A lot of the comments are suggesting it was a clutch delay valve that was causing the slipping clutch but we have an AP1 so there is no delay valve, sadly it was the stock clutch which was glazed over.
Speed Academy if it does end up slipping with the new clutch all you have to do is swap the clutch slave cylinder with an ap1 version without the CDV...
Ain't it great to have a lift for a clutch job.
I was just about to say the same thing!
The GREATEST! It make life so much easier.
Notification Squad!
Man it's so good hearing that TEC ripping, can't wait for the next episode!
That is so awesome you guys now have a lift!
It was sure nice of Pete and Dave to bring out the Badass 2000 to sing our wakeup call this morning! Sounding lovely! 👍
Glad to see it back on the track! Honestly I thought it sounded like the clutch delay valve, but since you have the AP1 set up that’s not it. Great video!
LOVED the flyby at the end.
You guys have been killing it with content! Keep it up!
one of the best channels for automotive content!! love it!
Even thou I don’t race cars anymore(moved on to motorcycles) I still enjoy watching your channel! Great videos and great knowledge.
Thank you! You can live vicariously through us haha
More than great to see the BADASS2000 back guys!! What a great car the S2000 is and with a few right mods it can drive around the track all day long and quite fast also!!
Love the cat you run there, had exactly the same...
Your description stated that you used the AP2 drivetrain. Did you use the AP2 transmission? And, the AP2 clutch slave cylinder? If so, the slave cylinder could've easily been the cause of the slippage problem. The AP2 slave cylinder has a built-in delay valve to reduce drive line shock when speed shifting. It doesn't matter what clutch you have in, you can't speed shift an AP2 slave cylinder. That is intentional by Honda's design.
yunclehead I doubt they used the clutch cylinder from an AP2. They've been using an AP2 transmission since the beginning basically. Even when they were running the AP1 motor they used it because it's built tougher. And it didn't slip with the spec clutch with AP1 motor. Even though they'd put ITBs and whatnot on it.
yunclehead clueless how would the slave cylinder/ clutch master cylinder cause the clutch to slip , then if that was the case your clutch is worn , slave / master cylinder for the clutch is leaking fluid or a defect in the pressure plate . You haven’t a clue
yunclehead troll do you even own a performance vehicle or even have a drivers license. I guess not
I was just going with their statement under the video's description that said," Our newly swapped AP2 Honda S2000 drivetrain into our AP1 S2K..."
It made me wonder exactly how much of the AP2 drivetrain from the donor car made it into their AP1. (I remember they struggled to install the engine and trans as a unit, but I didn't recall all of the details in exactly how they prepped for the swap.) Just so I'm on the same page, was it just the engine and ECU that was swapped out then?
Another upgrade they could use from the donor car would be the differential. The AP2 rear-end is geared shorter than the AP1 to aid in acceleration. Also, did they stay with an OEM flywheel? If so, which one?
@@yunclehead sounds exactly like the AP2 CDV slip.
Great job boys! That car sounds great! Good call on the clutch upgrade. They never get better with time. Now get that thing back out there and set some HOT laps.
Great stuff guys ..keep them videos comin !!!
17k views 1200 likes. The ratio is admirable and worthy of you guys. Speed academy is a life commitment. The footage of Pete drive reminded me of oldish (2006-2011) TV car programs like Top gear /5th gear. Speaks for itself the content for 2 awesome mates that also work on the cars and make the time to edit too.
Thank you Dave, Pete.
Also glad to see the badass back "ripin' tec".
We appreciate this so much, thank you!
Damn, that thumbnail had me scared the lift had failed and the s2000 feel on its side. Lol
New name for the track as suggested by what the captions read as: PIRANHA MOTORSPORTS PARK.
Nice work guys. She rips!
Yeah stock S2K clutch is definitely a weak point.
I have a cheap ass ACT heavy duty in mine and despite being noisy as hell it held up alright for 50,000kms, time for and upgrade soon though, I'm thinkin an Exedy hyper twin plate should do the trick!
My favorite car on this channel. I feel the same way when i get back in a s2000
rip that tec.....rip that tec.....proceeds to rip tec lol, love it.
Please buy a Hans Device to use with the harness for reasons that should be obvious. Thanks, love the channel!
Woo! Badass2000 is back! Can’t wait for more awesome content. Thanks fellas!
So glad to see this beast rippin' tec again. Rip it hard boys, rip it HARD!
It looks awesome! Great job guys.
PT I see that fancy steering technique, pinky up my dude, pinky up @2:03
Always love the content. I think the title of this video was a bit deceiving though.. i expected some sort of drama
Oh there was drama but because we showed the clutch job in 30 secs it looked effortless but we spent over a day and a half to swap with enough cursing to send a pack of nuns running.
Finally some Badass2000 footage!
So like guys lets rewind a bit to where you did not want to remove the trans. lmao good to see you guys got a sense of humor. Keep it up!
Karma got us haha!
