- In this video, I go over why I wouldn't have bought ND filters when starting out in Photography and I also get a couple of photos

Hey, congratulations on 1000 subscribers. You're on your way to monetization.
That staircase on the sea shot is great. 12:51
Thanks mate, just the 4K watch hours to get lol, thanks I earls happy with that one
Nice video Keith & good advice too. Wonder how much money we all have needlessly spent on filters and or gadgets in our time. Don’t think from a personal pov I want to know lol🤦♂️🤣👍
Cheers mark, I won’t work that out, I will never hear the end of it from the wife 😂
Nice one mate.... Do like the photo with the steps, we must visit that one.....
Cheers mate, I wasn’t overly happy with the photos to be honest. Just at that location to show the effect you can achieve, not great location for photos .
Hi Keith hope you're well. Great video and advice agree with your thoughts definitely get a polariser filter and maybe a budget variable ND filter. Back in my film days I owned loads of filters, but now I only have a polariser. Wasps are out in force now and are at their most angry, Karen hates them if one goes near her she does the "wasp dance 😂" great photos liked the black and white image.
Best wishes stay safe Jon and Karen
Hi Jon, hope you are both well, a polariser is a good addition to your camera bag, ahh the wasp dance. I know it well. Although as I’ve gotten older I do less of a dance now and more of a run, I find if I run fast enough they tend to stay where they are and leave me alone. The kids aren’t happy when I take them out. The 2 year old found his way home eventually so it’s all good
I love long exposures but I become a bit particular on when to do them (just because I can, doesn’t mean I would kind of mindset 😂). Cheap ND filters degrade quality and produce weird color artifacts, and some variable NDs have that cross vignetting problem. Don’t waste money on cheap ones and spend for quality when you know you want to do it long term. Same mindset when I buy lenses, but end up wanting everything 🤣 good topic to talk about. Thanks for sharing, interesting location over there.
Hi Keith, exactly that, know what you’re buying and why you are buying it first. I’m the same, I want everything lol
Hi Keith. Hope you’re ok mate. Nice video. Love the black and white images. Something I do need to invest in is a new set off filters. The nd filter I got it the sort you turn and it does from light to dark. Keep safe mate, shawn.
Hey mate. Thanks l, I wasn’t too happy with the images but the message stands. You can get some great ft shots with filters mate, worth investing in if it’s something your into.
I've got a neutral density filter that came with a used camera. I have not yet tried it.
I think they're mostly needed for long exposures in bright sunlight. Does the sun ever even come out in the UK?
Give it a go they are worth it, they are also good for cloudy skies, thankfully 😅
Good video and advice, I don’t use any filters because I only photograph iguanas🤣
Thanks Enrique, and some great iguanas they are too
Yeah Long Exposures will always be the main focus (no pun intended) of my attention when I'm using Filters - Come to think of it, its been a bit of a while now since I actually went to the Coast, excluding my trip to Cornwall that is... Not sure what my favourite season is, just hate it when it gets too muddy outside, but hate Summer!!
I think I remember that video, with the long exposure, to be honest I’ve seen so many they all blur together lol. I prefer the winter months because of the moody photos you can get. If you take the right gear it’s not too bad. You just have to protect the camera gear
Sorry, not with you on this. I love long exposure shots, core part of my work, and if you are going to put glass in front of your sensor, make it quality glass. I love and regularly use my fixed 100x100 Nisi ND filters. Each to their own
Hey, thanks for commenting, I have to disagree, it sounds like you are with me on this. Maybe the message wasn’t as clear as it it could have been. My point is, buying cheap filters is a waste of money, figuring out if it’s something you want to do and invest in something decent. I found out the hard way buying cheap filters and eventually landing on lee filters.
@@keithguppy noted, thanks. You do open by saying 'you dont need expensive filters when you start photography'. That sounded pretty clear to me
Yeah I can see how that might be misleading, what I mean by that is, try out long exposure first before you buy you might not like it.
