"What people would much rather see, is you doing something you love to do". Thank you for doing that, and putting yourself out there. I'm freakin 40, and only just climbing out of a life strongly driven by what I think others want of me, fear of failure and judgement. Treatment for ADHD and learning about autism has changed my life. And seeing folks such as yourself be authentic, honest and open, makes me not envy the success you have had and deserved, but to pursue that freedom for myself, and to take a bet on myself.
Anyway didn't mean to glaze you up there, just wanted to say thanks for being a real one. Thanks mate.

I didn't know his calculus story. Although I never was described as a bad student, I never academically succeeded and I ended up taking a second run at calculus during a summer semester. I worked hard my first time and I worked even harder my second time. I've never worked so hard before or frankly since. I ended up scraping through calculus... If effort and time were reliable measures I should have done a lot better. It definitely hurt my ability to back myself. But I've persisted... Progress has been slow, but it could be worse.
I've just started a new job recently and it definitely challenges a few of my weakest points - but the reason I took the job is because I knew I had to back myself and it seemed like a good opportunity to finally take that step into a more senior/lead role. Even if I don't end up with a lead/senior title while working there (a rocky start unfortunately) I am confident that by the time I finish, I should be set up to step into a senior role. Again, slow, but it could be worse.

In some places any academical subject is designed for you to fail. The language is as abstract as possible and if you ask for a simpler explanation you are met with superiority and disgust and the answer is: Get smarter or there's no way I can explain it to you. Teachers are determined to make you feel small and they have zero interest in making the material talk to you.
I remember doing genetic programming which is simple and nice. You start with different random solutions and you modify a number, combine them (they are pretty much arrays) and such, easy stuff. But if you read the course material, even 10 years after finishing my courses, I couldn't understand anything of it.

I'm not here for Laravel (though they’re great at PHP), I’m here for Primeagen! His story always fires me up to keep going. I’ve had my struggles too-being visually impaired made me an easy target for bullying. Since I spent so much time in front of a computer, I decided to pursue becoming a developer, since this was the only thing I could do without embarrassment.
Like Prime, I had my "aha" moment in University. I went from barely paying attention to being the person people asked for tips and solutions. The key change for me was shifting from "studying to pass" to "studying to learn for myself." That mindset shift made all the difference.
Now, working mostly as a Java developer, I still hold onto that mentality. I love Prime’s message in this video, and just want to add: even if people think you're a "loser" or say "you can't do any jobs," don't listen to them. Find what you love, and stick with it!