It happens to us all lol
Finnaly! Pleaseeeee do a comparisong with fk8 :D touge, lap times, drag race,..... :D
We may just do that!
Put it on the dyno with the Infinity again! Let's see the difference
Will you guys be putting the 19 Miata video back up? Only watched 2 mins now it's gone
I was like wow, that poor clutch lol. Now with that corrected you can give her the beans!
I hope that the next project car will be an nd miata!! would be so awesome
And that's why I own an s2000 just a fun car to drive on the road and track.
Good to see it back in action
Im late to the part here, but ive been watching all of these as they've been excellent. Seems such a heartbreak all the work you put into the AP1 to lose it on RTV! Is there a plan to put the ITB's on the AP2 or will they not work with it? Is the AP2 the electronic throttle?
200k fast approaching! :-)
what happened to the miata video? i was looking forward to watching it.
I’m diggin this shiz nit boys...much love for the s2k. Keep rippin that “tec”
The slipping Almost sounded like the ap2 clutch delay valve but I’m guessing you are using an ap1 slave so wouldn’t apply.
The frs and the ass2000 builds are ny favorite
Might be the clutch, might not be. My first thought was that is the clutch delay valve inside the slave cylinder. Replacing it with the ap1 slave would solve the problem.
It is an AP1 slave... so it had to be the clutch.
Always awesome videos guys .
When are you going to do something with Deboss Garage?
That would be awesome!
Sounds great!!
Definitely deserves a thumbs up
Time for the badass2000 to make a trip down to see John and George at LHT Performance in Florida for a Kraftwerks supercharger kit :P
jronayne88 Definitely! Do that!! It would make the car able to keep up with and pass much more expensive cars.
Love it so much, so with that Recaro would a 6'6" big guy fit in there? lol probably not without a custom tilt steering column.
More s2000 videos!
At 3:40
It sounded like the CDV (clutch delay valve) I have that on my 05 ap2
Our car is an AP1
Just think if you would of took off the trans when u installed it in the car you could of saved 10 plus hours n had clutch in
cant wait to see u guys n jackie ding battle it out
Just finished the clutch on my back ugh, I have to ask, does the SPEC buzz??
The content is great but i wish you guys didnt resort to clickbait titles...you guys dont need to do that😅. The shakedown served its purpose: to see how the car feels after doing significant work to the car and address any issues. the test revealed a slipping clutch, i dont see what "went wrong". Other then that great stuff guys👍
Haha, what went wrong was we lost 2 days of our lives swapping a clutch over.
That might not be the clutch, that slip could be the Clutch Delay Valve
Would help if i watch the whole video before commenting 🤦♂️
A classic SA car makes its glorious return
Smashed it ten times!!
look at that exhaust would ya, 3" metal goodness!
Amen!
This and your FRS
Fuel cut kicks in at 8200 rpm with a factory ECU/tune. I don't have any clutch slippage issues with ~77k miles on a replacement Exedy (OEMish). I can't remember without digging through old videos, was it the original clutch?
Yup original clutch.
So I'm guessing that subframe bolt was ok? It might have just had some dirt/grime on the threads that made it feel hard?
yup, bolt came out with no issues.
This video was just a huge tease! 🤣😂
I may have missed it, did they transfer the AP2 transmission over when they did the swap? I think they did but I am not sure of myself anymore....
Yes we swapped the entire AP2 setup over.
How long did the clutch swap take nice shop
About 6-7 hours. Its not a fun job.
Clutch sounds like its slipping a bit
Get a hondata flash pro or final drive
Great car... I want one!!!!!
if i stalll accidently...my car wont turn on right after? anyone know whats wrong
Did I miss an episode? What exhaust is that?
You must have missed the BADASS2000 series! Its a Berk Technology system.
Nice!!
What exhaust is that again its been so long I forgot. Is it higher DB level, my local track has pretty strict DB levels.
Its one of the quieter 3-inch singles for the S2k. Berk Technology, I love it!
thank you, it appears they don't have DB rating on their website, Laguna is very strict.
Nice bait and switch video title.
So no problems lowering the subframe?
Nope, no issues with the bolts. If we have to swap the engine ever again it is coming down with the subframe.
Getting learnt the hard way :)
that title is so clickbait guys. good video otherwise but i was expecting yall forgot to tighten something up or something like that lol
Having to swap a clutch is a pretty big deal but since it was time lapsed I think it underplayed how crappy it was to do that job.
Speed Academy fair enough, I know it's a pretty shit thing to have to do
What exhaust do you guys have on the car ?
Berk technology
Is that pressure plate inverted??
Its a pull type.
whats the green tape on the exhaust for?
To remind us to clock the exhaust since it was burning the bumper.
Never leave RUclips squad
S2k or nb miata?
S2K
What exhaust is on that s2000?
Berk Technology
Oem is best!
Ap2 Rev limit is 8200. Redline is 8000
Ap1 Rev limit is 9000. Redline is 8800
Thanks for the info!
Woot woot
🤘
That's weird, Honda designed these cars with less torque so the clutch last longer than other cars...
