Start with investing in a small home studio! I know it sounds scary/expensive, but if you really want to invest in some good materials to jumpstart you I would look at Sweetwater.com, it's where I got all my stuff! And I just record with all that junk on my bedspread haha. Mic, headphones, interface to start. Whatever is compatible with your monitor, there is a lot of reasonably priced es stuff out there!
