Bhai Saheb, great interview. rafi saheb was a super human being. I attended his funeral services at Mumbai in 1980. lakhs of people came and almost every one was feeling as if they lost their family member. Rafi saheb had made a permanent place in their hearts. he was a real Kohinoor, we never heard any thing bad about him. He will be with us till we take our last breath. awesome children also Shahid Bhai resembles His father a lot. only Sonu Nigam comes close to Rafi saheb in singing. Almost 90% some times. Rafi saab was loved and respected by every indian not only because he was a great singer but more because he was a great human being. Unlike dilip kumar, mehmood, kader khan etc who considered themselves muslim first Rafi saab was a good muslim but loved everybody irrespective of their religion. And unlike some other great singers like Lata mangeshkar Ji who would have arguments with music directors over fees, Rafi saab never gave much importance to money.

He is an immortal singer and will remain so. His range , his empathetic rendition and it is very difficult to choose his unique songs - the list will be endless. But apart from songs that you have already mentioned , two outstanding songs of completely different genres are still sang vociferously , Madhuban me Radhika Nache Re and the frolicking frothy melody, Gulabi Aankhen amongst many others

Very good interview of Shahid on his illustrious father, a person I have adored all my life. He has sung the best bhajans of Indian cinema. He was a true ratna of bharat. I would like to share that he is the only singer who has sung songs on Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru and even one song on Sardar Patel. I doubt if any other singer could come anywhere near this great man not only in terms of a great singer but also a wonderful person and a very good human being. Regards 😊 Dr ashok patnaik

That Rafi saab was , and will forever remain a great singer, is a fact that needs neither any discussion nor any debate.
That said, there a few aspects of this interview of his son, that needs to be looked into with more detail.
For example, Rafi Saab's son here states in a very parochial way that during Rafi Saab's time, Rafi saab would speak with everyone in Punjabi, as the industry was practically only full of - and filled off with Punjabis. This statement deserves a second look for sure.
Let's take a look , one by one, at the top 5 (in some cases more) of everyone from composers, lyricists, co - singers, actors and directors/producers , who played the major role in making Rafi saab the hit that he was.
Top 5 composers who gave Rafisaab his most hit songs - Naushad, Shankar - Jaikishan, SD Burman, Laxmikant - Pyarelal and OP Nayyar. Barring one, none of them was a Punjabi.
Top 6 lyricists who wrote the most number of hit Rafi songs - Majrooh Sultanpuri, Shakeel Badayuni, Shailendra, Hasrat Jaipuri, Sahir Ludhianvi & Anand Bakshi. Again Barring 2, none were Punjabis.
Co- singers: Lata Mangeshkar, Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle, Suman Kalyanpur, Shamshad Begum, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey & Mukesh. Again barring one, none was a Punjabi.
5 actors who played the key role in Rafi Saab's advent to top: Guru Dutt, Johnny Walker, Bharat Bhushan, Dev Anand & Dilip Kumar. Again barring one, None was a Punjabi. Yes Dilip Kumar could speak Punjabi very well. But ethnically, he was as Pashto as one can get. So yeah..
Directors/Producers who were most vital for Rafisaab's elevation to the top: Mehboob Khan, Guru Dutt, Navketan, AR Kardar, Subodh Mukherjee, Nasir Hussain & Filmistan. Again barring 2, none were Punjabis.
Knowing how humane, amiable and considerate Rafi saab was as a person, it seems highly improbable that to all these people who weren't Punjabi speaking, he would go and talk to them in Punjabi, imposing his own culture over them!! So, that means unfortunately, that either Rafi Saab's son is so parochial that he has completely messed up his facts. Or with age, his memory is loosing its grip. I, for one, am inclined to believe that it's the later, because here is a man, who bumps off SD Burman right after/ during Aradhana! I mean, come on... Were the songs of films like Abhimaan, Gambler, Tere Mere Sapne, Sharmilee, Anuraag - just to mention a few, then composed by a ghost? 🤔😂 I doubt that...
Anyways, good or bad memory, everyone should stay away from making the kind of parochial statements made here, no matter how much harmless they make look on paper. Misrepresentation of facts and information does no one any good. And it's better to keep this in mind.
Otherwise, a good interview.

Nice video. May I suggest the following to the anchor and Rafi Sahab family members :
1. Though the talk was there on R.D. Burman, credit to Madan Mohan, Ravi and above all Laxmikant Pyarelal should be given as they stood by Rafi Sahab during the lean patch and helped him regain the top position.
2. In the history of playback singing only Rafi sahab, lost the crown and regained it.. like fighter Mohammed Ali
3. Though it was discussed about some of the singers who idolize Rafi sahab, I was disappointed that Rafi Sahab's family did not mention SP Balasubramanian , who probably holds all the awards and records in playback singing, but still considered Rafi Sahab as his God, Guru.. and openly announced that no one could sing like Rafi Sahab.. who often visited and stood with Rafi sahab's family . This also would show that Rafi sahab's popularity was beyond hindi belt
4. Yesudas also considered him as his guru
5. I am from Tamilnadu.. But I remember, in 1968 or 1969 when I was very young, Rafi sahab came and sang in Tiruchirappalli, TN ( a town then) - where 99% of people didn't know Hindi - but was a full house - One of my regrets is that I could not attend that program as I could not afford 1 rupee ticket then.
6. Manna Da (His senior) consider him as the best singer ever. Mahendra kapoor, SPB, Yesudas, TMS, PB Srinivas, A.M. Raja, Anwar, Udit Narayan ( his contemporary singers considered him as their idol. Also please mention Saurav Kishan from Kerala, who is called Chota Rafi - It would encourage him further..
7. Proof of Kishore Da respected Rafi sahab - In film Karmayogi - "Aaj faisla hojayega" song - Rafi sahab would sing the final lines to KK, " Jab hum maidan pe aayi gaye, toh samjo ke thum nahi and "TERA BHI BAAP HOON MAIN". If not Rafi sahab, KK would not have sung this song
8. Also please add English subtitles, as majority of Rafi Sahab's fans live beyond hindi/urdu belt.. not only in India, but through out the world

Rafi saab was an enlightened person I believe. He did not see separations of color, cast, class, religion or creed. He saw unity, he saw everyone as one and part of him.
He also never boasted about his singing prowess; rather he saId humbly, that it merely flowed through him. He was like a tree and everyone ate the fruits, including music directors, filmmakers, actors lip syncing his song’s and moviegoing and music audience!
Such a person in whom culminated the gift of song, the talent to sustain it for years, a humble but sweet voice and a heart of gold is rare and may never appear again.
The Faqir he used to run after in his childhood may well have been a sage and probably blessed him.
He use to speak punjabi and proud to be punjabi.Both are resemble to him. Without his voice my day never complete.
