I will say that image shown doesn't do the deluxe "Sundrop" buildings justice. The tiniest details in those models really shine. A beautiful game I'd love to get to the table more (like every game)!

When I first saw this game, it suggested a bit of New York 1901 where you can overbuild newer buildings over older ones (copper to silver to gold). Also, there's the ability to reserve building sites by claiming cards, though the New York 1901 cards just reference color coded districts rather than a single specific location. The grid reminds me a bit of Acquire, of course the gameplay is entirely different there. Like you, I also found it really handy that you can just look at your player mat when determining points, income, etc. That's really helpful. I'd be interested in your take on the price point on Foundations of Rome. It's really nice, but at a premium cost. Lastly, looks like Arcane Wonders will be launching a Foundations of Metropolis, which looks to be a modern city version of the game.

One of my favorites from the last few years! I love that you’re building a city all on one board. Foundations of Metropolis, a cardboard reimplementation, is coming later this year, so it’ll be nice to have an affordable retail alternative too.

I REALLY enjoy this game. Emerson Matsuuchi put another amazing design together. I am curious how Foundations of Metropolis will compare.

Earlier this month, I played Brass Birmingham for the first time, and it had an Overbuilding action that allowed a player to replace an existing building on the board. Although, I didn't know about this rule during my first play, and no one did it during the second play, so I haven't seen it in action yet.

This is such a great game! My favorite thing is the player mat and how it just tells you what you get underneath the building

I agree--that's such a great product design choice.

I like that the subtitles always read "still meer games" when you say stonemair 😂😂😂
I really wanted this game but could not justify the huge cost for it because of all the miniatures!

Have you played New York 1901? It has a similar overbuild mechanism, and I think it's really fun as a gateway game.

I have! I had a really poor first experience with it (compared to a very good first experience with Foundations of Rome), but perhaps I need to give it another try.

Really looking forward to getting this one in the post. Do you think the production makes the game, or would it be still as good in the stripped down version Foundations of Metropolis ?

I don't think it's the production that makes the game--the mechanisms are excellent on their own.
