My mother was born at the western end of the valley in 1925 - left to go to Cal Berkeley in '45, married, raised a family in SF, 1951 - 57. The family returned to the valley in mid-1957. I can still remember driving to San Jose via Stevens Creek Rd. in the pre- 280 days - lots of apricot, cherry & prune orchards interspersed with Eichler tracts in the Cupertino area. - Tony Arioli
Thank you for sharing. My family came here in the late 70's from Mexico. I was born and raised here in San Jose. From time we talk about how it used to look and all the orchards, greenhouses, no traffic and very peaceful.
There's a horse trail in Los Altos Hills that borders a 67 acre apricot grove owned by the Packard Family Foundation. It's one of the last apricot groves left in Santa Clara valley of its size and ironically a remnant of past agricultural glory that HP played a large part in transforming orchards to Silicon Valley.

One of the greatest American experiences ever. The sound track was out of this world. Only in par with hoover dam and the super bomb
