Hi... if I buffed builder gel and can't use top coat right now what would you suggest I do for shiny coat before peel base?
I think applying a dip powder top coat will do.
Just make sure you apply activator first.
@@CaroleAnnette thank you
@@CaroleAnnette I don't know why my brain is thinking this but I wonder if a regular nail polish top coat would work.
@@CaroleAnnette I may try that first. I'll let you know which way works out. Thanks for answering so fast! Happy holidays!
At what point do you cuticle care? Before the fill?
Yes!
Make sure you cleanse everything very well before the fill, because cuticle removers can cause lifting
Yep! I do fills usually about every 2 weeks, unless I noticed ridiculous growth.
@@CaroleAnnette but is it ok to dip etc in between?
Yes it is :)
Quick question for you I was wondering what dip liquids you used in this video?
Triple D 🥰
Is builder gel used over tips? Or do you use builder gel to build tips the builder gel is the tips itself? Can you use the peel base without builder gel?
what nail lamp do you use?
Have you ever used gel peel base..?? I have some but have yet to try it.
Yes I have. I’ve used Nail Addict LA gel peel base. It wasn’t my favorite but it worked!
@@CaroleAnnette that's the 1 i have...but haven't tried it yet. Peel base and i are on speaking terms now...thanks to the gel topcoat trick. I have Sparkle & Co peel base too. But it didnt work the last time i used it
If I didn’t want to use peel base would I still have to do the layer of gel top coat prior to dipping?
Not at all. 💕
I didn't know that existed, I might have to give it a try. Thanks!
Great video thank you
What is gel base? Is it regular gel base you would use with color?
Yes, a regular gel polish base coat :)
@@CaroleAnnette Thank you😊
Have you used the gel method with dip powder?
Yes I have. ruclips.net/video/6uyP5-KGhpU/видео.html
@@CaroleAnnette Thank you😊
Question- why do you put a layer of gel base before the builder gel?
I helps with lifting and helps the builder gel stick to the nail better
@@CaroleAnnette Thank you!!
I love watching you apply builder gel! weird? lol
🤣🤣🤣 not really cuz I watch your videos too!
How many weeks does a clear powder based manicure last you?
Clear dip powder isn’t my friend 😢😢 it doesn’t last long and lifts. I prefer clear builder gel because of this.
@@CaroleAnnette got it. Thanks!
Omg you rock 🙌
I missed the top coat after BG.... So my peel base is.... NOT PEELING!! I wish I had seen your video first!! :)
When trying to apply pro base it is all goopy on my nail from the peel base that is on the nail. I do let it fully dry and it still happens. What am I doing wrong?
what brand dip base are you using?
Revel pro base. And sorry I wasn’t very clear. The peel base is all goopy as soon as I got paint on the pod base before I dip. Almost like is becomes a liquid again and makes my brush all goopy.
And I use the same peel base you use in ur video
Also... your nails are getting so long!! 😻
Thank you!! I just filed them back cuz 😅😅😅 it’s starting to bother me
Why do you use top coat the peel base
Top coat before the peel base? Or just in general?
@@CaroleAnnette top coat before peel base
Man, I wish I'd found this before I killed my cuticles and nails removing dip powder! 😮🤣
I noticed that Nail Addict has a different name now. Isn't the same product?
Yes, same product :) they just re-branded
@@CaroleAnnette
Thanks so much!
BTW, your videos are great! Your style is very welcoming and accepting.
