Thank you for the good advice. About to pick up my first pup sometime this coming spring. Trying to soak up all the info I can from experienced houndsmen beforehand. Thanks again this was very helpful
Just a tip here. From experience that we have had with training pups on anything whether it be coon, deer, hogs, or bear. Pups that are able to free roam around the yard tend to make better dogs quicker than a dog kept locked in a pen. If you think about it puppies locked in a pen have a lot of energy built up so when they’re let out they’re not focused right away, they run and play. On the other hand pups allowed to free roam are more down to business and they gain their confidence as well. I would suggest , if you can, letting your pup free roam in the yard until it begins to tree the neighbors cat (if they’re reasonable neighbors lol). We’ve had many pups train there self this way.
I'm a good Jewish houndsman. Black n tans. You don't have to be Christian to be a good person. Good advice to the young people on how to select an appropriate dog. Subscribed.
Tips on getting my hound to hunt alone when hunting competition. She has no problem treeing her own coon ,but when hunting with company she seems to wanna "me too" .
That's a tough one. Not all dogs will be independent. Some are just pack mentality geared. You can try hunting her a bunch solo and maybe using an ecollar to discourage her from backing another do in training. Of course you can't do that while in a competition. But understand that she may never be able to stop backing another dog.
Hey bud just looking for advice, I have a 8 month old black female. She’s tracking and treeing a drag. I’ve only had her on one caged couple on just to see how she did. She stayed on him til you pulled her off. When I take her out to hunt, she stays busy working but stays within a 100ft circle. I’ve yet to see her open up on a track or tree out hunting. I realize she’s young and o don’t mind putting in the time on her. Just needing some general advice. I have a couple buddies with good finished dogs. Should I cut her with them once or just keep cutting her out by her self ?? Thanks In advance bud
She is doing fine for her age, just keep working her but definitely start taking her with experienced dogs sbout half the time. They will help her range out.
Very good, solid advice. I especially appreciate your consideration of what's best for the dog and the need to be mindful of the dog's health, mental as well as physical. These hounds were BRED to be concerned about what their owners want and it's abusive not to be concerned about their welfare in return. People who don't care about their dogs are not houndsmen; they're selfish pigs who don't deserve a good hound.
I need help! Not for hunting but obedience. We’ve rescued an abandoned Walker. Apparently, turned out because she is easily distracted. She was found in the wild, scarred-up; full of pellets...she is a loving dog! But we cannot get obedience taught. Was hoping to learn something here. Nope. Can anyone help?
Thank you for your input i really appreciate it i just figured because i had 2 different thangs told to me i would get your input on it so i can do all i can to benefit the dog
Hey man love your videos. Got a question. I have a 2 year old redbone. Been running him with an old dog an has picked up running fox. What some advice on breaking him from that? Thanks
Need a good shocking system. Run it on him every hunt a hit it on high next time he runs one. If the older dog is running it too quit running with that dog as it may be teaching yours bad habits
@@NITELIFEKENNEL I stopped running with the ol dog an have shocked him last 2 times he ran them. Hope he gets over it quick. Thank you for your help I wanted to make sure I was doing it right.
I wish I could reach through the screen and give you a hug. This is the best advice, not just for hunting dogs but dog ownership in general.
Thank you
Kristin are you a hound hunter. If so what kind and what state. Thank you for your support
I am not a hound hunter, my niece just bought a red bone coonhound puppy so I’m just trying to help her train it. We live in Colorado.
Thats awesome

Good advise man my dad is same way he has always had a nack for keeping a super healthy slick beautiful dog ,I had to ask how lol
What does the term “run trash” mean? Yeah I don’t know anything sorry. I hear this all the time though
Runnin trash basically means the dog is running game or another animal than what it was trained to run or other than what you want them to run
NITE LIFE KENNEL thanks that makes sense haha
Hey i commented a while ago... I got the puppy! He is an x bred but i’m not gonna hunt him in competitions or anything.
