Finally! Somebody highlighting the gulf in quality of 90s and early 00s Rolex V Omega bracelents, clasps and endlinks ! I’ve been saying this to my mates for years. Thank you Tim for putting this out there. Usually only those who’ve owned and spent extended tine with these neo vintages from both brands would be aware of this fact. It took Rolex more than a decade to finally caught up. With that said, the light and jangly build is partly why I love wearing my 5 digit Datejust so much!

Be careful at 1:58. Rolex website in the history of the GMT-Master doesn’t say it was commissioned by Pan Am, only that it was the official watch of Pan Am. The Rolex ad you show says it was “designed for pilots, ships' captains, navigators and world travellers.” We have to be careful what we use as a source; that it wasn’t just repeated from someone else. No Rolex ad says the watch was commissioned by Pan Am. Pan Am is out of business and Rolex doesn’t disclose any document (unlike Omega, for example, about its relationship with NASA).

@17:45 The green dial is called the "anniversary" dial, because it came out on the centenary i.e. 100th anniversary of the brand itself: 2005.

    Amazing video as ever!
I have an _immaculate_ 16750 with a matte dial that I inherited from my dad. A safe queen longer than I’ve been alive.
It’s such an overlooked reference, you get the look of a 1675 but the upgraded movement, quickset date, 100m water resistance and most importantly: rareity. The 16750 was made for 3 model years with the matte dial and most have had their dials replaced. Fellow collectors, if you see one in good condition: jump on it!

Thank you for reminding everyone that the Batgirl name came from derision & is completely redundant as a nickname.

I agree with you. Batman on Jubilee for me. Just butt hurt people with the older version call it the Batgirl.

Kinda sad that even AD attendants don't know "BLNR" or "BLRO" anymore. I've gotten "oh, you mean the Batman" too many times. Never liked the unofficial nicknames on the modern Rolexes.

Surely the most practical of all complications (apart from a power reserve on a manual wind). How many Daytona owners use their chronos? I use my gmt practically every day (even when I'm not luck enough to be travelling I work for a multi national company and it is so useful).
The only downside is the bezel is now so recognisable that wearing it with a short sleeve shirt in London is becoming a liability.
    Great content as usual

That was a great lap Around the Crown. I didn't think I had any interest in Rolex GMTs and by the end I was dreaming of someday owning my own meteorite dial model. Thank you Tim and Mike, always a pleasure!

Glossed right over the LN, but Mike was keen to bring it up twice. It sells thousands cheaper than the other six digit ceramic bezels. Forgotten, or a sleeper?

My Dad bought one in the late 50s...And then sued Rolex (international News story) because of the radium luminescence. Lost the lawsuit, but then put in into a lead box since 1959 and never wore it again. Pristine with original box and sales receipt (not sure about other literature). But my older brother snatched it in 2015 and sold it to a dealer in Florida. Unfortunately have no idea who bought it from the dealer. My brother was an uniformed fool to sell our family heirloom. But in horology, according to the gentlemen who sought me out looking for the watch, a watch with a story is super valuable...especially in suing Rolex in 1961. Anyone know where this watch got sold to?

In the 80s the military and airline guys started to have more money and could now afford the two tone (military) or the full gold (airlines). Had the SS as a lieutenant (a stretch even back then) but moved up to two tone when I got to the Pentagon. I think the two tone tool for the baby boomers showed you’d made it.
