    this was extremely helpful for me! I am in my second year of undergrad for psychology at the University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) and I kept going back and forth between school psych and being a licensed counselor. after hearing your pro's this sounds like more of a focused career i am looking for especially with the growing awareness of mental illness (FINALLY!) in public schools. there are not many school psych youtube videos and i really appreciate this one!

    I just finished reading a book, the body keeps the score. After reading that book, i think it would be so important to have a school psychologist in a school, which would help kids and teens out to grow healthy adults. For a psychologist, it will be so rewarding but i guess very hard and difficult aa well. Good on you pursuing the study and career!👍

      In Virginia, there's George Mason (where I am currently), James Madison, and UVA, which are all reputable schools. Keep in mind, though, some programs are master's/specialist level while others are doctoral. • @TiffanyLee
      @TiffanyLee  5 лет назад +1

      hi Samantha! I think the role could be different depending on the type of school and school district but school psychologists generally work closely with students and parents as well as with teachers and administrators. They provide testing for evaluation, counseling, consultation, and a lot more. I view social workers as people who work more with families to provide support / report family background history to help students succeed while psychologists work with teachers and students to help students succeed academically. They may both provide counseling groups and work with students.

    hi tiffany, I am currently in the middle of my psychology bachelors degree in Australia. I was wondering what kinds of issues you regularly have to deal with. I really want to make sure the field I go into is enjoyable and isn't emotionally draining. I worry that by being around because with distressing lives and problems I become less happy and experience burn-out.

    • @TiffanyLee
      @TiffanyLee  5 лет назад

      Hi Natarsha! I do think a lot people experience burn out because they deal with some difficult situations (administration, students, families, etc.). The job can be as demanding as you want it to be- whether you want to hide in your office and only do assessments or help the school by being a resource in all ways possible. This all depends on your personality as well as the district that you'd be working in since different states and countries have different laws and expectations. If you're passionate about helping children and practice self-care (eating healthy, exercising, sleeping, etc.), I think this would be a great field for you.

    Hi Tiffany! Loved your video, thank you for the informative content 🧡 I am currently in ABA and I find myself struggling with behavior modification/crisis intervention, how large of a role would you say these play in day to day as a school psych? I am in love with the field so far but I think I’m facing burn out as an RBT, I wanted to know how similar you’d say the two are. Thanks! 🙏🏼

    • @TiffanyLee
      @TiffanyLee  4 года назад

      I pursued school psychology because of the wider scope of work you can do with children. While I thought behavior analysis was effective and interesting, I wanted to do more and work with a variety of students and staff. It really depends on where you work but in my county, there are ABA specialists in each school whom we work closely with. While we are experts in behavior, we have so many other responsibilities like special education eligibility, counseling, and systems level work.

    Thank you for this video! I am currently a undergrad majoring in Psychology and education and am considering going to grad school for school psychology! This also may be a dumb question but would you get paid on snow days and the breaks? I'm assuming you wouldn't get paid for summer breaks? What would you do then to make money? Thank you! I would also love a video that explains in more detail what you do as a school psychologist on an average day and maybe advice for grad school! 💗

    • @TiffanyLee
      @TiffanyLee  5 лет назад +1

      Basically, you are paid salary and depending on the county or district, you may have a choice between 20 pays and 26 pays throughout the year. The amount is the same but you can choose how it is distributed. In short, you do not get paid over the summer so some people may tutor or pick up another job while school is out. I believe some school psychs work the entire year and they get paid more.

    I'm wondering how involved they are in terms of behavior and parent training in the school system versus counseling and assessments

    • @TiffanyLee
      @TiffanyLee  4 года назад

      The role of a school psych really depends on your school and district as well as your preferences. We will always be expected to help with assessment and the eligibility process but we are also the behavior and mental health experts in the school. I know some school psychs who do counseling and consultation 50% and assessments 50% while some only do assessments. Are you more interested in behavior modification?
