  • My life owning a small bar in Thailand 4K
Today's video is a day in my life owning a small bar in Thailand, I'll show you from the moment i get out of bet to the moment we close the bar. some of the everyday chores and things that need to be done to own and run a small bar and Bistro in Jomtien Pattaya. Such as the rubbish, the alcohol orders the food shopping for the bar and the bistro and basically everything else. Bare in mind as a non Thai on a Retirement visa i'm not allowed ro work in the bar, and all my employees have to be Thai or have a working visa. Ying runs the bar under my direction and does a wonderful job doing it.
Hi Guys, if you want to get behind my Thailand adventure and support me please see the 2 links below.

Of course me being me, I went back and watched some of your first videos. And I can relate a lot with what you were going through. It’s good to see how you have turned yourself around! Opening and running a bar in Pattaya is sadly one of the worst business ideas ever. The competition is ridiculous and there is almost no profit margin on beer and stuff. If you want to run something in the tourism industry in Thailand, go somewhere else than Pattaya. The turnover rate of new bar owners is higher than anywhere in the world- People following their dream of owning a bar and dumb all their life savings in 1,5 years. You can't compete with a person who's just dumping money at their already losing business.

It’s a lot of work to own a bar. Lots of tenacity needed. I knew an American guy in Manila that owned four bars. He told me what it was like. He had to deal with all the open hands reaching out for their money. Corrupted cops etc. plus some of his girls would steal from him. So owning just one bar is not as bad but still. Plus all those late nights and drinking does put a toll on your health. Eventually. There are always pros and cons to everything.

Be great to see a Palmys vid in full swing one night with all the Aussie bar stuff including pool, music, drinking patrons, ringing the bell, meat pies with sauce, etc. Talking about meat pies I saw on another youtuber channel that the local Tinnies pies are best of the best, but you're probably across that already.

Alcohol best prices for all drinks with great discounts BiG C, would beat those booze warehouses on every thing even spirits and wine they really not the places to buy your beer. I ran a restaurant for over 12 years in Pattaya every morning I would purchase all my daily drinks fresh meat and vegetables needed from Big C, they had every thing under one roof saving money and time, returning to my buisness staff had to unload my vehicle and fill the restaurant fridges with booze and food. Be warned taking the rubbish out is classed as working some one will report you. This video sadly is evidence for the Thai Police and immigration that in there eyes your working with out a work permit. Myself I got arrested and Police fined me 10,000 baht for lifting a crate of milk off a pick up into my restaurant 20 plus years ago. My morning shopping trips where for my personal use if ever stopped and questioned by Police but they always kept an eye on me after I was caught working with no work permit. The dark side got its name due to having very few street lights of any type so on a evening was the DARK SIDE, of Pattaya. Interesting video reminds me of my life spent in Thailand ducking and diving there odd laws.

Definately so many guys do there arses, mainly depends on how stupid the ferang is and if the Thai girl can be trusted. Heaps of stories about this stuff. I know 2 blokes that have lost everything. But it's not as huge investment. When my bar is totally finished it would of cost about a million baht, $40k Australian. I hope.

Why pay for all the hassle and stress. Sit at any bar of your choice and go home. You don't own anything just pay for it. It's like paying to sit entrapped in your own funded burden trying to please the free and easy. Never heard of any foreigner writing home about his amazing successful bar business in Thailand. Squander your money on yourself. 0

I didn’t know you can’t touch anything regarded as paid work over there, I get it if it’s an actual job but not just helping, reminds me of Apartheid when I was over there just opposite in a weird way (I never understood that or why I copped race crap at school until someone explained that Mum being Lithuanian was a refo so I was too) but where you are I know it’s meant to keep Thai people in work which is good just ffs looking at some of the comments you’ve got to careful what you touch specially now it looks like you’re going to do well which I’m heaps glad to see, was a bit worried it might backfire but being a non drinker I don’t know what works specially over there... I’m thinking don’t get too big but do get big enough to employ some more Thai people like the cook you mentioned and a few more if all goes well... don’t like the sound of other owners getting peeved because you got it right but hey if you’ve got that local backup and I don’t mean heavies, just lots of locals happy to be working is great, you can see a fair few failed and abandoned attempts. Juliet used to work for a politician in Manila but when they got voted out she lost all of her work, the family are lucky they own a three storey with shopfront over there plus they have three relo’s here and the USA on big bucks that send money, wasn’t she an eye opener, so much bs that took a year to find out about (long story but I let em stay here, two out of five kids will have good lives here) Had to laugh when I saw the black Mustang and no I wouldn’t, we’ve both had some wicked machines over here and I’m told it’s just too hard keeping stuff like that secure there: probably won’t but I keep thinking to sail over for a look (still got an S1K and 1985 Harley but rarely ride anymore) my pension plus renting my house out (still in my kid’s name) is an easy $1200pw, still be over a year away though and no way could I fly, just flying to Maroochydore a few years ago took a handful of valium and I still had to curl up at a mate’s place the rest of the day. Looking good bloke, take care.

@@Ardoyne10 Timing and location makes a hell of a difference, so does the person who’s name thing’s go in (I’ve never been there but I do know half a dozen Aussies who’ve retired there as well as all over SE Asia, about half of them set up businesses, wound them up then sat aside making sure all was good then left them to run their course with locals doing it all and happy because they had good well paying work and all but one did well. It doesn’t cost much to set something like this up over there and by the looks it’s not going to take long to recoup the outlay so anything beyond that is a bonus... I’m old and lazy plus knocked about a bit so I’d have no problem not touching anything.
