Happily Stained Blanket / Modified Millstone Stitch / Crochet Tutorial

- This video is a mix of an up close look at my finished project and a crochet tutorial on the stitch I used to make it, the modified millstone stitch. I’m calling this blanket Happily Stained. Happily comes from the color of yarn I used. It’s Lion Brand Mandala Ombré in the color Happy for the bright colors. I just LOVE this yarn! And Stained because I was wanting to make a blanket to look like stained glass. And for the black I used Red Heart Super Saver in black. Both are a medium 4 weight. In the video I say I used 4 of the ombrés. Buy 5 to be sure. I tossed the ball bands and while I am pretty sure it was 4, I don’t want you to be short on yarn! And if you have extra, this yarn makes a great fun beanie!

Beautiful colors and a beautiful blanket! Thank you for showing us how easy this pattern is.
Thank you! 😊
It's an elongated double. An extended double means you chain 1 after the initial draw thru, then followed by a normal DC stitch.
Thank you!
I saw a blanket made with your pattern on another channel that was being donated for a charity auction. Of course, you were given credit for the pattern which is how I found you. It was so beautiful and I loved it so much, I had to find you and prayed hard that you had done a tutorial. I'm so thankful that you had one and I intend to make it. Also subscribed and will be checking out your other tutorials to see what other gorgeous things you'll inspire me to make! Thank you for this one, I absolutely love it!
Thank you for letting me know 🥰 and for coming to find my channel. Welcome!
Stunning! I love it. I cannot wait to try this. Thx for the video!
Thank you!!
I love the way you just explained why I had to chain so many and how it worked. One of the best tutorials I've watched❤
Awe thank you 🥰
Such a bold blanket, I love it. Your instructions were clear and easy to follow.
Thank you 😊
I’m in LOVE with this pattern! You did a fantastic tutorial. TU! I can’t wait to start this afghan. I also hate weaving in the ends. You fixed that by using 2 rows of the dark yarn.
Thank you for the nice feedback! Have fun making your blanket 😊
I made this pattern many years ago. I also used black to separate the colors. It was 100% wool. Where you placed your extended doubles, I changed my pattern because I wanted texture. So in those two stitches, I believe I placed cluster stitches. It wasn’t a puff stitch, but it was the texture that I wanted. Beautiful job by the way.
Thank you! Added texture sounds pretty.
Very beautiful!. I have 2 cakes of Happy. I'm going to get 2 more and make this. I already have the black. Thank you for showing us how to make this. 💖🤗
You’re welcome! Have fun making your blanket 😊
I like that you work a sc into the first stitch. Another video I watched did a chain one and skipped the first stitch but on the return had to squeeze a sc into the chain one stitch. I'd prefer doing a sc into the sc on row below. Skipping two stitches and then using two dc on return gives a nice look too (vs only one). Nice modifications! Thanks for your time.
Beautiful blanket 🥰
Thank you! 😊
I always from the back hump as well it look neat
It’s gorgeous! I love the stained glass look and need to make done things like that!
Thank you! I want to make some more stained glass inspired items
Very very nice tutorial…a must try..loved it..👏🥰
Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge. Great tutorials, it really does make a difference when someone explains *why* they're doing something! Best wishes, Sal.

You’re welcome and thank you for watching!
Can't wait to try this, it's beautiful. Thank you for sharing ☺️
You’re welcome and thank you!
This is so pretty & the way you locked in the yarn on the ends is brilliant. I am So Excited. I have this exact brand & color of Mandala yarn in my stash 😊💕🎆🎉🎊🧶🎇 I can't wait to make this for my niece & nephew.👏👏👏
Thank you! Have fun making your blankets. 😊
Thank you for great tutorial. I will be trying this
Thank you for watching! Have fun crocheting. 😊
Beautiful tutorial! Such a beautiful pattern. Thank you so much to show us how to do this and your yarn choice was spot on! Thank you for doing this for us! ❤
Thank you so much!😊
Pretty cool ideas! Like the way you use yarn cakes and highlight the colors. Also the way you carried the yarn up the side. I usually make borders to hide my carries up the side.
Thank you!
I love stained glass anything. This is beautiful. Tks for the tutorial
Thank you! 😊
What a beautiful blanket!!
Thank you 😊
This is about the easiest prettiest lapthrow I've done ❤ I'm obsessed ❤subscribed! Thank you 🎉❤

