Just wanted to do a quick video on how to install a bluetooth adapter for the BMW Business CD unit for E46 platform. This is definitely the highest quality adapter you can get that also works with phone calls rather than the super cheap $10 ones you see online that aren't very reliable. Super easy to keep that OEM look or if you want the bluetooth connectivity without having to buy a whole new aftermarket head unit. Let me know if you plan to have one or end up ordering one!

!!!!QUICK TIPS!!!!
1. You will absolutely need to take the trey out (if you have a trey) to tuck wires, black box etc.
2. You will have to remove front air ducts to remove trey.
3. I recommend you tuck the large prong on the left side inside the car toward the steering wheel and the black box on the right side toward the glove box, this worked beautifully for me.
3. You have to tuck all your stuff in first before you put the trey back in and leave enough slack for the prong attaching to the prong you tucked in to stick out to plug in the back of your stereo.
4. It’s not as hard as it’s seems, in the video it’s easier for him because he didn’t have a trey, if you have a trey just take it out and after cable management is the only tricky thing but you can do it!
Either way great video, I really like the product it’s great for my needs! I didn’t use the microphone because I don’t care to have one but for music it’s all I needed.👍🏼

!!!!UPDATE!!!! Mine stopped working for whatever reason?! I’m going to try and reinstall it and see if that works. It was working perfectly fine before though, very strange.

Can't believe my car came with a disgusting ancient aftermarket headunit when they could have done this which is cheap and simple and good looking.
OEM > cheap after market forsure. At least you should be able to find a oem business CD unit for pretty cheap for sale or at junk yards!
Just want to let you guys know that it works on a 2000 stereo. My bmw is 2001 but when I got it it had a third party Stereo. So I put one from the junk yard and I found out recently that it’s a 2000 version.
At first it seemed to not work but that was because I did not have the cd changer cable all the way in so make sure you get it in there good.
Sounds very good better than an fm transmitter.
Was the cd switcher cable in the center back of the radio module? When I click CD it says there's no disc.

I just installed mine and it brings up 6-99 then drops back to cd as if it can’t hold signal. My phone is connected tho. Anybody know how to troubleshoot this?

Great Video! I have an E46, same Radio as yours, but I can't get my interface to properly communicate to the radio. Is there any chance you know a little bit about the wiring and could send me a photo of the replacement wiring harness/schematic on how it's wired up?

If it’s just to the regular AM/FM radio I’m not sure about it. For the bluetooth adapter everything is plug and play no additional wiring is needed

you might need to get an 3.5mm aux extension to run it all the way up there, not sure how audio quality will be though

Do you have to have the CD changer in the back for it to work or does it work with just the OEM radio? I don't have the CD changer in the trunk.
And also: I currently have an aftermarket Pioneer CD, but I want to reverse to the OEM looks. As far as I saw the original 16:9 navigation system has a different socket than the Business CD. Do I need an adapter or is it somehow plug and play, since I'm currently having a normal/after market CD player? I would like to use the Navi with a similar bluetooth device mostly for the looks, because I don't have the CD changer, where all the maps and stuff should be. Thanks in advance!

Do the calls work from the steering wheel?
From my experience no, you have to press the answer button on your phone first and it'll feed through the bluetooth. Besides that all other functions like volume and track skip still work on the steering wheel

Whenever I press Mode it says "no disc" or changes to the CD (if there's a cd in it)... I've tried both inputs at the back, with no positive results. Ideas?!

Same here man. I’ve got a 2004 BMW 325ci, and I can’t access that (CD-99) code. Whenever I click mode it says “No Disc”

@@pikachugaming204 from what I’ve seen, it’s related to the year in which the radio was manufactured. It has to be 2003 onwards. Mine’s 2001.
If you don't plug in the microphone is the calls function disabled? I only want music and still want calls to go through the car.
Call function will still work but I'm not sure if you'd be able to speak off the mic on your phone

What year is the BMW? 2003 and up have the aux port on business oem stereo. 2001-2002 don’t have the aux and need to have BT adapters mounted in trunk.
worangejuice Just replied to your other comment, this is a 2002 M3. This bluetooth adapter is meant to be added behind the headunit like shown in the video. I have this same adapter also installed on a 2003 3 series.

@@GenoFoster the problem i have is : I CANT SWITCH to aux mode . I press the mode button but there is only a normal FM radio or NO DISC . THERE IS NOT A THIRD option witch would allow me to connect it on Bluetooth. ALTHOUGH my phone is connected to Bluetooth but i just cant hear nothing on my radio because i cannot find that MODE OPTION. i read a lot and i am not the online one who possess a business cd radio but don’t have that THIRD MODE OPTION. Can u help me. Does my radio need to be coded? And how and where to code it. Thank you very much!

Its a great product, but I find the lag is too slow, instead i bought MPow Bluetooth 5.0 and didn't bother to remove the vent and stereo
Instead, on my Z4, i put my hand behind the vents and unplugged the connector. 5 mins work.

Hmm you should definitely check the wiring, it shouldn't be draining your battery at all since it uses the same connectors as your radio currently

Double check all your cable connections and make sure it’s in Bluetooth mode so your phone recognizes the car kit

@@GenoFoster I'm currently doing it all. Gonna reset the thing any sec. Check all cables and try again. Hope it works. My radio is a bit different I see now. It has a mode option instead of CD. But it shows cd-6-99

I just installed mine and it says cd 6-99 but keeps backing out to radio as if it can’t hold signal. Bluetooth works fine and all plugs are connected well. Anybody having similar issues ???

Update, I solved it. If you’re radio has “CD” instead of mode. It won’t work, unless you’re the guy who uploaded the video. pulled a new radio from the junkyard for $30
