Luego de que los estadounidenses los masacraran, hoy portan la bandera de USA, por qué? El Imperio Español protegió a los nativos, por esto en Iberoamérica somos mestizos, y allí solo hay blancos y reductos nativos aislados.

I’m on a journey of my own. I’m a youth teen. Growing up in the city all my life made me lose my ways. Especially growing up in a one parent home where nothing traditional was really taught to me. This year, I decided to make a journey of my own to dance grass. I am really trying to get more involved with who I am, my identity. I am finding myself. But it’s hard without any support or help. But I always say to myself, “this is the path Creator created for me and I just have to accept it and continue walking that path.” I haven’t been to a powwow since I was about 5 or 6. Now I’m 16.

I feel so blessed to have been to my first pow wow during my journey in Northern Ontario this summer, and then a second one, and a third one! Those drums and dances are so powerful! I was really blessed to try both :)

Can you go to a powwow if you’re not a Native? I’d love to go to one. I live in Calgary but rarely do we hear about powwows, I wish they were marketed more. I’m sure they happen 😅 just don’t know when & where.

    • @MiyoPimatisiwin

It depends on the community but most of the pow wows anyone can attend as long as you are respectful. Most pow wows don't have marketing budgets. You might have to do the work to find were pow wows are advertised. Looking up indigenous newspapers, magazines and mailing lists would be a be a good place to start.

Yeah I don’t know why non-Natives aren’t going to powwows in droves right now. Cuz it’s a beautiful culture. Beautiful regalia, dances, atmosphere. Music sounds cool, badass. And I believe there’s food too. I love the Indigenous cultures of the American continent.

With so many distinct cultures, why is Plains the only one ever represented in pow wows? Every. Single. One.

    • @MiyoPimatisiwin

I cannot speak for others but this project specifically was local and we are located in the plains.
