      Bugs me when I see the armchair managers on Twitter siding with Mitchell and the recruitment team over Howe, claiming Howe 'just wants old Bournemouth' players which is such an exaggerated myth. People have short memories on what this guy has done for the club - yes we need a professional structure like other top clubs but we need to respect Howe because not many other managers out there can squeeze out of this squad what he has.

      Not that there is even a battle between Mitchell and Howe, I'm happy with Mitchell coming in and think Howe was just a bit concerned about his security and role - but shocked me some fans were siding with someone they knew nothing about until a few weeks ago.

      @@chrisdonnelly7401 I mean it's hard for us fans to really know what a SD/DofF actually does - Mitchell comes with a big reputation and I'm sure he's very competent, I don't think he wants a power struggle with Howe and it seems they are working well together after the earlier concerns. I don't mind Parish, he does what's right for Palace, he's a great businessman. He's playing the game, trying to get big money for his player which is what we'd expect Eales and Mitchell to do with any of ours. I do think Parish might be a little annoyed we tried to nick Freedman earlier in the summer so he might be holding that against us. I think we'll end up paying what they want but 65m for a proven Prem CB aged 24 is better than 30/40m on someone from another league who might not do the business and we then have to buy another CB down the line.

    Newcastle is 7th or 8th in the wage table. The correlation between wages and results is clear. The fact that Howe has done more with less should make him 100% secure. Give Eddie the players and NUFC gets top 4 most years.

      yep overachieved in first two seasons and pretty much hit where he should be with an injury ravaged squad, very much still the man for the moment - I have no interest in us going for a so called 'elite manager'. When Howe drops below where we would be in the wage table like you say, I'll start worrying but he's worked wonders and deserves a lot of respect.

    Owners PIF have an investment strategy for every £1 spend to make £1.60. Club is now valued at £1.3 billion mainly because of Howe's coaching, player recruitment (Bruno, Issac, Botman, Gordon) and tactics (avoid relegation, get Champions League). If Eales and Mitchell don't deliver for Howe then PIF will back Howe and kick out Eales, Mitchell. Howe has turned a £300 million club to £1.3billion by spending £400 million. Howe is safe

      Not a Newcastle fan but actually forgot he came in initially to just avoid relegation. The team has changed so much and you've got loads of quality now. Is Howe the guy who identified the signings of players like Issac, Botman, Bruno etc? If so considering he also got Champions League well ahead of schedule then any actual talk of replacing him would be madness. Also, which manager is out there who would definitely do better excluding Pep/Ancelotti/Klopp? He seems to have changed the playing style and general mentality too

    • @dddgtsd
      @dddgtsd 2 месяца назад

      Agree with your point and I hope the owners see Howe's competence - I would point out though that in terms of player recruitment, whilst Howe had more power over transfer before, we still had a recruitment team finding players, Nickson is a great scout but of course was working closely with Howe's nephew. Any scout worth his salt would have data on Bruno and Isak, and I imagine we did dating back before Howe's arrival even. Not taking anything away from Howe but I doubt he came in with all the data and reports on Bruno, Isak, Botman etc - but I imagine he had a strong say in signing them.

  • @dddgtsd
    @dddgtsd 2 месяца назад +4

    I'm going to sound like a fanboy but I don't care - in an age where football has lost it's soul and fans feel disconnected from their club, Eddie has restored a lot of people's faith in this team. I was worried when we were taken over by PIF that'd I'd fall out love with football and whilst I am still against state owned football clubs and the grey areas it creates, on a footballing level Howe has made me excited to watch my team each week. He isn't without his faults but he's turned us into a really serious outfit and has connected with the fans again along with mad dog Tindall ofc. When we were struggling last year it saddened me to see people calling for him to go, people have very short memories and I'm so glad he turned things around and earned another season here. I accept the day may come the club outgrows him but that day is far in the future and it might even be the case he outgrows us - the media often say we will inevitably hire an 'elite manager' but why can't Eddie become elite? Not all elite managers were born that way. I don't support my team just to see us win, I watch to see the likes of Joelinton go from a misfiring striker to a beast in midfield, to see Eddie prover everyone wrong and fend off the media calls for Conte or Mourinho, locals lads like Longstaff squeezing every ounce of talent for the club he loves.
    A lot of our fans (the younger Twitter brigade maybe) seem to have become entitled brats similar to that of many Man Utd fans. Calling anyone who isn't Bruno level 'sh*t', turning on Howe for team selection etc but I promise you it's more rewarding if you just support those that work hard for the team.

He'll be replaced as soon as he doesn't deliver on par with the quality of the squad, simple as that. But yes fans can be very paranoid, I think every fan thinks VAR and the PGMOL is against them too.

