Thank you for the view of Oakhurst times past. The town is a bustling city during tourist season now. We even have rush hour traffic! What's rush hour traffic? Hotel check-in times. 😆
I'm really grateful for this little video. So many great memories came flooding out of it. I was a junior in high school when this was shot. I could almost see my dad's sign shop next to Burger King. Just makes me smile.
This is 3 years before we moved to Coarsegold. I'm Yosemite High class of 91. Worked at the KFC in the video right after high school. It's really cool to see Oakhurst how it was back then. A nice trip down memory lane.
I was a 'resident' at Ahwahnee Hills School for Boys in 83-84. I was one of the few that left the main campus and went to group homes in the area. I still live in Fresno to this day.
Looks like the same shithole now as it did then prolly not a many feins running around stealing shit outta cars breaking in to buildings smoking fent and doing meth in the park yeah you right totally the same
You should have seen it in 1965. I was five at the time and after that we would go to Yosemite every year. I remember a fast food place called Bigfoot drive-in or something like that, we would stop there and grab some burgers. Thanks for the comment.
@@chrisglazener3613 I guess the population of the L.A. area in creased, and consequently more L.A. area residents visiting Yosemite. Now, you need reservations to drive into Yosemite. Far different than the 90's when the traffic signals went up, let alone the '80's when there was only a 3-way stop.
@@mejercit Yeah I lived there until 2022 so I'm familiar with all the reasons why and how it changed. My daughter graduated from Yosemite High in 2021 and my parents, brother, etc are still there so I visit as well.

Great video. I was born in Ahwahnee in 1950. I've lived in the area all of my life.

@@paulapsley3712 One of my uncles was a resident there during WW2 when he had TB. It was a sanitorium back then.
@@khakhy Indeed, I remember being told that.

My hometown! Since moving to Michigan 17 years ago, it's nice to see 'back home' when it still felt like home!

@@davidsilva7320 that's awesome! Also check out Judy's donuts! That's her family's business!
@@commonwealthh Nothing Better than a good donut shop.
In 1984, I met with a Navy recruiter at that Burger King. I ended up going Army, but got a free lunch out of it.
It looks so different but yet still the same. Crazy, honestly.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
I work at that restaurant they said looks like a really nice place to stay, it looks kinda just like that still. This video is cool as hell

Where were the traffic lights?
There were no traffic lights installed until the early to mid-90's.
