Saw the video recently on the 300ZX being the only affordable halo car left... Just recently bought myself an absolute untouched survivor of a 3000gt and it's been the best thing i could have asked for. I paid 8.3k for 70 thousand miles on it, did the required services to keep it as a daily and for less than 10 grand, it IS still possible to drive an Icon of the era. You just have to have the patience to wait many many months until you find the right car.
I bought a '91 SL back in 2011 or so for less than $2k with around 90k on it by putting a lowball offer in on eBay just before the dealer was going to close permanently. It was a piece of garbage and I was able to return it to the dealer 4 weeks later.

That or do a V8 swap on a clean V6 G8 or Caprice. 6L PPVs used to go for $5,000-6,000, I see G8 GTs for $5,000-7,000 pretty regularly. A running 04 GTO manual or auto 05-06 GTO goes around $5-6k also.

If the oil rings are just stuck and it isnt burning oil because of valve guides or excessive cylinder wear/blow-by, you should be able to get them unstuck with either Seafoam in the vaccum port, run some e85 through it either through the vaccum port or fill no more than 1/3rd of a tank or once its warmed up you can steam clean it by revving it up and slowly feeding it a qt of water...just dont hydalock it. Any of those things could unstick those rings after a few tries, a few early oil changes and you can try adding something like Seafoam or Liquid Wrench to the oil and letting it run 10-15 minutes before you drop the oil. Beyond that, adding some Lucas or running heavier oil might help the ring seal or reduce the oil consumption. Its worth a shot as long as you do the wrong thing the right way it can become the right thing when you dont have much to lose before you give up and swap in another engine or do an overhaul.

Peugeot had a similar line in the manual for the 207, about burning a litre of oil in 700 miles. It wasn't something that affected the cars as they got older, as the head gaskets gave up long before they covered any serious mileage

11:05 The owner's manual for my '94 Toyota pickup (xtracab 22re 4x4 manual DLX) says pretty much the same thing regarding oil consumption being normal, and not talking about break in either. Likely says the same thing in the manual for my '87 4Runner (also manual 4x4 DLX). I'll have to go grab it from the truck to see exactly how it's worded but I remember it being what most anybody would consider to be a high rate of oil consumption lol