    Eddie Howe should have a lifetime contract for what he achieved with the club on a yearly basis with such players, when we were dangling over relegation and couldn't buy 3 points till christmas. He should be the last one to be considered to leave. You can't expect consistent top 4 results without the tools for the job, especially considering other team's position.

      got to hope so, I do think them restructuring the top brass accelerates things a bit but simply put, the pressure only rises on Howe if they spent huge amounts of money. We currently have the 7/8th highest wage bill and most the money spent was turning us from a 15th place team to a 7th place team - if they increase revenue and are able to spend say 200m in a window and Howe isn't pushing on and competing for top four then he will be questioned and maybe replaced - for now though with FFP restrictions and the squad we have, Howe is the perfect man.

    Newcastle have the best first 11 outside Arsenal, City. Be wary if we don't get injuries like last season, with no distraction of Europe. I think we are outside bets for a deep title push given our fantastic early fixture list. If the momentum builds and we got a bit of luck, I think with Isak, Gordon, Bruno, Pope, we have the match winners too have a memorable season. No doubt Arsenal and City are the two to beat.

    Phil Hay said if Eddie Howe is gonna coach at a big club, then he’s got to get used this type of structure. But like Chris Waugh said, in most top clubs, the sporting director picks the coach. At Newcastle, this sporting director came after the coach. So it’s a very different dynamic, and it remains to be seen if the SD prefers a different type of coach, but I understand Howe’s uneasiness.

      Exactly, at best it seems that cb would top out at 100m and tbh fees seem to be coming down across Europe. Unless he becomes VVD then maybe you might get a profit.

      not all signings are to be sold on, if we get Guehi on a 5 or 6 year deal, and he is as good as he can be, we could lose him on a free and it'd still be good business - but the reality is he'll be 29 might sign a new deal or we sell for say 50m who knows - the sell on potential is a bonus and is more important if you're signing someone who isn't class from the off, but Guehi will slot straight in you'd think and help us get into Europe which will pay back the fee in itself.

      @dddgtsd 2 месяца назад

      @@Ryan-ys2bq but VVD never made a profit for Liverpool...he was just a very good player. When you pay 65m for a player you accept you make a loss when they leave but you are also buying proven developed quality, so they come in and make your team better, you can sell for half the money and still have gotten a good deal cos they played well. You used VVD which is a great example, he cost what, 100m? But he will likely leave Liverpool on a free, doesn't make it bad business.

    • @Ryan-ys2bq
      @Ryan-ys2bq 2 месяца назад

      @dddgtsd read again, if you are planning on trading players then you shouldn't do that. I used VVD as an example of the level you should be singing for 75m he was, Guehi isn't close to that, he's more Harry McGuire or Fofana level ask Chelsea or United if they'd redo those deals.

    • @dddgtsd
      @dddgtsd 2 месяца назад

      @@Ryan-ys2bq apologies for the misunderstanding - I think NUFC are having to player trade ofc like anyone at our level but we also can make marquee signings who are guaranteed to improve the team and be there for a good stretch of time, with these signings I don't think you need to worry too much about selling on as you won't plan on moving these players on. You seem to agree on that but think VVD is more the level when you're signing a player like that (or say Rice to Arsenal as a good example). Thing is we're NUFC, VVD was one of the best CBs in the world for a good stretch, rare find, we have to go for players we can feasibly sign. Guehi is probably one of the best proven CBs we can sign right now. He is way better than Maguire so I cannot agree with you there, Maguire is limited (albeit better in the air) and they vastly overpaid. Guehi is a better footballer, quicker, more mobile and looks like a super smart lad with potential future captain attributes (with Tripps getting old and Bruno maybe not a complete captain) which is maybe being factored in. 65m may be a bit over the odds but not so much that I'd be massively concerned. He isn't a flash in the pan cos of the England performances, Palace fans have raved about him since he signed. He's a great player and when he's 28 in the last year of his contract, I'd be very surprised if he doesn't fetch 30/40m - that's if we do have to sell.

    This paul Mitchell obsession is comical. Let's judge him on how godd he may or may not be in 2 years' time.

    Not too secure, it's a deciding season for him, he needs a trophy this season or the owners will get uncomfortable, it's not his 3 season no excuses, he's got his group of players, and speaking of the transfer, to start at the beginning of the market with the free market raised eyebrows and we all know nufc don't wake up till the 11th hour to do anything

      trophy? are you for real - he needs to finish top 6 and get us back in Europe simple as that - if he's sacked for anything less then that's madness - we have the 7th or 8th highest wage bill, you can't tell a manager you need to win a trophy or you're out when that is the case. Any early dealings in the window will be free transfers cos they sign when the contract expires, a free transfers of Kelly's quality is great business when FFP is playing a part.
