    So I have now jumped on the bandwagon with the others and admit you’re my new favorite game reviewer/playthrough-er (if there is such a word lol). You’re so clear and concise with your explanations and I love how you take time to also briefly explain variants, even if you’re not necessarily playing them. Now if you would only sell your JGG shirts, would be great! Good fundraiser and depending on the price, I’d definitely buy because the logo is genius!

      If you check out jongetsgames.com/support you'll find a link to buy a shirt if you'd like :)

    Those components are gorgeous, even down to the striking font.

      You should see the final game (still waiting to see the wash) Its stunning, and I cant wait to get mine.

    The components look terrific. I love the look of those round cards.

    Thank you for another very informative video Jon, I am though taking a year off from KS as I still have unopened ones from this year and some still to come.

    Backed this one. Great components, balanced mechanics, should be solid entertainment for my board game group. Too bad I've still got a year to wait.

    In the final version, it looks like what you described as the advanced variant for population scoring (where you score the next higher player’s population) is now the standard (and only) rule. I think the idea is to make the race more interesting, since it’s no longer advantageous to build up a huge surplus - it’s more efficient to only stay a couple population ahead - meaning that there’s always the danger that someone else will decide to jump ahead of you and snipe the bonus.

      Oh that's interesting! I'm almost never told by publishers when rules change from the prototype I made a video with to the final version unfortunately.

    This game is basically new york 1901......

  • @jinbam

    this game reminds me new york 1901 plot buying and bulding almost the same except for theme.

      I thought the same thing. This has a little more going on though in terms of the money and where buildings are placed "next to" others mattering. The basics are definitely there though.

    As always, great job. Do you know if all the boards, especially the score and centerboard, are double-layered?

      Unfortunately, I'm not sure. I only played with this prototype version.

    Does the game really call each of those urban islands 'an insulae'? Because the singular of 'insulae' is 'insula'.

    I am not sure I could play this game and not wish I was playing Acquire. I think Acquire starts with a similar foundation and takes it a much more interesting direction. I could see this being enjoyable, but I can't imagine it being worth the hefty price tag and the massive shelf space.

    Is it just me or does the random draw seem to have put green at a significant disadvantage to start the game?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 года назад +6

      I can see what you are saying and I think this is why the game comes with a drafting variant at the start of the game. Personally if I was to play this in the future I think I would always do the draft at the start.

      I can see this....I would probably go the drafting route too.

      This was filmed with a prototype for the crowdfunding campaign, so I am not 100% sure if it is fully up to date.

    They are nice components, unfortunately they will turn a 40 dollar game into a 90 dollar game. Look at tapestry.

    • @codydavis3100
      @codydavis3100 4 года назад +2

      Tapestry would not have been $40 if the buildings were tiles or tokens. Maracaibo is $75. Not much cheaper than Tapestry. Some people will see the worth for this game because it is a sight to behold. I have too many games so even though it's pretty I have a budget and space issues. I would gladly play this one day because it looks to be a nice lightweight engine builder.

    • @dshannon23
      @dshannon23 4 года назад +2

      Yeah but Tapestry doesn't take up 4 spots on my shelf... unlike this behemoth.

    • @DrMcFly28
      @DrMcFly28 4 года назад +1

      But the buildings in Tapestry are completely superfluous, I feel that here they are integrated much better into the gameplay.

    Thanks for the play-through. Now I know this game is not to my taste and that I shouldn't buy this very expensive game.

    This is "Screw the Color Blind Person: The Game". Literally unplayable for me.

    • @Ensid1993
      @Ensid1993 4 года назад +1

      who cares about miniority. I think if the game has an option for color blind ppl then its cool, good additions, but dont expect everyone to make games around your disability, the world doesnt circle around you.
