    WONDERFUL!!!!!!
    One day an archaeologist is going to dig this up and the wood will be rotted away leaving only the metal parts. So he'll take it back to base and say "Look what I found! What do you think it is?". Then they'll spend two or three years analysing it and eventually conclude that it is an ancient device for calculating the circumferance of the universe.
    You've become my new hero!

      The antikythera finger tapping mechanism

    • @stel1000
      @stel1000 6 лет назад +1

      Not funny Ron. You're being disrespectful towards the Greek invention of computer of Antikythera. You think it was that easy to make a computer from just gears that need such precision to work all together when Rolex takes that much money to make a small watch that is precise and nearly all cheaper watches miss up seconds or even minutes after a month of wearing them? Like get serious. Respect Greece.

    • @rontocknell3592
      @rontocknell3592 6 лет назад +21

      Er... I didn't mention Antikythera nor did I make any references to it. If it could be deemed "disrespectful" to any factor, it would be archaeologists and historians... both of which I do respect but few things are taboo to a bit of whimsical humour whether good or bad. That's how humour works. Something strikes you as amusing. You don't have to wait for someone to tell you a joke. With a little imagination, you can view anything in an amusing light.
      However, if, as I dearly hope, you were just being ironic, lol.

      @@rontocknell3592 well . I respect ancients more that I actually do the later people . Cause ancients where more of Craftsmen. Also they had the brightest minds. The last 2000 years the petrol machines were invented and the computers. Other than that the bC inventions are crazy, I mean thinking that people made it with their hands and they had so much thinking put into them and so much craftsmanship and mathematics.

    • @Joe-pi9bx

      Instead of having a gear facing vertically to activate the lever arm he could have one with the axis going directly into the base at a 90 degree angle to the flat base's plane. Then he could put that on a riser and have a slope ,on the bottom half, with the lever's coming up underneath that, being pushed down by the slope then dropping when the reach the sharp end of the slope. That would greatly simplify the mechanics for that concept.

    I keep coming back for the shenanigans. I stay for the workmanship and artistry. One heck of a combination.

    Very inspiring watching you turning matter in beautiful and useful things. I live in Australia and here we have very beautiful and very strong type of wood from gumtree. It comes in different colours and different density. Just a suggestion for some of your future projects. Take care and thank you for the knowledge you share with us.

    I love this whimsy. Small addition... a little square of leather gold embossed (like they used to have as desk protectors?) to sit under the finger. It would change the tap sound.

    Try cherry, it is not orange but you may like darker sections of it. It lends itself to detailed carving very well. You do need some carving tools though. You can use the chisel on the other side, it will give you more control with depth and grain. I do like your simulacrum of the artisan, great conceptual project. Love your engraving skills.
