Kong wasn't attacking as he was too weak to fight back and by cutting the ships off and leaving everything to be quiet, godzilla felt no further reason to attack despite knowing kong was still alive (the novel literally explained this from godzilla's perspective) stop trying to turn the scene into something it's not

Most of the time Godzilla is good. Protecting humanity and keeping the world in order. He attacks only if provoked or if there is disorder. Same for Kong, don’t provoke him and you’re fine, simple.
Protagonist is the lead/main character, antagonist is the character the protagonist has to go against, that doesnt make one the hero and other the villain

In the movie Godzilla is definitely the antagonist and Kong is the protagonist. The story follows Kong as the lead and Godzilla tries to stop him
