Thank you Chris for such an informative video! My English husband are planning to move to Blackpool within two years, once hubby retires. Blackpool has always been his favorite place so it is his choice for retirement. Me? I'm an American who hates living in Stoke on Trent. I am from Texas and living in this dying city is draining me. I love this place for it's history but it is almost pitiful to watch it die through political apathy. I have no one in this country but my husband so I am used to it just being us. I am quite used to being "the new Kid" as I grew up with an American Air Force father and we moved quite often. I enlisted in the American Navy and continued the moving around. My Mother was English (Notts) so I have been in and out of this country all my life and love England. I am 65 and have moved 49 times, so as I say being the new kid is not new to me. My husband is a Royal Army vet and is used to moving about too. We spent the first week of July in Blackpool and I abandoned hubby at Coral Island and spent three days on a fact finding mission. Your point about checking out different areas is valid as it is critical that you don't end up someplace that will make you miserable. I spent a half day in Fleetwood exploring and fell in love with it. You will not remember but I spoke to you 2 years ago and you said When the time came I should check out Fleetwood as it was a bit quieter for retirement. You were spot on, so thank you. I'm sorry I did not get a chance to stop and chat with you this trip but I ran out of time!. I wish more "real" people put out video's like this.
Food for thought here Chris! I always say when I’m in Blackpool “I want to live here” until Sean reminds me that I’m not getting up and doing 8 hours of work every day, cooking, cleaning etc I say it as I’m a few wines deep in holiday mode! Great vid 😊
Thanks Chris, I appreciate this video. As you say there is a difference between visiting and actually living in Blackpool , or any other seaside town. Wishing you all the best for the summer season! 😀👍
I moved here 2 years ago from Shropshire sold our house and bought a house and got boys college and a job, hubby and I got decent jobs too, love it up here, life's what you make it, we've made friends straight away, everybody's different, life is good ..... The whole country is struggling everywhere I see Blackpool will bounce back and is starting too. The people of Blackpool are great if you make the right friends , my life has changed for the best,
This was a really good video, Chris. Possibly one of your best. Well structured and serious, but still with enough of a Higgit twist. 😜😁 I remember asking you this very question once with my Mrs a few years ago, we're the Black Country couple (Tipton and Brierley Hill), and you told us a shortened version of this video that never left us. Really appreciated it. 👍🏼 One video tip for you, though. Film your videos at your eye level and above. RUclips likes them angles, and you'll get more views. 😉😁👍🏼
thanks chris what a excellent video you have made really interesting and very good advice more of this type of advice is always welcome have a great summer oh may the £1 burger go from strength to strength well done chris take care
Love that you’ve done this…it’s something we’re considering (me and 2 kids) in 5 years when our finances will hopefully be a lot healthier and my youngest will have left secondary…so true-you need to look around at houses and areas
Fantastic Video Chris I Enjoyed It Today I Turned 65 I Will Never Move Again But I Hope Some Day That I Will Cross The Big Pond To Visit Blackpool It Is My Kind of Place Have A Great 🌃
Thank you Chris good advice we’ll Presented think off your options and yes come and rent first see if you like livening there before you bye and winter time very bad weather when l come for a weekend l come too the front and people don’t see the back end it is so big.
Finally got round to paying you a visit on Saturday afternoon. Me and my mate were the ones from Birmingham and we had a chat about Steve and his 5 watches haha. Cracking burger by the way, we came back for another about half hour later. All the best.
Great advice Chris. Now retired and really thinking of moving there. Like you say various areas to consider to buy, like anywhere good and bad. Rather than meeting at work, best to get out socially, join local clubs too. Even bingo...😃
Such a good interesting correct video, the bit about coming from being a tourist to living here is very different thats dead right and the winter part being cold miserable wet and boring is dead right too.i moved here from yorkshire 7 years ago and them 2 points are so true for me.brill facts and video 👍

Considered blkpool years ago but changed our minds best thing we ever done last time went blkpool was really disappointed just not the same place we knew 20yrs ago
Moving to blackpool is still good in December you can still watch the sea, chill out by the sea, make memories with loved ones just keep wrapped up nice and warm and if you like the peace December is the time to get out and enjoy the sea with peace and quiet
Very informative chris but i would never ever consider living in blackpool however there is good and bad in every town blackpool seems to have gone seriously downhill in recent years but so have lots of areas like you mentioned blackpool has great areas alongside slummy areas
I came to Blackpool in 1980 and had a job lined up to start, which went bankrupt weeks later. But at that time it wasn't disastrous as it was in season and I went to work on the pleasure beach until I found a full time job. Now as it stood in the early 80's if you had not lived in Blackpool for at least 2 years you could not claim benefits, this changed about 1982 when Maggie Thatcher did away with that rule, probably the biggest mistake any government has ever made because over the next 20 years, as work was getting to be less and less, more people were just moving here, coming out of work and staying here anyway. Believe me, we saw the town get more and more overcrowded with unemployed and all the other social problems that go with it. As it stands now you should be very careful even thinking about coming here as this town is becoming more and more run down every year, and this could be why we have one of the highest suicide rates in the country.
All very interesting. You can be lonely in any town on your own even in London. One aspect that you did not mention, OAPS who are thinking of retiring to Blackpool. I have been visiting Blackpool and St Annes for more years than i care to remember and as a Retired OAP i would like to move to a nice flat in St Annes. You can get a flat in St Annes for a reasonable price but most i have seen have old fashioned storage heaters which i do not want. I prefer gas heating. However i will move to St Annes as soon as find a suitable flat. All towns are quiet in the winter but the big name hotels in Blackpool Holiday Inn, Hampton Hilton etc are open in the winter and the rates are less. So most OAPs could move to Blackpool or St Annes without the worry of finding a job as long as they could manage on their pensions. Even better if they are downsizing with money over. There are not many advantages in being old but this is one of them. Lets not talk about receding hair, aches and pains, memory loss etc. What was i talking about? Oh yes.
I used to live in blackpool years ago. Now my eldest son and daughter live in blackpool now. I must say blackpool is a lot better than oldham. If i didnt have commitments here in oldham id be in blackpool xxx
@@mrblackpooldaddy I love Blackpool but winter time is grim can be a very lonely place we’re suicide is high but ye good video hope to see ye in a month or two wen I will come up in the summer holidays 👍👍👍👍👍

Great video but for someone who's lived in Blackpool for 20 years I thought you would know blackpool is on the west not the east and its the Irish sea not the North Sea 😉
