I am currently on my 2nd year for 200k+ emplyees huge company. All this sounds so practical for me. Thank you for sharing. I feel espicailly lucky to see my boss check all the boxes for a excellent 'staff plus engineering'. He is really a role model for us.
Superb! The talk I didn't know I needed to see 😄 I think you managed to touch on everything I've been thinking about, attempting, trying to influence/improve/help with in at least my 2 past orgs and not infrequently failing at! 😅
All of this discussion around moving up in an organization presupposes that the org isn't merged with other companies, the CEO is not replaced 2x as a result, and the leadership tree has left and been replaced by all of this. (First hand experience of this as a senior dev). All things being equal, in a stable organization, this all sounds plausible.
I used to do IT and admin work in hospitals, and vaguely remember "being staff plus" was not an ideal situation and required some special patient handling. Bit like being the "lead delivery manager" for a company that's expected to deliver food ;)