Magnificent blanket ❤ Excellent tutorial. Very clear. Thank you so much for sharing. I think this means i need to go shopping for black yarn now 😮 Hard for me to see to work with it, so don't have much. But for the stained glass look, it's definitely needed
Thank you Stephanie!! 😊
So what I’m seeing is that I need to buy more yarn. lol. Darn. I was so close to getting my “not buying yarn chip”. Like a bonafide one day no yarn buying chip. lol. As Scarlett said- tomorrow is another day. lol.
😂😂
So beautiful. It makes me want to make one this year.
Thank you! You’ll have to send me a picture of you make one

Thank you! Shades of purple with grey sounds beautiful!
Great tip for 'locking' your yarn to carry up the side. You may have just converted me!😍
Yay! I’m all for sharing any tips and tricks that have saved me from having 9000 tails to weave in. 😁
Beautiful blanket saw you on Jeannies Monday night live. Have saved the tourtial to make when I get the All in the Family blanket finished. Not sure what color but definitely use black for the like your pattern is.Thanks for sharing with us.🎉😅is 💙💜💛💕
Thank you!! 😊
I think it's just called DC 2 rows down. I believe an extended DC is (go in, pull up a loop, yo pull thru 1, yo pull thru 2, yo pull thru 2). I'm checking this out again.
Not confusing at all. Thank you so much!!!! Perfect!!!
You’re probably right. I have a lot of stitch combos in my head that I saw my grandma do or another family member or I saw them in a magazine or stitch book ages ago but I haven’t a clue what the official name is for them now, I just know how to do it. I’ve been trying the last few years to learn the official names. And I have learned some have multiple “official” names 😂😂
@@beecreativecrafts I hear you! Why can't we just use one name and let it be?! I have a real hard time learning all the stitch names. Good luck!
? If I do a live and I talk about this pattern and tell them it's your pattern, would that be wrong of me?
@@jenreeves7684 Thank you!! That would be sweet of you! It’s a modified millstone and I haven’t seen anyone do it but I’m sure it’s out there in the universe somewhere by someone else too. 😊
@@beecreativecrafts thank you. I'm not sure if I will do it but we'll see. I'm enjoying making it though. Frogged it again but it's looking good now. Up, up, and away!
This is a beautiful blanket and yarn. What could go wrong? Lol. I just bought some of the most beautiful yarn that I may just have to try this with. Not great on seeing the black so I’ll have to figure that part out, but Thank you for your sweet tutorial. New Sub here. ✌🏻🤍
Thank you and welcome!! And I agree, sometimes black is a beast to work with.
Note to self, foundation stitch w 1 rw sc on top❤
I am making one of these right now but using ROYBGIV solids and in the round
Sounds beautiful!
This will be my new project. My question is which rows are done in the black? Is it a designated pattern. Love the colors you've chosen so much that I ordered the same. As for the black, I plan to use a different color to highlight. Working with black will destroy what little vision I have left? As the other ladies have stated, your instructions are so exact......some of us senior ladies need all the detail we can get!
You should be able to substitute out the black easily for another color. In my tutorial I use the grey in place of the black, so you’ll just need to start with the color you’re substituting in for the black. You’ll do 2 rows with the substitution color then 2 rows of Happy and then back to the substitution color. Happy crafting!
@@beecreativecrafts You are awesome. I'll make a note on the SAVED tutorial. Thank you. My yarn should arrive Monday and I can't wait to start.
I LOVE this blanket. Would this pattern work with a three size yarn. Please reply soon.
Thank you! Yes it will work with a 3 wt yarn. You’ll just need to adjust your starting chain to the width you want your project to be and keep it in multiples of 12 + 11. Happy crocheting!
Couid you tell me how how many skeins of Mandela you used. Thx
I used 4 skeins of the Mandala Ombré for the throw size.
@@beecreativecrafts thank you
@@gailspencer6364 you’re welcome ☺️
@@beecreativecrafts is there a written pattern for this
I just saw your follow up question. I don’t have a written pattern for it at this time.
