[4K] Pere Marquette 1225 - Return of the REAL Polar Express

- Pere Marquette 2-8-4 1225 returns to the mainline following major repairs. The 1941-built Berkshire operated in Michigan for the majority of its service career. It has operated in excursion service since the 1980s, and notably was the sound and visual model for the titular locomotive in the 2005 movie "The Polar Express." In the years following, it has led Christmas-themed trips out of Owosso, MI.
The 1225 sat out the 2022 for major running gear work, its most major since the its revenue days. Thanks to the talents of the staff of the Steam Railroading Institute and contractor FMW Solutions, the 1225 returned on the 2023 North Pole Express. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the 1225 finally performing like new, and hear from SRI executive director Dean Pyers about the many rewards of the work.

I rode this train with my grandsons back before the COVID crisis...We rode in one of the restored passenger cars and it was an experience I'll cherish forever!

My late father, my son and I got a chance to be up in her cab many years ago when we paid a visit to SRI. They were just starting to fire her up and it was interesting to watch. What a thrill to ring her bell!

I’d love to see the 1225 come through Columbus Ohio on a excursions from dear born Michigan tthrough Ohio through the month of December if possible I have a nephew who loves the polar express and plus the. Polar express was my all time favorite Christmas book to read around the calendar Just respectfully asking if sometime you could come through Ohio excursion please and thank you but I know that you have other things, and it’ll take some time for your steam crew to plan this out if possible ps please and thank you
1225 is already scheduled for all of December to run out of Owosso to Ashley for the North Pole trips.

Spot on video I’m glad to have the 1225 back in service I have to admit her whistle sounds a lot better than it did back in the 1990s when it was air valve controlled I think that was because the whistle was cracked correct me if I am wrong I don’t know the whole story behind that honestly
1225 looks like 765
They are both Lima 2-8-4 Berkshires built off the same designs, albeit with minor changes.
