This is very solid advice! When I coding, I was the same way, and I would jump into writing code with 0 planning or prep haha. I also think soft skills are waayyy underrated for devs.
This was a really good video to learn more in depth about how to improve as a junior developer. This really helps me cuz I am on the line of that Junior-to-Mid level developer. I have 2+ years professional experience and I also have a BS in CS degree. So the first thing that came to mind was when I read my Software Engineering book when I took that class - learning the SDLC, Software Development Life Cycle. I have been trying to take the initiative of thinking before coding and thinking back to those core fundamentals and processes and planning that come with coding, with solving problems, or finding solutions. Love this, I love your videos, they’re very helpful! I have ADHD and I’m also a parent of 5 as well and so I saw that video about making time for coding.
It sounds like you're really taking your growth seriously. That's awesome to hear. I'm sure you're going to make a great mid-level developer with that mindset!
I have a basic understanding of JavaScript, but I want to deepen my knowledge. Unfortunately, I often get sidetracked by other technologies like Shopify or other email development skills. My goal is to stay focused on JavaScript until I have a strong grasp of it. Thanks for sharing ways to level up.
Could you guide me into what resources/courses to learn Shopify development? More so on the FE side of things. I know plugins sre more of a backend thing.
I’d like to know what you and Don mean by “fundamentals” exactly, like what topics do I have to study and face exactly to learn these “fundamentals” is it complex loops?, maybe recursion?

Lol, I'm starting in reverse. I have good soft skills, I also take ownership and think about projects. But, I'm also 35 switching into coding now. So... For me it's more of a skill issue.

I knew you were gonna say fundamentals. This is what I’ve realized too. Frameworks are powerful but the basics matters more

ngl, examples for #1 would help - pretty sure i'm ok though - i could definitely build a webpage without react.
