Lol. I bought a GMT Master as an 18 yr old Seaman in the Navy. Had second thoughts about the Pepsi bezel, but it grew on me. Can’t believe it is 34 yrs old.
I think the GMT is the model in the current Rolex lineup that screams ‘luxury’ the most. The colorful bezel combined with the polished center links make it such that it’s really visible from across the room. I’m partial to the vintage models personally, the Coke in particular. Enjoyed the video!
@@mattp9457 Nine months. I got a promotion in late January and my wife and I are celebrating 20 years together. I texted my SA and asked for it and explained why. Fast forward to October, my wife and I were visiting the city where my SA is to celebrate our anniversary. I had told my SA we were coming the week before. I stopped in to just say hi and talk watches, like I normally do, and was surprised with an anniversary cake and the watch. I had no idea she had it for me. It was a great weekend.
meanwhile the grand daddy of all GMT's is the 126719 BLRO Meteorite Dial variety ... rarest and most expensive of all GMT's except the off-catalogue diamond / ruby models.
Hey Tim, could you share which cities on that list you would avoid wearing your rolexs? I’ve traveled all over the world with mine but times see to be worse than ever. Appreciate the insight my friend
It's probably a bit more complicated than that. Time of day, location, indoor vs outdoors, and the prominence of the watch all figure into the decision. I've had no issues wearing expensive watches in NYC, but people in some parts of LA have told me it's worse there. I've had no issues wearing watches in Philadelphia, either, but that's in upscale commercial and residential neighborhoods. Could it be tougher at night in areas with higher crime? Possibly! But in any case, I'd do specific research before deciding to wear an expensive watch in an unfamiliar town. Best, Tim
Nice fun and succinct presentation Tim. Bravo. However in these troubled times having a “unmistakably Rolex timepiece “ on your wrist can be dangerous.
I live in Albuquerque. Even in cow town I keep my eyes open, always on guard. In my 16 years doing my lap swimming five days a week. I have never seen another Rolex in the change room or in the water. Now, either of my three Rolex's. I do not wear them at the flea market. My AD called me two months ago and said come on in, I have a sub for you. I bought it. My day date I'm always on guard. Sad to have to live like that.
Just got mine yesterday. I’m in love with it. I got mine on 2/4/23, and I see you got yours exactly two years to the date before mine on 2/4/21! Gorgeous piece
I always thought that the speedmaster was worn in space because it was manually wound and that an auto watch couldn't be worn because the rotor wouldn't work in zero gravity. So, i'm surprised that GMTs were used.
This was later disproven. It's the mass-governed inertia of the rotor rather than the force of gravity that assists the winding in space. Also, even an automatic watch can be wound manually if there's any doubt. Manual-wind doesn't even have any theoretical advantage over automatic in space if you don't remember to wind the Omega. Best, Tim
Would be an almost perfect watch with a day window included and a lumed bezel insert. I mean to me day is equally important to date, if not more important sometimes, especially on long holidays, when you supposed to use the GMT function if you are not a pilot. Sure it can be useful for those too who work in multiple timezones. Without lumed bezel insert, the GMT function is useless in dark. Not sure if it has screwdown crown but that would be also pretty useful and important, then you would not need a rolex for every different occassion.
It’s also important to note the issues that the 32xx movements are having ( especially with the gmt 2 ) i iust had to set my 2019 in for service as it was losing 5-10 min a day. Also, Tim, thank you for your service!
I have the new Pepsi references on Oyster until now I have no issue whatsoever it’s been exactly a year I have it still running fine so far….. Gaining or losing 5 to 10 mins a day that’s insane sorry to hear it it’s freaking odd honestly
I don't believe that was universally the conclusion with the Sub. With the pre-2018 Deepsea, definitely. But I didn't hear too many complaints about the Sub before Rolex revisited the design. Best, Tim
There was too fast for me, it seemed Rushed. That is just my 2 cents worth. I personally like the rattlie bracelet, pressed clasp and folded links. I first saw a sub in the 80’s and that is the look I love. What I have never liked the lack of accuracy in an automatic, the reason I never owned one. Now that I’m retired and it’s 2022 and I realize that there are many many watches that are better than a Rolex.
You won’t get a Pepsi from an AD, dream on, 2 year wait😂, good luck with that….more like 5-10 or never….expect to pay 100 pc more on grey market if you actually want one.
“99% of owners don’t know how to use the 3rd time zone”. Really?!? People interested in such a historic time piece have done their homework and definitely know how to use it. Just my opinion I guess.. I learnt how to use it well before having it in my possession. Great video though!
Yes. As with the Navitimer bezel, the GMT bezel seems to puzzle actual owners I've met. Honestly, most of them just use it as a "reminder" prompt or as a makeshift timing (read: dive) bezel. Best, Tim

Congrats! but who did you payoff to get it lol. I can't even get on a waiting list 😒 enjoy in good health 🍻
How long have you been on the list if you mind me asking? I'm coming up on 2 years and I have my name at 2 different AD's.

Surprised you mentioned Tudor Black Bay Pro instead of the Tudor Pepsi

Hi Tim!. Best watch guy on the internet!. You’re an encyclopedia!!. Quick question, where would you rate the GMT Sprite in collectibility?.
You still have the Mojo Tim…the king remains on top of his game!
Cool to see the face for the voice

Let’s hope it hasn’t been discontinued 😢

Hi sir. I'm looking at 1 right now also. The price say $10900. Just wondering, how come the old 1 same model cost more?
Ah that’s my watch!
When you try and remove the hype, I think the pepsi is the best looking Rolex in the current catalogue (rootbeer is a close second)

That bezel looks so much brighter then my 2021 version. Is this just a result of the camera or does the color vary from batch to batch?
I suspect it's just the camera. Sean uses special studio lighting when he shoots these.
Best,
Tim
There is mk1 mk2 mk3 2018 mk1 2019 2020 mk2 2021 to present mk3 all different bezel colors.

it's funny how no one complains about the super case on the GMT but it was an abomination on the sub before they transitioned to the 41mm variant
