I'm so glad I discovered your channel. I've forever been an admirer of the black cab drivers knowledge of my favourite city. Many years ago I read a book by a London cab driver, it was called Share my Cab by Robert Buckland. This was a great book and sadly out of print long ago. I think it is so important to maintain the tradition of the London black cab, when faced with so much competition from Uber and other private hire companies. During this Pandemic I think people have come to appreciate the value of a specially designed, made for the job vehicle, which separates passengers from driver giving not only privacy, but a safe environment in which to travel.

Bit of a butterboy question. Do you use an a speed camera ap? Was driving my TXE along maida Vale/Carlton Hill Early Sunday morning & got flashed. Was doing 25. Gutted if ticket comes through. But with the cab being so quiet and smooth i find hard to tell how fast Im going. Enjoying your videos btw
Quick question, I might have accidentally missed it during the video, but do you keep a first aid kit of any sort in your car? Main reason I'm asking is that where I live we are legally required to have an emergency/first aid kit, a warning triangle, and hi-viz vests in our cars at all times. Just wondering if that is not the requirement in England or if its simply something you haven't mentioned because it would be an obvious thing to have as a car owner.
Hi do you carry a fire extinguisher / First Aid Kit and Window Hammer/Seatbelt Cutter ? I find them useful not just for my self but for other road users....
15:30 - Best advise, everyone who owns a car should take their wheel nuts off (you can do them 1 at a time so don't even need to jack up car etc.) and copper slip them. Mechanics rarely use the stuff anymore and new cars come with them assembled dry (for cheapness) - I've used copperslip on almost all fasteners on my vehicles for decades and when it comes to removing bolts it is a dream. I've seen a newish car needing a 6 foot of scaffolding on the brace to get the nuts off only to find the wheel is then seized to the hub and had to be battered off with a 4x4 fence post from behind. Not good.
@Lancashirelad That was not a practical solution given the location, however I have done that before, I drove a Discovery around a field for 15 minutes with the nuts loose and it still didn't come off. 4x4 fence post worked in the end!
Excellent video That food heater is a great idea any links ? Just to clarify if the 12v battery goes flat and you got the jump starter in the front how do you jump start the cab ?Is is through the cig lighter ?
How are you finding your London Cab in terms of reliability and any errors/warnings you've had? City miles are typically more harsher than motorway miles, and I'm assuming you've covered a fair amount of miles, have you had any issues? Warranty claims?
30k + miles. Tyres still good and wearing evenly. Plenty of life in the brake pads thanks to regen braking. Warranty issues included: squeaking bushes, 3x new windscreens, passenger door hinges dropping, cracked header tank/cap. And the odd software glitch that is fixed by soft resetting the cab. I have made a video about the benefits and drawbacks of this cab on my channel 👍🏻
I used to be a licenced cabby many years ago in a provincial town. No two days paid the same. Sunny day, not much work. Rainy day, manic. Friday and Saturday nights were real earners. I also had a couple of Council contracts for school runs. But in those days it was 90% cash and 10% either contracts or accounts. But, all tips were in cash. So with you having most people paying on the plastic, what happens about your tips.
I once read that all London cabbies have to keep a bale of hay in their cab due to an antiquated law from when they were horse drawn carriages. Is that true?
Hi Tom, hope that you're keeping safe during this pandemic, as someone who works in the public transport sector (Bristol Bus Driver), where did you get your cab bag? As like you have to carry cash around and have a coin dispenser. Thanks in advance! p.s Love the videos! Keep them coming 😊
My first car was a Two Door, Morris Minor, 850cc Side Valve and the first thing I did to it was remove the front passenger seat to emulate the London Black Taxi. This was back in 1974/5 when I was in High School.
Hello i just discovered your channel and have a question - If you could drive any london cab in any time period what one would you pick ? (time-travel !)
Don’t know if you are aware but by law any taxi driver must carry a bail of hay in there boot. This goes back to the day when horses pulled the taxis but the law still stands.
Yes heard this a lot, an old ancient bye law pertaining to the old horse drawn Hansoms. This has since been rectified but only as recently as the 90’s!

I need that stove for my TXE - great idea. Where is it from Tom? And does it fit in the foot well of the passenger side?
Be lucky!
Thanks, it’s from Amazon, the link is in the description
Tom the Taxi Driver cheers mate
Hey Tom! Great channel, what North Face jacket are you wearing in this vid?
Hey James,
Think it’s the most basic outer shell. Just a light package rain jacket to keep me dry, I love it 👍🏻
Thanks for the reply tom. Looks sharp 👌
It's cool but I prefer the classic black cab
Lovin' your work 👍
Tom, Tom, you need a St. Christopher to keep you safe on the roads.
Cool video i was in spain once and the taxi driver had her phone on loud speaker lol
Do you still have to carry a miniture bale of hay?
Was wondering the same as it was tradition or something
I once read that all London cabbies have to keep a bale of hay in their cab due to an antiquated law from when they were horse drawn carriages. Is that true?
I am impressed
New to the channel and love it (sub'd)... the centre screen and buttons are from a volvo... hope its better than the sensus system they have
Well spotted, the steering wheel also!
Tom where do you keep your bundle of hay in your cab.martin
Hi Tom, hope that you're keeping safe during this pandemic, as someone who works in the public transport sector (Bristol Bus Driver), where did you get your cab bag? As like you have to carry cash around and have a coin dispenser. Thanks in advance! p.s Love the videos! Keep them coming 😊
Thanks, it’s a Herschel and I got it from Amazon 👍🏻 link in description
Cool !
First aid kit ? Flash light? Visabillity triangle? Glass cleaner I like a cream cleaner like auto glym.
Do you think that it’s worth buying this electric cab ?
@tomthetaxidriver. Your videos are great.
Thank you, and thanks for your time to watch 👍🏻
My first car was a Two Door, Morris Minor, 850cc Side Valve and the first thing I did to it was remove the front passenger seat to emulate the London Black Taxi. This was back in 1974/5 when I was in High School.
What’s the chances getting picked up by you and then seeing this on the recommendations
In the age of location services, I would not be surprised if it happened 😂
Geordie in your cab month or 2 ago
Fascinating.
Hello i just discovered your channel and have a question - If you could drive any london cab in any time period what one would you pick ? (time-travel !)
Oooh! Would have to be the Austin FX4. It is just the most iconic taxi!
I did wonder if you had somewhere to store your golden water :)
Who was expecting him to pull out a baseball bat 😂
Don’t know if you are aware but by law any taxi driver must carry a bail of hay in there boot. This goes back to the day when horses pulled the taxis but the law still stands.
Yes heard this a lot, an old ancient bye law pertaining to the old horse drawn Hansoms. This has since been rectified but only as recently as the 90’s!
Is your mobile still on charge while you wait in a taxi stand?
Good insight but what sort of dollars are clearing a week I suspect it's no more than an Uber driver
A lot more than an Uber driver in the UK.
It's none of our business
