I've worked in biochemistry and molecular biology labs for almost a decade. The laminar flow hood will actually increase the likelihood of contamination compared to just doing it on a table top. The laminar flow hood brings in air from the outside in and moving all that air on your things, where if you're doing it on a bench top then there is less airflow going around. That's why these hoods are meant for using chemicals that you don't want to inhale. In a real TC hood, there is an air curtain that is created so that no outside air can go inside. It is possible to be pretty sterile on a table top for this purpose, where if you keep your things closed as much as possible and your flame going and keeping it close to your work surface, and you open your things close to the flame. That flame kills off anything in the air that can contaminate your work so it creates a little sterile bubble.
Interesting! That makes sense. I’ve had little to no contamination with the hood. The air is double hepa filtered, but what you’re saying makes sense! Maybe I’ll just keep the fans off next time 😄
@@prettyingreen yes we call that a "dead box" and allows blockage of air flow so it's a better suggestion then what I was saying above about not using a hood. I mainly wanted to mention it so people who start doing TC can do so without thinking they need a whole hood. It's very cool you have such a set up though.
In sterile compounding for pharmaceuticals, we use a hood but the airflow comes from the back of the hood (filtered to 2 microns) and flows outward to keep the airflow within the hood sterile.
I find this subject fascinating. Thank you for showing this, actually slowed the video down so that I see what you were doing in more detail as it was a bit quick for my old brain lol. Looking forward to seeing what happens with the albo as well as the mint if that is what it turns out to be. I’ve grown several plants our from tissue culture so far with good results my newest one being a spiritus sancti which is doing really well 🤞🏽.
I want that shirt, custom order - causal workday Friday approved just sayin 😝 omg can’t wait for one of the adorable Santi babies! 😍 6:52 haha love the title. Thanks for sharing insights and the history in the making, behind the scenes of Pretty in Green!
I ordered an Albo tissue culture on Etsy from an awesome shop in Canada, and it’s absolutely beautiful and bigger than I expected! It’s growing quickly and it’s new leaf should be done unfurling by tomorrow!
@@LateBloomerPlantCo he deleted my comment saying where, despite it being in a different country and not a direct competitor of his. So Apologies. If you have an Instagram you’d like to post the name of, I can send you the name on there instead!
I have been working TC of M albo for a while. Although I selected the good variegated nodes, however, I still have the issue that they provided just a few variegated TC plants while the green and the albo are the major populations.
Your last two drops are 🔥🔥!! Thanks for educating us. Would you mind sharing your multiplication media formula and the incubation conditions? I started experimenting with TC after seeing your Thai Con video but now it’s been 6 months and have not had any success 😔
Can someone make a clear video on how to TC Monstera deliciosa? All I've seen with Monstera is stem culture but, on the other hand, I keep hearing that you can use any part of a plant for TC, so I'm quite confused. I'm looking to get into TC but if all you can do with Monstera is stem culture, I might as well propagate it by taking cuttings and not invest in high-tech equipment.
Tissue culture seems like a waste since you can only basically propagate a spot that makes a new leaf in the jelly, why wouldn't you take those same precautions in your propagation substrate? If I'm correct all that really takes place is you basically just skipped the node and regrew the plant from the part that produces the leafe which in my eyes is just super complicated propagation? Correct me if I'm wrong? I applaud you for your dedication to the process which I'm sure was quite the feat in its own just to learn.
I had no idea you could do TC from home like that. mad scientist vibes, love it. Eager to see what happens

@@Jenny-bc1lr yea I like to start with TC do you have some tips?
Im an astronaut and you actually don't need a spaceship to get to the moon.
I am loving your style of videos. Your doing such a great job sharing all the great info us plant lovers want to know.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed ☺️

That's odd, I live in Canada and lurk on Etsy quite often and I haven't seen a TC shop from Canada around.
This is amazing
💚Good lord, you’re going deep! WE’RE going deep (bites nails).
Please pick me for the Thai ❤❤
This is such a cool and amazing process, to some degree, it reminds me of the process of orchid growing. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.
This was super interesting. Thanks for sharing!

I have officially determined that monsteras are my type of plant and I love all mine!
Damn, that’s really cool. I’m also experiencing one of my tissue culture thai constellations repeatedly rotting/damping off.
I have one question where is the best place to get the jars and lids ? any help would be amazing thank you
This was so interesting! ❤
Very cool, thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for watching 😃
I love monsteras!
So interesting! 💚
Very informative ty 😊
Super cool man, im making the dive into TC so any help you have for me is much appreciated.
I've wondered how this was done. Thanks for the info.
Sterilization is key in TC. Did a few labs in school with it.
Commenting for the Thai!!!! 🎉🎉❤
did it work, are there any updates for the progress and results ?
Great channel, subbed :)
Good information
So interesting!

So now i want to go and buy stuff for tissue culture just for fun!.
Can you make multiple daughter plants culturing tissue with only one bud?
Yes! That’s the essence of the multiplication stage of tissue culture 😄
@@prettyingreen Very good... I hope you plan to continue with this sample and show us the multiplication stage.
I have a TC Albo. So far it’s seems fine. Very random variegation.
Very informative video. . Thanks
Is there a follow up to this video?
Love your vids! Always so informative! Per your Thai Con give away, you said comment on the latest video. Hope I did it right! 🎉
Hey now! You just threw out a giant statement! Please tell me you have a video coming on the Thai->mint hypothesis. That’s super interesting.
Hahahahaha I’ve still got more research to do on that one 👀 But once I have something definitive…😄
any updates on progress of whether or not it was a success?
This got contaminated unfortunately. But albo and aurea are being heavily tissue cultured in asia already.
Very interesting
Did it work
Commenting to hopefully own a Thai constellation one day ❤
I wanna check out your flow hood.
I need help rooting my albo

Ok but where the video about mint coming from Thai con??!!!?
So only one TC per node?
Yes!
@@prettyingreen Why not propagate with cutting with leaf and not go through with sterilization and get larger leaf growth?
How did it go then ?
I believe this one got contaminated 😒 But albo is being tissue cultured!
I want a Thai constellation!!!
Any updates?
Any update?
What happened? There’s no update video?! lol
Good luck! It would be great if it works.
Is there an update coming for this? 😂
I lost this one! But I’ll be taking new albo tissue culture cuts soon!
@@prettyingreen great can't wait to see!!
Done!! Please pick me for the Thai ❤❤❤😍😍I’m never going to be able to afford one.
Sooooo, what happened?
This albo got contaminated unfortunately 🥲
@@prettyingreen that sucks.
I want to win!
got 42
42 albo tissues!? 😅
Tissue cultures still confuse me😂😂
Actually it is of no use in this type of videos without giving the correct initiation medium with hormones used.
Hi I want a free Thai Con😂
😂
Meeee pick meee
One day..
Wow, who would have known!! The drama of it all would be Netflix worthy... Wait, why if it was perfectly done here!! 🤌
Thanks guys! 🪴😀👍🫶
