Most nuclear weapons are still measured in kilotons rather than megatons, albeit in the low hundreds of kt rather than the low tens of kt produced by early weapons. Larger bombs run into diminishing returns (which is true of conventional weapons as well), so most of the time it's more efficient to use the same amount of material to make mulriple "small" bombs than one big one.
By the time I was a wee sprout, technology had already progressed to ICBMs with multiple warheads capable of annihilating entire regions. I was born and raised in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. The city itself was primary target, not to mention ALL of Silicon Valley in the South Bay, and to top it off we were surrounded by Navy and Air Force bases! I knew that if an attack took place, there would be a millisecond of white light and I, along with millions of others, would be vaporized. I would be spared the agony and misery of slowly dying from radiation poisoning and wading blindly through the wreckage. Praying to a God that does not exist for a swift death that will come all too slowly. But it's nice to know my Government had a plan in place to deal with what's left of our enemies once and for all!
@@feralhistorian I greatly enjoy your content and it has some resonance for me, but, and I don’t want to overstep my interpretation of your points, I don’t think comparing nation states and their aspirations to a slave is a useful comparison though it has some superficial similarities with regards to the relative constraints of action.
Fair. It was strictly the constraints of action that I was referring to, with no intent that the analogy should be taken further. That said, I don't think we can say that nation-states have aspirations, they're abstracts. People have aspirations, groups of people can share them, but a nation-state is just an egregore.
@@feralhistorian I suppose because I grew up in a port town in a second generation of a post war boom of immigrants, I became acutely aware of how that egregore spans time and place and how tightly people are bound to it. For example, I had classmates, born here, who went from a comfortable middle class in a safe, prosperous nation, to fight on both sides in ex Yugoslavia during the unpleasantness there. Such is it’s power. As a WASP and fervent North American that has little interest in the “home country” it’s always been a source of fascination and bewilderment at the primal nature of this ethnic nationalism. I will say growing up as I did, it also gave me a great, informal education in ancient grievances and geopolitical motivations of the people of the world. Lol. My best, Bill
Entirely unrelated to this I would refer to several projects at work as “project bloodstone” whenever they were obviously desperate attempts to squeeze blood from a stone. Weird.
Unrelated, but have you considered covering Ender's Game, Ghost in the Shell, Hammer's Slammers or Robocop? Also gotta say, just discovered your channel, its phenominal content
No matter how dark the story is, a Troy McClure reference is always enjoyable. Really enjoyed part two!

Neutron bombs are purposefully "small" to minimize damage to machinery and buildings too...while still killing biological life.
More of this would be awesome.
They've got a decent YT presence, too. Mike Baker, Andrew Bustamante, Shawn Ryan and Peter Zeihan are just a few of the more popular glowies.
Amazing content. I studied this topic a few years ago, but there is not alot of ready available info. Glad i found your channel!
Another fantastic episode from my favorite feral gh... Historian.
All Your videos are so good, can tell you put effort into all of them, I enjoy your format
Oooh good, I was hoping we’d get more of this series
I knew I've seen McClure somewhere. 😁 Very informative series. Thank you.
Absolutely Wicked!
Organization Gladius!!!

Post-nuclear gorilla war is one heck of a word.
Awesome
The big mistake everyone makes is assuming that “proxies” don’t have agency.
Even slaves have agency. It's just restricted by external factors.

I love this stuff! More please?
"Might create resentment........."
Aye......
in the same way that I MIGHT get a bit wet if I decide to go for a swim.^^

All four are on the "do it" list. But only Robocop is at the "page of notes" stage at the moment.
@feralhistorian I'll definitely keep an eye out mate, cheers from Australia, there are still a few of us like you out here left yet!
Congratulations for noting that Kulaks where independent farmers, not aristocratic landlords (as so many believe).
These seem to be coming out in 5 month intervals. Are we due for part 3?
I was working on part 3 yesterday in fact. I have to keep hunting for documents to make sure I'm remembering details right, but it's coming along.
Now if General McClure has the same voice as Phil Hartman, that will complete the image.
I enjoyed the Simpsons reference.
so is this new entity a "Raptor"
🎉
I usually swallow your mistakes about historical socialism but it’s getting alittle lazy.
What mistakes?
