What an underrated actor. I wonder why he hardly got leading roles when he's perfect to play the leading man.
He said he looks for the roles that he thinks will be challenging or interesting, so maybe that's partly why he hasn't gone for some leading roles? Leading characters are often way less fun than secondary and supporting roles. I think he would be a really cool villain- not the smarmy jerkward type he has played before, but a real cold smart bad guy.
To me , Marsden seems like a character actor, an extremely good looking one, in the vein of Rob Lowe and Alec Baldwin (back in the day).
He's kind of the main guy in Hop. 🐇
He was sort of a lead in Enchanted. Like, his character was supposed to be a lead in a Disney movie but things got screwed up by his step-mother so he didn't exactly end up the leading male. But his leading male-ness still shone through and he was brilliant as the heroic prince. A perfect follow up to his tv host role in Hairspray. That was like the year of James Marsden.
It's because he's TOO perfect. He's the good guy who really should get the girl, but then Wolverine or Superman or someone comes around.

He is such a hustler. He is literally in every movie genre and he is just great in everything. Not a snobby character actor who only does drama and is 24/7 in characer. He can do that in a beat if a role reacquire, he is that versatile and his dramatic/comedic timing is always on top. Also he seems like a good guy.

I met him when he came back to Oklahoma and talked to my drama class as I went to the same middle school he did and his old classmate was then my teacher. I remember him being extremely kind, attentive, charismatic in a real way, and smelled unbelievable.

Actors like James Marsden make movies feel so real. Usually he plays the "secondary" characters but they are the ones who make the movie feel lived in and makes the audience accept the world they're watching. Amazing, I've seen him in so many films one after the other "oh, he was in that one, right!!" I guess I forget because he's just such a good actor, blends into the world perfectly. Love this guy!!

When Dolores reprogrammed Teddy into a killing machine, the distinct transformation in JUST Marsden's eyes (cold, empty, mechanical, violent) was more compelling than the physicality of his performance, which was inspiring in itself. He deserves much more attention than he is receiving.
I was sad to see Teddy go... But in the end Dolores did do something good for him.

He’s so versatile. He can do comedy. Musicals ...drama , westerns, horror and action adventure. He doesn’t even age.

Agreed. He's way more than just a pretty face, he brings a solid act to everything he does and has ever done period. I've *never* been disappointed with any of his roles, none! He's just that talented, and it's clear he works really hard for that to happen. Few other actors and actresses are the same, it's just so rare. I really hope to see him again in a future Westworld season, and especially on the big screen!

Lots of people bleach their teeth. But the teeth can be very sensitive after that.
Gotta say this: the singing in Enchanted is phenomenal. True love's kiss is one of the best Menken songs and as performed by Amy and James it's among the top best disney songs ever. Some of the best singing at Disney ever, too. Right, for male parts - Aladdin has awesome songs, mediocre singing compared to less-known Prince Edward, Hercules FANTASTIC songs, again not at the level of James' singing. Etc. In that 2 part harmony near the end with Amy Adams, he sounds like a professionally trained tenor, really above and beyond most other male singers/actors in animated disney reainessance movies. Live action - you got Luke Evans recently. Anyway, great stuff.

I think the most impressive thing about him is the fact that a lot of the movies he's been in have been huge successes and I remember him and all of these movies and now that I think about it this man has an amazing career absolutely star-studded if he hasn't he'll get an Oscar
James Marsden is FANTASTIC in Dead To Me
I hated his character so much, and then loved his other character, and then began to understand the first character a little better. Trying not to spoil here. Point is, such complex emotions were presented on screen!
Really glad they included Dead to Me - I watched it really fast and then moved on and almost forgot it was basically his most recent role! Yeah he was great. Always love seeing the guy pop up anywhere.
He is so effortlessly charming. Obviously, he's very handsome, but he also has a humility to him where it feels like he's never just coasted on his looks alone. He talks several times in this video about how he just feels fortunate to be acting and is enjoying it, and we, the audience, can feel it. Looking forward to his next projects when this crazy situation we're in passes.
Death At A Funeral is one of the most underrated comedies to date.

I feel like James deserves another shot at a superhero role, like Ryan Reynolds and Ben Affleck; Cyclops was a great character but James is just so great in everything and he can do anything, so he deserves a second chance

I just happened to watch Dead to Me, Sonic and Westworld back to back and was SHOOK by how talented he is. Watched a lot of his stuff before, but never fully realized how brilliant of an actor he is. He can play all kinds of genres and parts.
This guy was the perfect cyclops and with better writing he could have been up there with the RDJ and Jackman iconography of comic book characters. Seriously, he was perfect casting.
It was too bad the leader of the Xmen wasn't given a bigger role in the movies

Seems to be a very intelligent guy, who just seems to enjoy/appreciate acting and filmmaking. Never comes across like he feels the need to be the center of attention. Over the years I never paid too much attention to him but as time has gone on he has really built up quite a nice portfolio.

Missed his character? I love Teddy, but his characters whole purpose is literally to be a punching bag. To be used. His purpose was to keep Dolores in her loop, and as MIB says, to be the loser. Then he is sort of forcibly awakened by Dolores, who then sees he won’t survive the way he is and tries to change him. The whole purpose of his character is for him to further Dolores’ storyline. I wouldn’t say it’s a misuse if that’s the whole point of him being in the show.
Truth. I was so pissed and disappointed. Especially the wasted n lost potential w his character n actually showing off the acting talent he has but they just threw his character away.

My younger cousin met him, in Tesco of all places (in the UK) and he was kind enough to stop and take a photo with her.
Seems like a great guy and he looks about 15 years younger than he actually is!
Anyone else notice how much older and worn-down he looks in his most recent movies with all that make-up they cake on him? Yet, here he looks like he's still in his early thirties with a clean face. I'm happy for him though, seems like a genuinely nice guy despite the bad calls his on-screen make-up team has been making.

When you think about it,, he's really the prototype Chris. He's the original quintessential superhero actor. He was cast in Superman Returns because he's Superman without the powers.

Disturbing behavior was actually a good movie, I watched it for katie holmes, she was popular at the time, like zendaya now, but came out liking the movie, I think there's a sequel if I remember right.

I fell in love with this guy the first time I saw X-Men as a kid. Only saw half his face and I was like “daaaaaannnng”. Lol, several years later I discovered, on my many of viewings, that he was on The Nanny. I love that show and never realized it was him. I loved this! I really wish they included 27 dresses! It was such an amazing film but still really love James in Westworld and Dead to Me so it was amazing to hear his thoughts on them too. Can't believe I didn't realise he was in Hairspray and The Notebook though! I'll have to rewatch them to appreciate it all over again!
I'm glad he spoke about Gossip because it's a really underrated thriller, I love the unexpected plot twist at the end and I love those in films or TV. I would recommend Gossip to anyone

He was and still would be the perfect Cyclops. He still looks young enough you could go with an older OG 5 in the MCU. Marsden can play comedy better then most actors in the MCU and he has dramatic chops to do what they like to do with their films.
I went to high school with james; we were in choir class together he was a year ahead of me. We called him Jimmy. I was the only black guy in choir lol
