    You should check out the live acoustic version where Tobias plays The Kazoo of Destiny! It's hilarious 😂 . The second part is Surf Rock by the way 😀

    The song is about nostalgia, about longing for something that was in the past. And sometimes when you have a memory of something that happened in the past turns it into something that it might not have been.
    Nameless Ghoul:
    "She is the romanticized idea of either a being or a time being lost. It is about nostalgia. The absence of time or a person or a being or something has a tendency to fog up the idea of what the actual nature of that thing or person is. I have been out on the road for a month, I’m longing to go home. Right now, my home is more and more dreamlike. Not that I don’t remember how it looks, but it has this ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ filter on it. It makes it look a little bit more shiny, it has a golden filter on it. Nostalgia is a very interesting thing, it can create wonders and destroy minds."

    So Ghost when they started and for several years were anonymous because they all wear masks. There is the lead singer who is the character Papa Emeritus, and the instrumentalists are called the Nameless Ghouls. They used to be only male, but when they added females they nicknamed them Ghoulettes. Ghouls, as in the folklore creature not related to the band, are evil spirits similar to zombies who feed off dead bodies and corpses in tombs and graveyards.

    I saw Ghost in their infancy at Sweden Rock Festival, shortly after their first album release. They were way more sinister and occult in their stage presentation and Tobias/Papa Emeritus I didn't speak at all. I was instantly hooked by the music and show.

    The "Zombie Queen" half of the song feels like Zydeco/Creole music to me, which is fitting given the subject matter. Seeing them preform this in concert makes this track really shine. It gets pretty frantic by the end of the song!

    • @jimcestaro7194
      @jimcestaro7194 2 года назад +2

      Right on! I always thought the same thing. Kind of has a New Orleans feel or something that would have gone great for the True Blood soundtrack.

  • @Laerei
    @Laerei 2 года назад +10

    In much of the stories, ghouls are very much like zombies, rotting undead walking the earth, but unlike zombies they are smart, able to speak and are very agile and strong. In some stories, ghouls are made by vampires either intentionally or unintentionally, in some cases by killing the victim while feeding. In any case, they are often servants of more powerful undead.

    This song is awesome live and so is the acoustic version with the kazoo. One of my favorite songs and I love the transition from slow to surf metal and then the banger of an ending. This one is a crowd pleaser you have to sing along in concert to this one.

  • @cechumbley
    @cechumbley 2 года назад +3

    You are both right. Jennifer nailed her analysis of where Ghost was at this time; still playing smaller venues and building thier names and doing what it takes to get noticed while still being true to the original vision. Jason is also right in that I absolutely love 99% of what Ghost puts out, but some tracks just don't move me. I soften on some songs on repeated listens, but no one bats 1.000 artistically. Love your two's passion for music!

    Spot on with the discussion at the end. Tobias Forge LOVES classic horror movies, classic metal and rock, and theatrics. He said he has loved that stuff since he was very young when his older brother introduced it to him, so it definitely makes sense why the Ghost project came to be.

    A ghoul is the reanimated corpse of someone who died of hunger, usually associated with those who ate human flesh before their passing in order to survive. It's similar to the Wendigo myth of native American culture.
    That being said, they are far more related to a "typical" zombie, than a spiritual apparition.

    Old Ghost is different from New Ghost for sure. This one is repetitive and a slow burn, I think it's meant to be because it's like a chanting ritual. And with how theatrical and bombastic Ghost is, it's a great fit.

    Constructive feedback: you guys pause too much through the song and also too long talking in those pauses. One can barely say this is a reaction, because it looks way more like an "analysis". It toally breaks the vibe and, at many points, makes you guys miss some very important details that can only be noticed when you listen to it continuously. I hardly suggest you just listen to the song first, take mental notes and at the end you discuss and let out everything you have to say.
    It's just a personal opinion, of course. But that drove me away from your videos and I'd gladly come back due to that change.
    All the best o/

    • @FlameImperishable
      @FlameImperishable  2 года назад +1

      I appreciate your feedback and articulating it in a positive way! I get your point about potentially missing details sometimes. But of course, that is going to happen since it is a first reaction regardless of the pausing. Plus, if I don't immediately share my thoughts as they happen, I'll forget and trying to figure out where in the song each thought I had occurred wouldn't be practical. Perhaps we can arrive at a compromise... while the pausing/discussion is never going to stop, I can back up the song a few measures before the pauses when we resume each time. I hope you'll give us another chance in the future. Our channel is growing fast and the feedback we get from most people has been that they love the way we do things. Take care!
