Ringo Starr is an amiable, likeable scouser. Unfortunately, what he is not is a good drummer. In fact, he wasn’t even the best drummer in The Beatles.
I’ve heard all the revisionist nonsense about Ringo’s abilities over the last few years, but that’s all it is: nonsense.
By contrast, Charlie Watts was a fantastic drummer. His minimalist style in The Rolling Stones often hid his natural jazz style, but what he did in the Stones is always, always perfect.

Brian seems to indicate here that he felt that Mick and Keith had a successful band when he "met up" with them. That would explain why he wanted to join them. The line up on stage at the Marquee indicates that he did join them because he and ian were there and the band he "met up with",remained intact.

Why do Rolling Stones fans have to lie about the Beatles in order to validate their favorite band? The Beatles were never clean cut. When they came to the US critics complained about the length of their hair. Later they wrote a song with the lyrics, "you better run for your life if you can little girl, hide your head in the sand little girl, catch you with another man that's the end little girl." As for 'dirty' sounding songs, I guess you never heard of the White album that is chock-full of them. Revolution 1, Helter Skelter, and Everybody's Got something to hide except for me and my monkey. Please stop pretending that the Stones didn't copy the Beatles on every album. It's pathetic

Why do many Beatles fans and many Stones fans have this dogmatic view that you can only be a fan of one of them? Victims of silly media campaigns over the years. I love them both. The Beatles were better at some things IMO such as songwriting. The Beatles never had the swagger and drive of the Stones. They are different in manty ways and quite similar in others. You may not like both or you may prefer one over the other but it reeks of bitterness and insecurity to feel one has to try to put the other down, in my most humble opinion that is.

@paulg6302 Good points mate! The thing is the Beatles completely changed the whole course of popular music, you only have to listen to it before 1962 and then listen to it in 1970 when the Beatles split up, it was a completely different musical landscape!. Even if Garth Brooks or Taylor Swift eventually outsold the Beatles I don't think anybody would be silly enough to say their better than the Beatles! In fact the last time I looked the Beatles are still miles in front of everyone. It's the Beatles music that is timeless which is why every generation gets it, they have done every genre imaginable from Pop to Folk to country to Jazz to Blues, to ballads to psychedelic to Heavy metal to Avant-garde. They went out when they were on top and left a body of work that has been covered by everyone from Sinatra to Oasis! There have been great bands from The Stones to Led Zeppelin who I also like but the Beatles musical output leaves them all in the shade and what's more astounding is that they accomplished all this in 8 years!

Just listen to Rubber Soul and what the Stones made around that time. Then, you listen to Revolver and compare it to what the Stones made around the same time... and on and on, all the way till Abbey Road. No comparison, at all...

By some measures, you could easily claim the Stones are No.1 but this is also true of Led Zepplin, perhaps Pink Floyd, and I'm sure there are others. Where do we place Bob Dylan? He did blues, folk, rock n roll. What about AC/DC? How can we compare them to the Beatles or Queen.?
